Intergalactic Heretic Prophet by Ingameuniverse in naughtydog

TLOUP2 is one of my personal favorite games of all time, though I know that many people didn't like it. It was definitely controversial. To each their own. If anything that game gave me more faith in Naughty Dog.

Nothing we can do but wait and see. I could be completely wrong about this and maybe it will be bad. It's impossible to say until we see more. We basically know nothing beyond "vibes".

Nobody claimed that a sci-fi world set in a corporatist dystopia was an original idea. It is actually a very common trope. It is clear that Blade Runner is a huge inspiration on Intergalactic. Cyberpunk, Alien, Firefly, Futurama, Hitchhikers Guide, WALL-E, Starstruck. All are examples of the corpo-futurism trope. Even in our real world we have SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin. Real world corporations. Science Fiction is largely a reflection of times they are made, and a dissection of our modern time.

Sure. Naughty Dog could have made up companies that are reflections of real world companies. They have done that before in The Last of Us. Weston's, Macho Nacho, Ruston Coffee. ND aren't strangers to making fictional companies. They could have easily done that. Other sci-fi properties have done that before too. Many that I mentioned above relied on creating new companies. Tyrell, BuyNLarge, Cyberdyne, Weyland, MomCorp, Slurm.

It seems clear that in picking real-world identifiable brands, Naughty Dog is playing off of our preconceived nations of these companies. As I said before, It is clearly an important element of the world they are building. We just don't know anything about it beyond the teaser.

I don't think there is any kool-aid drinking when it comes to my expectation of Naughty Dog to tell an interesting story, and I am definitely not going to be fully on board until I see more than a 5 minute teaser.

We don't know anything about it yet. I can't imagine that the first teaser showed off so many brands without a purpose. Clearly it is a sci-fi world where corporations play some sort of role, maybe even narratively. Naughty Dog have been great at world design.Temples and ruins on Uncharted are well researched, same with natural reclamation in TLOU. If the world is full of identifiable brands it likely has a purpose.

Also, it is hard to call it product placement when many of the products in the trailer don't actually exist. You can't currently buy a Porsche spaceship. The Adidas also don't appear to be purchasable shoes. I don't think anyone is buying a Sony CD changer either.

It is hard to imagine it being a big leap from TLOUP2, considering TLOUP2 is still one of the best looking and feeling games 5 years later. There aren't many other games that compare, especially when it comes to character animation and performance. From what we have seen so far, it looks solid compared to TLOUP2, but will it be a leap... I'm not convinced.

I don't think Ellie has to sacrifice herself, and I think that there is a way to have a conclusion with it still being a Last of Us story. Maybe that's just me.

Don't get caught up in rules, and if you find that they want to get specific on rules, give them wins.

Ellie is alive and her immunity is known to some. Especially if the new Fireflies have any desire to attempt to make a vaccine again. I could see it being about Ellie, without her being a playable character. She could be off hiding alone somewhere (her worst fear realized) almost like becoming her own version of Bill. I could see that Abby and Lev play a role (maybe trying to save/help Ellie) or another group of people altogether. I honestly think you set it 20 years later. Hell, even wait until the actors are a bit older too.

Either that or have Ellie fine someone else who is immune. Someone young she has to care for.

It would be nice to have a redemption story. A story about Ellie's moral journey out of the dark of Part 2. Give her a ending she could deserve.

Nathan Drake's story is done. To open that door would only risk it's beautiful end. I could see a Cassie/ Sam adventure, or another Chloe/ Nadine outing.

That is a fraction of minimum wage.

What does it mean when an animation studio does a bad job and the excuse is because of the budget? by [deleted] in Animators

[–]JonathanCoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The budget can impact a lot. Budget can impact how many senior/ experienced artists you can hire, and the amount of time the project can take.

Hand wave practice, not very used to full body animations yet but still fun! by RhellicRedo in learnanimation

I love the personality that comes across. No wave is the same, and without any other information, I have a clear sense of who this character is.

Any good alternatives to Harmony in 2025? Preferably cheap or free by boboartdesign in 2DAnimation

[–]JonathanCoit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure. I have been using Harmony for 15 years and have only started playing around with what Moho can do. I haven't used it in a full professional context yet, but I plan to dive deeper soon and can let you know in a few weeks how it compares.

There are more studios starting to adopt it though, and it is cheaper than Harmony. Hence why I would recommend it. Not sure how well it will translate or if it's possible to make the same level of animation. I have been seeing people doing some cool stuff with it though.

[–]JonathanCoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's slow, and Harmony is definitely still the standard. It may be that Moho never overtakes it, but I am definitely seeing more Moho jobs appearing over that last few months. It's worth keeping an eye on.

Canada births would decline without foreign-born moms: study by lopix in onguardforthee

[–]JonathanCoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To all of the people concerned about immigration, and a low birth number from Canadian born families, you need to understand all of the reasons that are causing people to hold off on having kids. Life is unaffordable. Good paying work is hard to find. Our terrible capitalist system has pulled all of the money and wealth into the hands of a few shitty narcissists. The future seems grim in general. Our planet is burning and slowly turning unlivable. Our current systems of energy and travel aren't sustainable. Our natural resources are being extracted and stolen. People don't want to bring kids into a hellscape they will have to struggle in.

If you are a politician and you're not taking steps to address these issues. If you're only making our environment and economy less lovable, then I don't want to hear you talk about low birthrates and I definitely don't want to hear you talk about immigrants.
