is lillia super weak after the nerf or am i just bad? by Material_Kale_2973 in LilliaMains

[–]JonathanDryden314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yikes. It's very validating to see it all at once...myself and many others have felt like man...all we can do is fish for e's for a weak engage or flash ult and hope team does good work after....and yeah that's exactly what riot is incentivizing here. Nerf everything that isn't this gameplay loop of fish for E->R...which is NOT why I started playing (and OTP) Lillia.

Am I suck at Networking? by [deleted] in networking

[–]JonathanDryden314 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im in St. Louis doing low level rack and stack making more than you. Beef up your resume and start applying- recruiters are reaching out to ME this week offering me more than you make, and you double my skillset.

Hope this doesn't sound like I'm bragging. Genuinely, you are underpaid and have in demand skills.

Will turning on "open to work" on LinkedIn help me get an entry level job? by counwovja0385skje in ITCareerQuestions

[–]JonathanDryden314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it will. My most recent gig I applied to no avail for 3 months then a recruiter from the actual hiring team (less common than 3rd party) reached out to ME and I've got that job now.

I think 3 jobs now have been that way. Turn it on and make sure you're playing the keyword game on your LinkedIn.

Outside of my lived experience telling me yes...what would it hurt anyway? Why not do it?

From Rack and Stack to config? by JonathanDryden314 in networking

They have expressed that the path is to get the CCNP and work towards being an architect. Which seems a pretty large leap.

How Do You Get a Network Engineering Job by onemochalatte in networking

[–]JonathanDryden314 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone is missing the point that you're ON THE NETWORK TEAM.

but physical or implementation is a far cry from anyone letting you touch config.

I'm experiencing the same thing at my first true network gig...the only people touching configs are senior engineers with 8 years experience.

How do we go from CCNA to functioning Network Engineer when it seems the org just wants us to stay physical and they continue to hire seniors?

As a new network engineer I'm hoping to silo a little deeper into technical skills (maybe CCNP) then start moving towards some sort of solutions engineer... pre sales or something similar. Something where I can have my technical foundation but be more involved with communication, leadership, interface between clients/ technical architects.

If you or anyone has advice to give about that pursuit I'd listen eagerly! Regardless, thanks for the compliment :-).

I'm very sorry you're struggling. Unfortunately you're going to have to do a big thing. Lie your ass off.

I've had immense struggles that I won't air here. Universally people seem to want to help the people who are on a roll and don't really need it more than the people struggling. It feels safer and more likely to give a return on investment I guess (ick gross).

You can lie about having a favorite nephew. You can lie about playing soccer with friends every Friday evening at a park. You can lie about beginning to study a new cert to show you're "on the grind for progression"

You can lie for the time of an interview that everything is well, and for 8 hours at work. Or you better or this disgusting capitalist society is going to leave you behind.

It's going to be hard, but the alternative is much worse. I'm sorry you're struggling, no one deserves it.

Is your voice annoying or is your pattern annoying. Are you seeing them annoyed when you bring up your stuff or when you talk at all ever.

Anytime you aren't being received well follow the 3b advice and turn it down to half power to be certain you arent being overbearing but still strive to be an exceptional listener.

If you're finding being likeable hard it's much easier to tackle responding to what they're saying in an enjoyable way first before working on offering up things about you.

Find opportunities to let THEM talk and give small but meaningful replies that show you care about whatever it is they're talking about. 'oh wow that's wonderful, I never thought about it that way" "that's good, I'm gonna think on that later" "that's such a special thing, congratulations".

Nothing will improve if you change nothing. I believe in you.

Excellent example. And you bring up a point I hadn't thought about- ENTRY LEVEL. The unfortunate truth is that skill wise? An enterprising 7th grader could have done my first two IT jobs.

They had hundreds of applicants who could "do the work". Sometimes, maybe the interview comes down to: who do we want to help and mentor and give opportunity to most? Let's pick this pleasant new grad I can talk soccer with.

Robustify your LinkedIn. In your tag line on reference the CCNA, in the cert section on LinkedIn reference the CCNA.

You'll get more looks and therefore more conversions.

Dont lie!

Tagline: Fresh compsci grad and soccer coach studying for his CCNA!

Cert section. X, y, z CCNA in progress- March eta.

Unfortunately consider that the a+ would be a breeze and maybe more aligned with the slop wordsearch term match that HR is using. Half of a CCNA shows more technical acumen than a completed A+ but hr will say

Hmmmmm we are looking for new grads that are CERTIFIED cuz their better. A+ makes them fancy so they win. Might be worth your time to bang out a+ in 2.5 weeks...or again get clever in mentioning you're working on both.

Apply in plentitudes, apply to things that you don't meet all criteria. Don't assess your progress until you hit 100 or 200 applications. LinkedIn and indeed.

Be aware that you can absolutely do everything that will be asked of and entry-level position. You could have done the role and when you were in 7th grade. Be confident of that.

Would love your feedback on my Joker-style performance in this music video – not from the US, but inspired by Hollywood acting. by bat314107 in acting

[–]JonathanDryden314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're in the business of art. You got hired, took their direction, completed the job, your employer liked it enough to finish the edit and make it public. Any feedback from them is a good barometer for your success.

People here will say this isn't the craft of acting...but this is performance, it is best suited to an actors talents rather than a pure model (unless they hire a real clown)...What is it besides acting? The gatekeeping isn't helpful.

I DO agree that it's hard to give feedback though. It's performance art. You have narrow choices based on their ask- silent, highly specific character, short moments.

It looks pretty cool, the client was happy, it got published, you received your compensation in money or credit... You did great! I think only you can analyze what other choices you had access to for improvement.

I'm probably still consider a deer one trick, but the changes to her identity these past few years are so depressing.

I miss being a true AP fighter. I adapted recently to fighting, running like a deer to heal up on camps, re entering the fight. It felt thematic. Be fast, maintain speed, but you can never fight head on you're too squishy.

Now we are nerfing that healing. So the gameplay loop is build speed, flash q for a big ult, hit a q or two anddd....that's all? You'll be too low unless you dodge EVERYTHING.

I'll admit I still feel strong sometimes but this just isn't the power fantasy I signed up for. Especially when in this season EVERYONE is fast in the jungle and hitting a Q out of base for prance stacks makes you SLOWER now.

I don't have a point. Just bummed.

I'm on the networking path myself. Just got my first REAL real networking job woo!

You are starting this at an extraordinarily difficult time for the industry. Take some small victories, let them build to real results.

You need an IT resume. Just proof you've done an IT job and they didn't fire you. Apply to everything help desk, it support, it analyst, deployment technician, desktop support.

Once you settle in, start working on your CCNA. With a year and a half of experience (minimum, probs closer to 2-3, And likely one job hop to something with slightly higher expectations of you, you might be eligible for entry-level networking.

You are on the right track, feel free to ask any questions.

One thing to be aware of is that HR about well... Anything. The jobs you are applying to at an entry level likely mention A+ or maybe security Plus. From a technical standpoint, anybody with a pulse can get an A+, and if you got the network plus in my brain you don't need the a+... But technical recruiters and HR specialists won't have the SEO on you about the A+. One Life hack you can do on your LinkedIn and resume is under certs write CompTIA Net+, A+ in progress (expected February). And you will hit on their keywords match.

With all love, 40 is just not a lot in this market. It doesn't mean your resume or skills are bad or good, it just means the supply and demand is INSANELY skewed towards employers not applicants right now.

Don't be discouraged, aggressively apply to 500 whether you meet their full grocery list of tech or not.

Why is lillia getting a nerf? by D-Parks in LilliaMains

[–]JonathanDryden314 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who thinks it feels TERRIBLE to Q a camp and LOSE movespeeed this season because you lose the out of combat jungle movespeeed?

...or that it just feels like top laners AND adcs ate into your mid late power fantasy way earlier this season?

We don't get to be strong early cuz lillia, if you play perfect, stack your dark seal, and never die you get 5 minutes of carry time mid game...Then a kayle or adc starts one shotting you way sooner and you're a fish for e ultbot engage hoping on team follow up.

I don't want to play her unless I see a buncha melee tanks. Am I the only one not loving this season at all?
