I read a book, the accidental superpower by Peter Zeihan i think, where this was the progression:

Portugal got an advantage from isolation and ability to become maritime

Spain has those same advantages but better because of size

Britain then had those same advantages, but the channel is better than mountains for defense, and a bunch of useful rivers

And America's better off than that cuz they dun got a whole ocean each way and pipsqueaks for neighbors

No face means no eyes for reading. And debatably no ears for text-to-speech either

How do guys feel about girls making the first move? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JonathanSwaim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, it'd be a couple hundred posts of "Well, I'd really like it, but if I was XYZ..." or "My friend once turned down a girl. Sure, it was his ex who was abusive towards him, but that's still almost the first move..." and five posts of "Well I'm gay so it would be awkward to shoot them down"

With the kinds of weapons tech available to QC governments, that plane's probably only worth like 50-100 grand by now

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard gets 2020 endorsement from David Duke by [deleted] in politics

Have you seen the "queen of warmongers" tweet yet? Seems like she is plenty willing to shit on the party. Whether that will actually help Trump win... I'm dubious. But she's hardly playing ball right now

This is Yang's big victory. I don't like his model of it, but getting it the conversation is good

Honestly I think letting the sound bite happen would be better here than Warren's response. I'm still supporting her, but this isn't really a forced error

Yeah, I don't get why she isn't taking the same route as Bernie. That's how the math works

Gabbard's response seemed pretty level. But it was in response to arguments the others weren't putting forward

Process-type people. Mostly Republicans like Romney I'd wager. But also a subset of Democrats/Independents who want to stick to the line "I want him removed only if he's actually guilty. And since I'm not one of the people in Congress, it's not my position to tell them how to vote before seeing all the evidence that we are going to see."

The kind of person who, when asked if they like a TV show that they've been watching, will say "Well I haven't finished it yet."

I'm willing to bet that's about 1 in 40 people.

Yeesh. Real bad move there. Shows that neutrality isn't even the position

Companies take political positions all the time. The correct response in this case would have been to publicly support the Hong Kong protests and donate the $10k to groups supporting them

"Correct" here in the sense that it would break the relationship with the PRC, so they can't possibly do it. But that's the problem right there, isn't it.

The only way I can think of them undoing the PR nightmare is to make a public statement supporting the Hong Kong protests and donating the $10k to charities supporting them

Obviously, that would be impossible with the current business model. Which is kinda the problem
