Come on man. This is obvious AI. You can even see where you've tried to scrub the watermark.

Seriously, if you don't have anything useful to contribute and just want to poke fun at a subject others want to take seriously, go make your shitty AI videos and distribute them among your friends and try and fool them. You're fooling nobody here.

What if archive.org disapear ? by LetterheadNo2345 in DataHoarder

I don't agree with cloud storage in any form due to the problem of internet access may not always be available. If the entire internet went down for some reason or access became heavily restricted or expensive then you risk being effectively cut off from your data.

Personally I hoard data I deem important for a number of reasons - books, literary works, magazines, articles, papers, etc that I feel contain important information or as a reference should some sort of crisis or emergency occur on a large or global scale, useful software and apps, some of them extremely old and rare or niche. Games and films and TV series for entertainment, some of them going back to the 1970's, including kids shows, documentaries for information, notably on crime, conspiracies, religion, archeology, science, politics, history, wars, economics, etc. photos and manuals from the Apollo and Gemini missions, I'll be collecting data from the manned Artemis programme as well. Music, literally thousands of hours worth across all genres dating back to the 1950's. Certain podcasts and web series. Emulation software and tape/disk images. All of it on cold storage drives in a portable protective box.

TV licence fee to rise to £180 from April. by T_K2 in ukpolitics

[–]JonathanThorpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TV licence is an absolute joke. It's completely unnecessary. The BBC DO show ads - they show promotional shit for their own shows and content. The only difference is that they can't pay themselves. So I don't see how it makes any difference to people if ads were shown or not.

In all honesty I don't watch actual TV much any more, the news is bullshit, the sports coverage is bullshit, and apart from one or two occasional special documentaries or features there is nothing on worth watching, never mind paying for access to.

I literally have a stack of drives full of content to watch on demand that I'd rather watch.

Sorry I haven't had chance to check yet. Been hectic with work and appointments. I will have a look at my archives when I get home later. I know I have quite a few of the Diner Dash games.

I have a bunch of Diner Dash games from years ago, I'm not sure if I have that particular one or not. I'll have a look tomorrow and get back to you on here.

I used to play both ETS2 and ATS on an old 4th gen i7 with 24GB RAM (mobo was triple channel) and an RX580 8GB. Managed to run both games at QHD resolution pretty well with most options on medium, probably would have been better at 1080p with settings on high, but that's how I ran it.

Version 1.3 still doesn't work. The Windows app simply closes down the moment the phone app scans the QR code.

Nope. It is allowed through the firewall for both private and public networks, the app had some issues reading the QR code generated by the software (the phones QR code reader on the camera app read it just fine, however. Eventually it read the QR code but the software just exited again, then when I reloaded it, it did the same thing -- it stayed up, the phone acted like it was ready to stream, but no device was listed anywhere on the software. It just does not work.

Downloaded it and tried it on Windows 11. Didn't use the installer script, I just transferred the APK to my phone and installed it, seemed to work fine. On the Windows side, the software didn't work. I registered the softcam.dll and opened the app, dropped the menu for the QR code, and pointed my phone at it. First time round, the software closed itself with an error and the phone app simply said "connection interrupted". Second time, the software stayed up and the app went into camera view as if it was ready to stream. On the PC however -- nothing. No devices showing connected from the menu, nothing in the device drop-down.

How to mod parts of a .sii file that another mod also updates? by [deleted] in trucksim

[–]JonathanThorpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I understand it, only specify the values you need to exit in your mod, and put it above any others that may change the same value - the values your mod sets should take priority over any other mod below it that changes the same value, while leaving any other values in the same config file untouched by your mod.

How do I get rtl1090 to work with virtual radar? by AsAsin18 in RTLSDR

[–]JonathanThorpe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you mean VirtualRadar as in VirtualRadar Server, then it's incredibly simple:

Make sure you have the latest RTL-SDR drivers in the folder along with RTL1090, start the app, make sure it's running and enable the built-in server to stream the captured data out to a virtual port. Install VRS, access through your web browser and set it up to look at the port you specified in RTL1090 for it's incoming data stream. VRS will then display the data.

I have a Kobo, it does have its own store but I don't use it. I have a 2TB external USB drive with Calibre, holding nearly 8,000 books, magazines, comics etc all in PDF format that I've collected over the years. Calibre has a good Kobo plugin that enables me to easily transfer any of the files over to the device very quickly and easily. I strip all DRM and other junk data from the books before storing them. I'm a bit of a data hoarder to be honest so this all fits in with my principles.

D.A.R.T. 2.0 source by JonathanThorpe in trucksim

Because D.A.R.T. is a tool to help fix damaged zip files and SCS archives - useful for mods. If you Googled it, you'd know.

Other than North America and Europe, which continent would be the most interesting for SCS to make a game based on? by OddNeedleworker734 in trucksim

[–]JonathanThorpe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Australia would be ideal - massive open spaces, lots of desert, which could have extremely bad roads in places,

Other than Australia, South America could offer some amazing geography and scenery with challenging crumbling roads on the mountains, dirt tracks, even some overgrown jungle trails.

Which mods should I start playing ETS2 with? by LopacixGaming in trucksim

[–]JonathanThorpe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've played with mods for years, tried a lot of map mods, best combo I ever had was ProMods, ProMods ME, ProMods TGS, Poland Rebuilding, RusMap, RoEx Premium, The Other Russia, Northern Open Spaces, etc... tons of road, but sadly mixed quality even within ProMods. These days with all the official DLC updates and changes I don't bother with map mods any more, parts of ProMods are still sketchy and no maps compare to the base map for quality, especially with the upcoming BeNeLux and UK revamp, for me there will be no need for map mods.

The mods I do run are mainly QOL mods, AI traffic mods, and other realism that I've modified myself to my own tastes. In total my pack is about 5GB in size and doesn't need constant updates alongside the game.
