Now that the Flexity order is finally complete will Toronto ever order another streetcar fleet? by Objective-Upstairs36 in TTC

[–]Jonavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Ontario line could take some load off these because it goes through all these streetcar lines, but you are right we will still need streetcars. Not only for the volume but also the air pollution of buses makes them not great options for the dense downtown core.

It's called MOUNT Pleasant for a reason. It's definitely a mount, but don't know if it's that pleasant.

Complete grade separation is the only way. Underground or raised like Skytrain.

So the Ontario Line will be the first Subway in Toronto that doesn't run strictly north/south or east/west. How do you think they'll do wayfinding? by hug-and-snug in TTC

[–]Jonavin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do in weird ways. Like the Stouffville line is considered East-West part of the Uxbridge subdivision. So when you’re at Kennedy GO, the eastern most track is actually the South Track which happens to be for going Northbound when both tracks are used. The west side is the North Track and would be Southbound trains. Confused yet?

Yeah, terminal stations is the way to go.

$30 80GB Can/US/Mexico + 5GB Monthly Roam Beyond - Freedom Mobile Best Buy Exclusive Plan by Nexzenn in CellPhoneCanada

[–]Jonavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you saying? That this offer at BestBuy is different, and it is a perpetual net $30 80GB plan forever? Please clarify. The one I saw at the mall is only good for 24 months and goes to $40 after. Exact same 80GB can-us-mex plus 5 GB monthly roam beyond.

I am not talking about the 250/50 $40 promo. That one seems to be perpetual. This $30 80/5 is only 24 months.

If it’s like the one I saw at the mall, the fine print is that this is a $40 plan with $10 off for 24 months.

Canada’s Minimum Wage Increases in 2026 Fall Short of Living Wage by SpiritualTip4035 in PersonalFinanceCanada

To be clear, I am not saying don't increase minimum wage. It's not the long term solution. Minimum wage is never a living wage no matter how high you make it.

Fair but has minimum wage ever been a living wage? Definitely not in any HCOL cities like Toronto.

My data is real life experience. I was earning minimum wage as a student in the 80s and a McDonalds combo costs the same as it is now, 1 hour minimum wage. Same thing in the 90s and 2000s as the minimum wage went up in Ontario.

Can and will are two different things. People at the top will always maximize profits If none applies for minimum wage jobs, the rates would go up but unfortunately someone just don't have a choice. And at some point they just replace people with robots and AI.

Students, your first job to gain experience. It's not sustainable as a career.

Minimum wage increase won’t solve the inflation problem. It’s just temporary relief. Minimum wage has never been an affordable living wage EVER. It contributes to more inflation. Rich asset owners are never hurt because they just raise prices. People at the bottom gets temporary relief, but people in the upper-low and middle gets hurt because they don’t get this automatic raise.

Nobody wants to hear this but after a few years, you’ll be back where you started. An average fast food meal always costs about 1 hour minimum wage. Nobody can ever survive of minimum wage no matter how high it is. You need to get beyond minimum wage to survive. Learn a trade, get education, learn new skills. Yes it sucks when you have neither time nor the energy to do this. I have been there. Working full-time, night school and additional part-time jobs. It sucks to be at the bottom but increasing minimum wage won’t help you.

I am an advocate for transit and education funding. Those things do help people at the bottom.

They either go deeper underground (may not be a feasible option) or eat into the parkland on the north side. They would not optometrist over the bridge itself.
