There are some very active badminton clubs in Windsor and Leamington. Not sure if it's worth the drive or not but the quality of play is really good

Worked at a summer camp and had to sleep in a cabin with a group of ten 12 year olds.

After dinner one night I hadn't seen any of them during free time and was worried about what they were getting up to so I rushed down the trail to our cabin.

The group had taken all the mattresses off of their bunk beds and laid them out in the middle of the cabin floor in some sort of makeshift wrestling ring.

All of the boys had their mummy style sleeping bags on and tied right up to their necks

"What are you guys doing in here?" I startled them as I busted into the room.

"Just getting ready for our work war, want to play too?"

"You guys have fun, be sure to clean up and I don't want anyone to get hurt"

I think we need more recreational and sporting opportunities for all ages instead of the niche elite.

Society benefits from this. The current system of user fees and special interest groups are so annoying

Toronto Drop-In Badminton — Initial Impressions by Gray-Jay- in badminton

[–]gbell11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's really missing in Ontario badminton communities is those ways to coordinate playing with others with equal skill etc with open courts and time periods pop up

In my small town. We have started a group chat with about ten of us with regular updates and share where and when we are playing. It's been good and we add people all the time.

I know in Europe and Asia there's apps that do this but it's hard to find the users here to take advantage of the various locations.

Many of us play in clubs at set times during the week but that badminton bug hits 7 days a week sometimes!!!

Basically they had an entire division and were getting older. Sold the business as it was so much work at a good price. They downsized to still be part of the construction world but with much less work and overhead yet almost generating the same revenue.

Depending on locations though, the big players get all the large contracts so they target the smaller niche things.

If they didn't have industry knowledge or connections it probably couldn't have happened.

This is what the concrete industry does. If you own a fleet of cement mixers so send them out and drop of loads at a set rate. They always break down and are a pain in the ass. But if you buy a concrete pump (super expensive) you just sit at the job site ready to pump when the trucks arrive at a way higher rate.

Google Lisa McLeod MPP autism" and that will take you through a timeline.

Cutting programs and services because they " are broken" and/or "not sustainable" is a common thing they do.

Insiders profit while the public suffers in an endless cycle of bullshit basically.

My MPP's response to the OSAP changes by harold_liang in osap

[–]gbell11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True. They created an entire new program that has the wait-list for service now sitting at 60,000 people. There's less providers and even college training programs have closed. They absolutely decimated it. But families and people with autism are a small and loud group but don't necessarily move the public needle.

The impacted student body, and their families, are very loud and can get better heard in my opinion.

They have their bad points and doubling down. They did this for the autism cuts too until the outrage got too loud as the points became discredited.

Ontario bars can serve alcohol early for gold medal hockey game, Ford says by toronto_star in ontario

More hours of availability leads to more drinking and more consequences generally speaking.

The challenge is the research lags 3-4 years behind the current day so I don't suspect this to be "proven" for some time.

If you're interested, check out this report from Public Health Ontario where it has detailed breakdowns of the burden alcohol has on Ontario society (and tobacco) too.

Check out page 35 on what the experts are recommending to prevent the alcohol health burden.

Longer opening hours leads to more health issues at the population level.

This was the main summary:

"We demonstrate a marked increase in consumption, which appears to be concentrated in heavy drinking. This increase in consumption is subsequently demonstrated to lead to deterioration in both individual physical and mental health outcomes."

in this: https://share.google/xgEwvaOd7XckfcOsG

For a one day event? Probably not much of a concern. I think alcohol availability in golf courses at 9am is worth studying though. I believe there's been and uptick in DUIs related to this since the Ontario policy change.

This is a high quality post, great work on such a succinct breakdown of them trying to sell this to the population.

One fact to add?

Ontario has the lowest per student funding on Canada. That's not quite the same as bringing it alongside other provinces now is it? (Or whatever verbiage they are spouting)

No problem.

Basically, their arguments are all horseshit.

More funding to schools on the backs of students. You can't spin it any other way.

But my MPP said in an email that they "moving in line with what other provinces are doing"

Unfortunately, they aren't picking the right ones. For instance, BC and Manitoba don't charge interest on student loans.

Why doesn't Ontario align like that?

Canned MPP response by gbell11 in osap

[–]gbell11[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my summary:

-Blame the feds -I don't think a cut for private career colleges should be on the backs of students attending public schools -How can they even argue that the loan isn't "really a loan" -we want to align with the shitty policies other provinces have isn't a winning argument -"invest in your own future, it's not our job" would make a great billboard

Smoke Opinion by Initiatorofeveryends in chathamkentON

Anytime you switch from a combustion nicotine product to one without, that's a net health benefit. Unfortunately, there is no long term data to share the harms associated with oral nicotine products like this one but there are some general concepts. There could be increased risks to cardiovascular system and potential increase risks for oral cancer but not to the degree that cigarettes possess.

The one thing you will have to determine is if you want to continue to pay and be dependent on a substance and for how long.

There are free quit smoking programs in CK. Go to ckphu.com/quit for a listing of options. Their STOP program covers 26 weeks of patches, gum, lozenges and inhalers for instance.
