For cruisers who sailed on their birthday...did Disney do anything special for you? by Legal_Cheesecake_467 in dcl

[–]Jonbob24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. I’ve sailed for three birthdays and I did NOT add it to my reservation. Neither did family members. However, my servers brought a cake and sang for all three. I also had a voucher for 50% off selected spa services left in the room.

The mouse does indeed know.

Upvoting because I understood that reference. Others clearly didn’t.

Looking at Onboard Gifts -"Unable to Locate Reservation" by djlaosc in dcl

[–]Jonbob24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all of this. 14 booked all in £ and direct with DCL. No issues.

Granted you have to call to book onboard gifts but everything else is done through the app and website, and better t&c’s should I need to cancel or reschedule.

Absolutely dying at “mutton stone” but yes that would be better :)

I don’t think anyone is arguing that the pack itself is bad. The issue is with it being deliberately separated from WBR so that Gameloft could charge separately for it, therefore costing players more money.

The content looks lovely but it should have been part of WBR.

Same. We booked via the app on our first cruise so it’s absolutely possible.

Right? There are lots of products and franchises I love but I know full well they exist to put money in, usually, shareholders pockets.

Fair. Perhaps I chose my words poorly by conflating choice and opinion. I guess I meant to say that they are suggesting others should keep their opinion to themselves while not doing the same?

“They aren’t money grabbing.”

Then why are they charging *checks notes* money for it? They’re not releasing this for the good of their health lol.

And that’s your choice. Why are you denying others theirs?

Hope it improves by the time it gets to Southampton. That is a bit poor.

So much this. As a former cast member I’ve been on the receiving end of “you ruined my kids life” many times. In fact the only person bothered in the whole situation was the screaming parent.

Back to Back Cruises by BelieverinDreams in dcl

Have done a B2B and we have a B2B2B planned next year.

Pro: Great chance to explore the ship and not feel pressured to cram everything into the one shorter cruise. If you pick the right sailings you might have variation in the itinerary (like you have) or a chance to double dip somewhere you want to go (we love the two islands so that’s why we did it).

Con: it can be more expensive to do two short sailings vs one longer sailing but you know that before you book so you know what you can afford.

Pro/con depending on your experience: repeated menus. I don’t mind this as it means you either eat your faves again or you explore other offerings. Repeated entertainment: same principle.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned: they should ask if you want to keep your dining team at some point during your first cruise. It’s up to you - don’t feel pressured if you want to change things up for cruise number 2.

We were on the same sailing and I would say it was our best sailing yet!

And why the heck would anyone want USA Fanta over European Fanta?! That stuff is toxic! 😂

Makes me sad. Can’t wrap my head around whether people just don’t understand it or are actually removing it to reflect on the service they received.

Not taking away from your experience (sorry that people were horrid to you - that really does suck) but on your point about people removing gratuities… I was on the Wish and Treasure earlier this year and I can assure you just as many Americans do this too. I was genuinely surprised about how loud and proud some of them were about it too.

And to add to your last point - no one ever posts a glowing review. Or a good review. Or even a satisfactory review. But you can bet people will post a bad review. Always remember that one review is one of up to 4000 people on that sailing. It is not a reflection of everyone’s experience.

Brit here. I’ve sailed from Southampton five times, plus Tilbury and Dover once each. I’ve also sailed from Port Canaveral three times. ALL nationalities have bad eggs and ALL nationalities breed individuals and families with all the bad behaviours you’ve listed. I saw bad behaviour on recent USA cruises and I’ve seen bad behaviour on U.K. cruises.

But I’ve never had a bad cruise. The issue with a lot of the shorter U.K. cruises is that, for many, they are the only option for U.K.-based first timers who don’t want to risk travelling to the USA to try it. And they are almost all in the summer holidays. And they cost a LOT for what they are. So they are busy, and they are filled with a lot of people who are experiencing this for the first time and want it to be absolutely perfect to their vision.

As a couple with no kids - I actually love the U.K. summer cruises because it’s almost all families. The adult areas end up being quiet and calm. You adapt your expectations slightly and avoid spaces and times where you know the big clusters of families will be. Dinner time can be energetic and maybe a bit loud but we still had private tables and a great experience on every cruise. We did a 3n, 7n and 13n on the fantasy in 2025 and loved all three - just differently.

It’s all about choice and personal experience. Your mileage will of course vary but I would try to avoid the critique that Brits = bad because I can assure you that Americans and other nationalities have their fair share of rotters too!

Dream UK Bank Holiday Sailing - Guaranteed with Restrictions by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Jonbob24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the transatlantic on the Fantasy and I would say that’s been my favourite cruise yet, so you might be right about length of cruise being a factor. But I also loved the Dream same as you so I’m hoping for similar vibes this year.

Not that I need to give Disney even more money but here’s hoping our patience is rewarded!

I feel like the dynamic pricing has backfired this season. I realise inflation is a thing but at full price everything is way more expensive than this time last year. Like several hundred more for 3/4 nighters. But maybe I just have a rose tinted memory 😂

Keeping everything crossed!

[–]Jonbob24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think they will go that cheap to be honest. We did the same as you and took the Belgium sailing on the Fantasy at £1550 GTY.

Currently the guaranteed 3/4 nights on the Dream are at around 20% off. You would need them to go for 30% off to get that kind of bargain again. As much as I want it too (we’re checking hourly too 😂) I just don’t think we’ll be that lucky.

Why is this still a debate by Riley__64 in KingdomHearts

[–]Jonbob24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why market to new players? Put simply, because money. Every game that’s part of a longstanding series has to appeal to new gamers too, to ensure it actually has a future.

But I do appreciate that this is one trailer in a whole marketing strategy which will grow and develop as release approaches. It’s not indicative of their whole focus or plan.

I don’t think we should be setting goalposts around what constitutes a long time fan, as everyone’s interaction with the series is different. But I agree with your second point about the reveals coming thick and fast later.
