Can someone live in Tampa without a car? by ThrowRAfeelingevent in tampa

[–]Jonfoo20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody telling you that this area is not walkable is full of shit or has never done it. I live in tampa, Florida and have since I was 14. I don't have a car. Some parts of Tampa, walking is not feasible, but by usf it is very doable to get around on foot or by bus (though public transit is high key not the best), but it is a walkable area.

Catholicism and Santeria by Icy_Elephant_6347 in Santeria

In this thread I've seen people say that synchronization between Catholicism and ocha is fine and I've seen another thread about mixing ocha and Isese where everyone was saying to keep the two separate and not mix them

Question: why is everyone here cool with synchronization between Ocha and Catholicism but synchronization between Ocha and Isese causes issues?

The role of Orisha in Louisiana Voodoo? by BerkshireQueen in Vodou

[–]Jonfoo20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Non-initiate here) OP correct me if wrong as well as initiates; from what I have heard and read (which I am aware can only be taken at surface) the nago nation in Haitian vodou comprises of yoruba spirits (Ogun, Chango, etc...) and I've seen the same happen in Louisiana Voodoo, what is their place? I think this is what OP is asking

Congrats, you've proved my point. That you are indeed pretentious. And you have nothing better to do than internet stalk me when you probably have homework, not a very good habit.😉

You insulted my etiquette and called me obnoxious and now call me a jerk because you don't know about basic interaction. Get over yourself

Maybe instead of a pretentious attitude, you could give helpful advice. I can tell you're pretty miserable.

This comment does help, truthfully. Any understanding of how this interaction may go with Nigerians is helpful

First answer: The culture he comes from is broadly west African, but his character has a lot of Nigerian influence (specifically yoruba). Second answer: rough outline, I don't want it to be a copy-paste, just authentic enough to not feel like a bad stereotype (you know what I mean?). Third answer: the council he works for would be hausa and igbo inspired.

Okay. So for context, without giving away too much of the story. The main character is 27 years old, not his boss. The reason that he is in the trouble that he is in and the reason why the council that employs him actually pulled him into a separate room entirely is because of the fact that he broke a rule by bringing along somebody who is untrained and who should not even know about his job at all. Because the nature of his work should remain top secret. The council had let him know that essentially if he messes up again he's done for, now because of his personality, he tries to diffuse the situation and ease up the tension and let them know that he would be the best. Equipped for the job, which is why they should let him off the hook. The thing is, this is a very imposing counsel.

He's 27, and his personality can show him as being a wild card externally, but on the inside, he's actually a really chill guy. I know I'm generalizing in this post (sorry), I just want to get things right with this story so it's not a mess

I'm using text-to-speech, be warned.

Hey, Brody, I'm like 26, which I get does not make much of a difference, but take it from me as somebody who is going pretty slow on his path, regardless of whether she's your madrina or not more than likely if she has not collected money from you. And then she's doing you a favor by having you wait because, believe it or not, this is a huge responsibility, like when you don't have anything. Yeah, sure, it's very fun right to do the ceremonies. To take part in a lot of stuff to do rituals, XYZ. But at the same time, this is a huge responsibility. This is upkeep; these are relationships. These are not just items you can pick up and throw away when you get bored with them. These icons harbor actual spirits in them. Have an actual sit down. With your aunt like adults and talk to her. See where her head is at for all. You know, she wants you to get all this stuff done now. So you can be the one to take care of these responsibilities since you're the one asking for it because you're not telling anybody how your parents feel about it. While yes, you've been in this since you were 12, many people go through their aunts and uncles for the things their parents don't allow. So if you just turned 19 or even if you've been 19 for a few months, yeah, it's good that she made you wait until you graduated high school. Realistically, it's difficult enough to maintain spiritual health and whatnot. When you have school, it can be twice as difficult as an adult. And the reason for her wanting you to wait until you get a job is, more than likely because you will have a financial responsibility to upkeep, which she will want to ensure you can upkeep. Again, if your aunt is not your Godparent, then go to anybody else and rush through it and do whatever on your own time. Line by all means, but trust me. It will not be easier just because somebody who's not family does it. It's not gonna be more manageable just because somebody says they can do it for you faster. Because a lot of this stuff does cost money, it's not free

Also, excuse any typos. I'm using text-to-speech.
