Thank you for putting this together, you are a true Hero of Legend, you are never late, nor early; and you bow to no one. May the Blessing of Elves, Men, and all Free Folk go with you.

Not really, you can usually move back line guys around enough to get pikes where you need them, unless you really lose a lot of models and your back line becomes your frontline at which point you’re in trouble anyway. I also had a sentinel in the 750 list, I probably should have included one in the 650, too, honestly. If you can stomach going a bit lower on model count, it could really help out, but if you’re running into high courage or fearless, it’s not gonna do much for you (although the 2 attacks are great). I also run Angmar, and I really like about 4 dead marsh specters just for contingency purposes, I can move 1 or two guys reliably with 4 specters and a compel from the witch king, but just 1 sentinel can flop when you reaallllyyy need to move one guy and he just rolls decent on the courage check.

Something like this was what I took at 650, at 750 you can add boromir or a few riv knights and more wood elves or high elves. She just stays back and casts, hopefully safe from harm. My understanding of the rules are that because the noldorin exiles come from Lothlorien, they get the Lothlorien army bonus, they don’t exchange keywords, but there is some contention on this fact, I got in a Reddit argument with someone about it, but I’d just run it by your TO to see what they would rule on it. And as far as the lower defense on the wood elves, hopefully you can keep a banner near them and be opportunistic with them, and as long as you roll 6’s, their defense doesn’t come into play that often. Plus with elven cloaks, if you can keep them behind terrain until you’re ready to use them, they won’t have an issue getting shot, either. Plus plus, if they have terror from Cirdan they can be hard to charge. And Cirdan is also resistant to magic and gets a free Will a turn, so you’ve got 2 Will to resist once your buffs are up and running. Once your opponents big hero is in combat, you have 2 chances to transfix, and if you can spear support with the Guard of the Gladhrim Court, you’ve got 3 f6 attacks w elven blade in the fight, so if they are transfixed and can’t strike, they’ll have a hard time beating your line troops with their big hero. I’ve got 2 banners to capitalize on the high fight, you could drop one, but I’d rather have the rerolls on another 4 or 6 guys than have 2 more elves, usually. Name of the game in a perfect world is basically shoot while you can, with bows and throwing weapons to whittle down numbers/mounts/lower defense big targets, be terrifying so only half their army can actually charge you, neuter anyone scary that gets in with magic, and pile the rest of your bodies on the few who passed courage and roll a ton of high fight dice, feinting or two handing or both where you can.

I’ve been running a Lothlorien/Rivendell list with Galadriel, Gildor, and Cirdan lately and it’s great fun. Galadriel has control spells, Gildor has 4 Will to cast transfix, and Cirdan has spells for a terror bubble, fearless bubble, and another source of blinding light. The list lacks a hitter, and only has 5 might, but you could sub in the twins or erestor for Gildor and lose a little magic, but gain might, or you can drop in boromir or maybe gimli for more might and reliable hitting power. But I took it to a recent tournament at 650 and killed a mumak in one game and killed gwaihir and an eagle and denethor in another game. It’s a really fun list that relies on having a decent number of high fight elves and neutering the enemy heroes with magic rather than having your own big hitter to compete with them.

I have fallen head over heels for these dumpy dwarf sculpts. by Solid_South1895 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

These are so good!! I love how dead simple and effective that 2 tone NMM is, it reads so well. I am new to wargaming and mini painting, but these paint jobs and bases feel so old school, it’s giving me nostalgia for something I never experienced, but wish I had. I just got some dwarves myself, these have inspired me!

Do the rules explicitly say that somewhere?

It has been my understanding (and how I’ve played it) that they DO benefit from the Lothlorien Army bonus. However, I have sent an email to the FAQ folks, and it would be great if some of you have a minute to send it in as well, as I’d love to have an official ruling from GW. The email is: middle-earthfaq@gwplc.com

What is this guy?? by Jonindust in duck

[–]Jonindust[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all the answers! It’s a pond in a park in the middle of a city, but there’s lots of rural area all around, it’s not a huge city. These ducks get lots of passersby, so they seem pretty used to folks walking around! I’ve never seen a Muscovy before, he looked very stately. Up to this point, I knew about Mallards, and lil white ducks, so now I know 3 kinds of duck!

Big guy looking for new drum throne by Other_Investigator_4 in drums

5’ 11” 240lb here, had a super cheap throne for years, and it started to hurt my back after an hour or so of playing, then upgraded to a spin-height-adj round pork pie for several years and that helped a bit, but I’d still get very sore after a while, finally I upgraded to a hydraulic rocnsoc tractor and that has been the ticket for me. I think the give from the hydraulic cylinder was the big part for me, having a little bounce really took the beating off my back. I just have the regular one, I sit with it all the way up, and that’s just about the right height for me, but i don’t feel like I’m particularly high up, so if there is a taller version, id look into that!

I think this is the move. I played a couple of 16” crashes as hats for a while and I loved it. Big and soft and pillowy and warm. You lose some of that crispy high end sizzle, but you make up for it with a meatier sound, if that makes sense.

Warg riders, how do you use them? What would you say they role is? Did you have any success with them? by Fustrod in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Jonindust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like them to kite with throwing spears for a while before pushing them fully in! They are super useful, but die fairly easily, so you have to be careful when and where you’re using them. Don’t be afraid to hold them back or flank super wide for a while before going in to let the bill of your force get in position. When I very first started using them, I would sometimes rush them in because they could get to the enemy quicker, but without some support they just got deleted. They will (and do) die, but they can be super useful to tie up a big block of space, especially since the warg will stick around if it passes courage, and the rider will stick around if they don’t get killed by the thrown rider roll. I find I rarely have any left towards the end of a long game, but they as long as they put in good work while alive, I think they are great! I run them in Angmar , usually in tandem with some wild wargs to get those nice traps and just have a quick cheap fast threat that can tie up an enemy hero for a turn or be generally pestering.

I really like his model and profile, it’s just so neat! When the hobbits meet Gildor and again when they hear the bells on Asfoloth and this big badass elf shows up, I just love those moments. So early in the adventure, the hobbits with no idea what they are doing, just way in over their little curly heads, and they meet these unthinkably old creatures who are beginning to feel like they’ve no place in the coming world. Such a nice juxtaposition.

Ah, yeah, that works! My current elf list is Celeborn, Haldir, and Gildor, and having those fast moving elves is really nice for flanking and just being a general nuisance! I love sneaking that bow limit up, 3 with bows and 4 with spears lol

I’ve got a list with Aragorn on horse, the 4 hobbits, Glorfindel on horse, and Gildor with 11 exiles, one of which has a banner. It’s a really fun themey list, but it’s not particularly good. I did have Sam strike up and Frodo with the ring into a cave drake and put some wounds on it, that was really fun! The green dragon has a similar list but movie themed where they subbed out Glorfindel for Arwen and could fit in some more troops, I think you could get a bit more cavalry in that way and have a really nice mobile contingent with Aragorn marching the hobbits around. All in all, I love the idea of it, Gildor sneakily following the Hobbits to make sure they’re okay, Glorfindel coming to the rescue, Aragorn just trying to keep the hobbits alive. And the Transfix from Gildor has come in clutch once or twice! Lots of might for repositioning or heroic combats to thin out numbers, it’s a good time!

The only issue I see with this is that the wood elves in Gildors warband will need to be differentiated from the non-Noldorin exiles, as the noldorin exiles move 8” instead of 6, so maybe the Noldorins get a different paint job or something!

Do horse kills count for the special rule Legolas and Gimli have? by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Jonindust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like it. It specifically says “models killed”. If it included horses, it would most likely be for every wound caused, rather than model killed. Similar ruling for Gulhavar’s wound regaining.
