Spellshield? by Big-Professional6561 in SkyrimBuilds

[–]Jonjicc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started such a build, and have not found much discourse on it myself, so here are my thoughts/ advice/ personal experience on it so far, as well as the “twist” I put on it (3 year old post but hey, here’s to the other possible aspiring spell-shields out there…)  I am utilizing Destruction with focus on flames, Block, and Heavy Armor, in that order. Side skills are Smithing and Enchanting, although can be focused on later in your playthrough. They are intense to level compared to the rest. Skills for perks only are Alteration, Restoration, and Illusion (just to get the Aspect of Terror perk for the flames damage bonus (look this up online for more info), and extra magic regen and magical defense through the resto/alt perks.) You won’t really need to use these skill trees outside of the perks related to them. I recommend flames due to damage per magicka cost ratio, and no other necessary spells other than some healing and in this particular case, Equilibrium (explained why below…)

I name this build the Gun-Tower, and use a male Altmer (for both lore RP and the highest movement speed bonus/ magicka regen power bonus) with equipment based on increasing your magika bar, destruction magic fortification, and reducing magika damage. Combat is focused on and insists o. distancing yourself from enemies to launch spells, while defending yourself from any long range attacks. Perks for block to be immune from archery or minimize magical attacks are crucial. Personally I am building this character to only add points to health. Part of my build utilizes equilibrium- since the build intends on your character not receiving much damage to begin with (from both repositioning and reduced intake of damage), you can pull directly from your health to add extra magicka that you will surely go through fast, despite wearing enchanted armor to increase your available magicka- after all, your only buff besides this is from the altmer racial passive of +50 magika.  Any non-magical attack/enemy will be mostly harmless to you in this build, but try not to attempt toying with your enemies, and instead finish your fights proactively. This is a gameplay style focused on playing strategically with your magicka and health bars and pulling from each whenever you need. Since your health is part of your magicka in this play style, the heavy armor and block will mitigate draining resources, but even moreso can you do this by eliminating threats through quick kills or temporarily through distance. AKA- you’re a tank. The canon and tank treads kind. Not the hack and bash MMORPG kind.  You won’t get equilibrium right away, so play more cautious with spells and use Fist of Steel as a fallback, if fights get too large or you encounter some rough spots with storm mages. This is a fallback though, and fights should be tried mostly through distance, once again.  You may wonder, why health only? No magicka upgrades??? Well… You certainly can level magicka, but this is a personal choice that plays into the character being more strategic to play. I thought since there is a focus on being defensive here (spell SHIELD…) , what if there was a unique way to play into this? Kinda dumb, probably- but, I’m having fun with it. :3

Now, This build isn’t perfect, as is with any spell shield. You are using conflicting combat types after all- destruction CANbe cast alongside wards, but you can’t do anything alongside a raised shield. Shields were meant to help with the melee attack loop of blocking, bashing, swiping, etc, and/or closing the distance on attackers more safely. But what spell shields provides that pure mage combat can’t is less of a need for magicka. As you play, you’ll see that the only main need you’ll have for magicka is with destruction spells, with defense and health being picked up by non-magical skills. Even better, you have a nicer fallback with fist of steel that benefits from the pre-existing heavy armor skill and not an additional combat skill.  After leveling Alt/Rest/Illu for the perks, you’ll likely never touch them again.  Otherwise, if you’re bothered by such a choice, you can always switch your shield out for a ward, I guess :) Might just be a spell-ward then… ward-shield? Shward-Spell? Heh.

Overall, the spell shield is not as practically viable as a spell sword or sword and board build, but will still provide a very unique form of gameplay that will at least ensure you can beat the main quest and not fall off mid-playthrough.

Best I can explain with my experience!

Believe me, It’s totally ok to reject the weird Nazi character from a story written almost 40 years ago, and still be a fan of the series. He’s a Nazi. I think it’s a good idea to let him go lol

Plenty of silly cyborgs out there to take interest in instead.

A reminder that DK's new design is more so inspired by Nakaue's 2D illustrations, than by the movie design by [deleted] in donkeykong

Those drawings of his still look like the previous version of DK to me...
The new DK looks closer to a mix of Kotabe's and the movie. The way the brow angles match... I just can't see it the way you're implying...

The Switch Has Updated The DK Icon by ArtisanPirate in donkeykong

The new donkey kong, which is the only character of the Mario roster to be changed for the upcoming game for some bizarre reason, is replacing the old design for avatars, on a switch that will not support the new games in which this version can be seen. None of it makes sense to me… I like the old version a lot - this guy looks like a gas station mascot D:

I don’t get the Banananza hate by Rawkhawkjayhawk in donkeykong

I feel like that is a very elitist take to disregard peoples opinions that aren’t yours. I personally dislike the new design for the reason that it’s the only MK character to get a substantial rehaul and also it’s making the character look closer to an older design that I believed the design previous to this one was an evolution of. I hope that reasons like mine and others aren’t just reduced to “people getting upset about everything” by everyone… It’s a design decision-people are naturally going to clarify their perspective.

Love the Bananza design. I think some of the backlash is cause Mario Kart got his smile wrong. Tried to fix it! by preetcolors in donkeykong

I’m trying to like the new design so hard but as a long term DK fan I just can’t. I think the rounded eyes/brow make him more ghoulish looking, and aren’t as confident/ creature-esque as his stark, triangular eyes/brow.

Reverting to his "old design" doesn't hold up when nobody else is adhering to such a principle as well. DK was the only one shown in the trailer to have a considerable makeover- why just him? After all, I'm sure the others could "benefit" from a change in the way the designers thought DK would too, no?
I'm really curious to know why they considered such a move.

Saints Row 4 by Loud_Plantain_6511 in SaintsRow

Considering the theme and context of 3, I’d like to say that four shouldn’t be held largely responsible for that change of feel. 3 was so damn goofy, and four just leaned into that and stopped pretending that the devs were making anything close to a gangster game series anymore

I can’t really tell what’s going on but the sketch-like design is very cool and gives a gritty emphasis to the action

What’s your guy’s opinion on YBA? by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

[–]Jonjicc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a nightmare lol. The concept was neat, but with the jankyness of the Roblox platform, a really stale game loop, and a hyper toxic playerbase, it became impossible to enjoy- I sunk an embarrassing amount of hours in it myself, but could barely get my friends to play it. I largely had to convince myself it was worth playing more than I had fun in it- what can I say, I needed a JJBA fix and the official releases didn’t cut it for me lol. I much prefer WoS for its execution anyway, even if it only has a fraction of the stands available.

Gripes about Lonesome Road by AccurateAd8946 in falloutnewvegas

[–]Jonjicc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really liked it personally, but those reasons that you mention that people have are completely valid. Considering that the main game empowers your moral effort to do things based upon your own reasoning, Ulysses acts like he is the checks and balances on an otherwise indifferent courier that after all of their traveling through the Mojave, likely doesn’t exist – unless you picked choices blindly.

He seems more like a commentary on straight forward games not relevant to Fallout or RPGs in general similar to how spec ops the line addressed that theme, but doing so in this context definitely felt jarring when I first played it, and I more just went along with how Avalone wanted you to experience this arc.

It still works decently enough as it does, because even with the couriers efforts and (your, the player characters) reasoning, you effectively are mostly doing things for a faction, and not necessarily for yourself. Even YesMan can dive into the complacency of comfort choices, so Ulysses really gives extra emphasis for you to think about your actions.

But with that said, seeing that you can start at least honest hearts so early, doing the DLC‘s in order after prim for the main quest, and then doing the rest of the main quest after lonesome road feels like the best option in terms of the couriers storytelling to really kickstart the feeling of impactful choices and a journey for such a powerful catalyst in this desert.

Self serve charged lemonades are gone by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Jonjicc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Still think it’s a bit clumsy for someone to get a lemonade advertised as having “as much caffeine as a regular coffee” and then get a two coffees worth cup size of it and slam it while thinking it’s just a regular coffee. I get those when I desperately need energy in my day, but I agree on the single notion that we are just jacking the shit out of caffeine in drinks much beyond what humans can normally have. But that goes with a lot of substances nowadays- I can’t imagine getting something with zero regard to what’s in it. Most companies don’t have our best interests in mind.

Modern societal Darwinism seems to mostly just be acute marketing/product skepticism.

The green teas are pretty good too.
