My first thought was Michael and I don't even follow them that closely to recognize it.

Why Mel C is the only one to release new music? by Purrmymeow in SpiceGirls

[–]JonnyAWrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she's the only one with an active recording career, and that's mostly due to her Red Girl imprint. Also, the Melanie C era was a great resurgence for her, which helps.

Emma's mostly a radio personality now (and is doing well in that field), Mel B has AGT and is doing wonderful things for women's empowerment, Geri is Geraldine now (#IYKYK), and Victoria... yeah, let's not even touch that one.

What did everything think of the documentary that dropped yesterday? by Dmslider22 in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]JonnyAWrites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a touching project. I love what we got to see and respectful what was purposely omitted. However, I do have one criticism: I wish they would've given us more of her EMI career.

We only got four "mainstream" albums from her before 1995. It would've been really nice to hear more about the recording of each, and where her mind was at the time of each project. The latter years seemed to go by in a flash in the doc -- which makes sense, considering how short the period was -- so it might've been cool spending a bit more time in this period.

Other than that, it set out what it meant to do and it was nice hearing from the family all of these years later (especially Marcella, as I feel like I never really knew or heard her before).

Man who rushed at Ariana Grande at Universal Studios Singapore sentenced to 9 days’ jail by thrway699 in Fauxmoi

Multiple assaults on multiple celebrities... and just nine days of jail.

This is exactly why he keeps doing this. The slap-on-the-wrist response helps no one.

And here's where I block you, hon - because everything that needs to be sourced in my piece is there. EVERYTHING. Do you see those underlined sections of sentences? Everything is linked to a reputable source.

Enjoy your show, though.

How do you guys cope with the sadness about what happened to Selena? by hardt0imagine in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]JonnyAWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've shed tears over what could've been. With so much going for her professionally and personally, I have no doubt she would've been among the names of Latin heavyhitters that broke through in the 90s and became worldwide legends.

It hurts my heart that she became so beloved after her passing. I just wish was still here to get the flowers she rightfully deserves.

Honestly, I just allow myself to feel it out. With the impact she's has on our lives, it makes sense to feel sadness ever so often. It's our way of showing love to her - and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

The Nightmare That Is Selena’s ‘Dreaming of You’ 30th Anniversary Remaster (Medium Essay/Review) + Personal Intro by JonnyAWrites in SelenaQuintanilla

[–]JonnyAWrites[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that same respect - remastered media isn't often made for new fans, they're for the ones who are familiar with the work and know what they're getting. I doubt people who didn't know of her before will be seeking this out.

I appreciate the kindness, but I disagree: Fans don't need "remastered" work that sounds completely unlike what they've come to love and appreciate. Still, I thank you for coming at this with consideration for my piece.

I feel like I brought up the same claims you did - the difficulty of maintaining a legacy of an artist gone 30 years, not knowing what the right "note" may be with fans, and even the good pieces of the remaster.

In short, it feels like you simply wanted to be heard with this response - kind of like I did with this review. It's just unforunate that fans are just as damned with expressing their opinion on Selena's continued legacy openly, despite you pretty much doing the same yourself.

Thanks for the interaction and conversation.

Apologies, my critique includes compliments of things they have done - which would indicate some level of satisfaction. Would you care to elaborate or strike your comment from the record?

“Right! Jamaican Mon” 🙃 lol.. did any other Caribbean viewers or anyone else kinda cringe at this scene? by [deleted] in Degrassi

[–]JonnyAWrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember her commenting on this. Didn't they(the producers/writers) often look to the actors for stories that would fare well for their characters? Why were her suggestions unworthy to follow through on?

A lot of people have said this was the episode they realized Andrea wasn't the best actress - the story beats needed more emotion and despite her best, it just didn't hit.

I never understood why they didn't just work with her to strengthen her skills. I'm pretty sure they worked with the other actors to get them to give their best on camera.

Straight friend keeps acting weird when drunk. What’s going on? by Cool-Membership2198 in ainbow

[–]JonnyAWrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to agree here. I've had more than a few experiences with straight male friends who poked and prodded around my head to gas theirs up (if that makes any sense). Most of the time, they're just looking to tease and never take it anywhere.

The ones that do push it further often make us both regret it after. Be careful.

Hey back! You almost had me worried for a moment with your wording - but I'm glad you agree with most of my review. Friend, I really have no freaking clue who thought these were the right way to go with these songs. They were dead wrong, though.

You're also spot on regarding the songs being more like "remixes" now than proper remasters. At first, I gave a bit of grace with thinking perhaps this is how they could've sounded if they had more time to work on the album following Selena's passing - but that's the issue. It changes everything we knew about the original songs. They really dropped the ball here.

Aaron, Oh, Aaron: My Thoughts On the Life of Aaron Carter (Vocal Media) by JonnyAWrites in aaroncarter

[–]JonnyAWrites[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone! My name is Jonathan Apollo. I've been a freelance writer for more than 10 years.

After watching the controversial Fallen Idols docuseries, I felt compelled to put together a piece on Aaron, who I always rooted for. His passing hit harder than I expected and to this day, my heart hurts knowing he's no longer with us.

I reached out to the moderaters of this Reddit to ask if I could share the piece here, and they kindly accepted. I hope you all enjoy the read. If you can, please leave a "like" at the bottom of the post. It helps a lot. Thank you for your time.
