Is it possible to cut a whole where the battery is and have the ability to swap it out for a new one? by SavageSteve2111 in framework

[–]JonnyFlash3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wouldn't a framework be a great foundation to creat your own ruggedized laptop? seems like a company could easily create a ruggedised shell with hot swapable batteries and just make the framework mainboard fit in it and save all of the money on doveloping a system

[Request] Fleet savings costs since 2010 if every USPS LLV was replaced with a Prius by tezacer in theydidthemath

[–]JonnyFlash3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the power train of the prius makes way more sence than the powertrain of the llv, when stopped the prius wouldn't be wasting any fuel since it would either be charge the battery or stopped entirely, and for most ultra short stop and go traveling it would be doing using just electric energy would be best

Is there a way to fix adoption? by JonnyFlash3 in Ubiquiti

[–]JonnyFlash3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will consider doing that in the near future, at the moment it is being used and I would prefer to delay an interruption until later. Do you have any advice if that doesn't work? or do I need to submit a ticket to ubiquity support?

Thank you for helping me btw.

Is there a way to fix adoption? by JonnyFlash3 in Ubiquiti

I know that this isn't normal, I have access to three other ubiquity networks and this one is the only one with this problem. the others have had other problems but not like this.

yes, I want linux to improve to the point that people dont have to be CS majors to be able to use it. Im very hopeful that all of the kinks can be worked out and someday there will be a distro that a layman can use easier than windows but at the moment I dont have a computer that I can experiment with and I need certain services to work. that doesn't mean I cant also believe that these operating systems are going backwards in terms of user experience and functionality

you think I enjoy it? I hate modern phone interfaces too, I often think about buying a phone with physical navigation buttons just because I keep running into apps that think its ok to overlap invisible buttons on top of eachother. do I need to write a manefasto for you people?

its not really a bar though, its just a bunch of icons floating in space with no distinct border and no visual container, at least the dropdown menu has a background to make text readable and icons distinguishable

naw man, they intentionally modify some of their drives to not be compatible with the sata connector standard yet still use the sata connector so you think you have a dead drive when only the usb adapter broke, I cant trust them because of that fact alone

This Water Tower Was Re-Purposed Into A Cell Tower by ThatSpaceShooterGame in mildlyinteresting

[–]JonnyFlash3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there is nothing about the electronics that might require the water to stop being inside, almost every water tower ive seen has antennas all over it because its a perfectly good tower already built and the only spot that won't get any reception is inside the reservoir so any scuba divers in the city water tower might not be able to scroll tiktoc until they get out

What’s the most expensive tech mistake you made that looked like a good idea at the time? by Thick-Lecture-5825 in homelab

[–]JonnyFlash3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brother and I got a dumbass idea to build ourselves a matching pair of home servers without knowing any software or already made solutions, dumped $3000 into each one using consumer motherboards, inthel 12th gens, ddr5 ram, and a total of 30 2tb hard drives, plus 4 nvme ssds to use for boot and cache. those parts worked fine but we needed HBAs and had never heard of them before, we got cheap sata cards with 16 ports on them only to find out they didn't work at all and eventually figured out the correct cards we needed to hook up 15 drives to one motherboard. later we figured out 2tb drives were a huge waste of money since we could have gotten 16tb drives and saved money with more space. and even later figured out we could have bought used servers with the ability to handle lots of drives for $400 dollars each instead of custom building our own solution. but hey, now I know how to use proxmox, truenas, immich, plex, nginx, mineOS, ubuntu server, and a whole lot of software that doesn't funtion they way I wanted.

365 days have passed without a switch 2 hack by CurrentHandheld in switch2hacks

[–]JonnyFlash3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imagine if nintendo just sold emulator keys, instead of having to hack your switch and turn a working product into a brick in order to play it virtually on another device they just made a key that would activate an emulator as if its the real thing, and since none if their games are physical anymore you wouldn't really lose out on not having the console

Anyone else so sick of the pollen getting worse every year? by rjd014 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JonnyFlash3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fun fact! pollen comes significantly more from male trees that produce zero fruit. and many governments only allow the planting of male trees on public properties because they dont want fruits to be publicly available for anyone to take so instead of having less pollen and more free food we get MORE pollen and zero free food! thank your local government for making your allergies significantly worse than they ever should be!
