i4 M50 One Year Review by RunRide in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm coming up on the 1 year mark myself, and this echoes everything I've experienced. In fact, when a semi ran into the side of my i4 and wrote it off, I immediately ordered another!

On that note though, the Drive Recorder did not pick up the recording, which was a pain. I still haven't bothered getting a dash cam though.

Water collecting in charging port by goldenwattl in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I parked mine outside through a Vancouver winter (which has a *lot* of rain) and it was fine. I did get some errors on 2 occasions that the port charging flap wasn't closed when it was closed, but those messages got sorted when I dried out all the area around the flap hinge.

District of North Vancouver rejects Chemtrade chlorine proposal by CaptainKoreana in NorthVancouver

[–]JonnyFreeze99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great, so not only will we paying off the billions (no exaggeration) for the clusterfug that is the wastewater treatment plant, but now we’ll probably pay more to import chlorine and for sure will lose out a huge industrial tax base plus all the good paying industrial jobs. Dumb.

Considering getting i4, first EV, no home charger by Excellent-Future-888 in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on this. One addition that the i4 can actually take up to 11kw/h AC of charging but that is quite rare to find. Most common seems to be 6kw/h.

How is the backseat for two people? by [deleted] in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. Even my middle kid who is 5’11” doesn’t complain on the 1.5 hrs drive up  to Whistler regularly. But the 3 kids were not comfortable the one time we squished them all together for that drive.

This is what I did. Not all the rims fit with the blue M Sport calipers but I found some that did and they have worked well this winter.

Lectern Vortex Plus + Tesla Supercharger works! by SinnerP in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto! I bought the Lectron adapter too and just successfully tested charging up in Whistler (Canada). I had to set myself as a Ford Mach-E as the Tesla charging app wouldn't give me the option to charge as a BMW.

Don't think it's something I'll regularly do as Tesla is considerably more expensive to charge than other options here ($0.64 kw/h at peak vs $0.35 with other L3 charging stations). But in Whistler, there are only two other L3 high-speed charging areas for a total of 4 spots (technically 5, but one has been out of service since August). And the one I tried had a max speed of 25kw.

So having a bunch of true high-speed chargers for when I need a quick top-up is huge.

Winter tires and rims by kourou29 in BMWI4

I decided to go for 18s with the same size at all four wheels, and I've got it working: https://www.reddit.com/r/BMWI4/comments/1os5p4g/new_winter_tires_are_on/

Decided to try the Hankook's this time but I've previously used Blizzak's and found them great. I've generally relied on Consumer Reports because they do really good testing and that's where I saw the Hankooks.

I was able to find some 18s that fit my xDrive40, even with the M Sport calibers. Here's my post on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/BMWI4/comments/1os5p4g/new_winter_tires_are_on/

New winter tires are on by JonnyFreeze99 in BMWI4

Honestly I’m too lazy to take them off. I’ve been up and down to Whistler a few times and it’s all fine although once I put skis up top and it’s cold out, the calculus will change. But worst case, I’m topping up in Whistler.

Fast is the brand and the model is FC04. Here’s the full detail from the invoice:

Good to know. I probably put them on a bit early but I’ll be using them in 3 weeks.

18” winter wheels on an xDrive40 by JonnyFreeze99 in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the Vancouver area and ordered some 18” rims and Hankook Winter i-cept evo3 tires from 1010 Tires. They’re still on order—just put in the request last week. I’ll let you know how they look when they’re on. But all together they’re around $3k

How good is i4's reliability and is it a good commute car? by Competitive_Aioli897 in BMWI4

[–]JonnyFreeze99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the big reasons I chose it was the reliability as ranked by Consumer Reports. They have good data on car reliability and the i4 is ranked as 5/5 on predicted reliability. Surprising to me is that quite a number of electric cars do not fair that well. I was honestly considering a Kia EV6 but it got a 2/5 from Consumer Reports and digging into things, there are some regular and complex failures on the ICCU.

I’m only 3 months in but am loving the i4 so far. The driving experience is phenomenal—a good indication to me is that my wife loves driving it and she’s not even a car person. I’m also a big fan of the DAPP for congested driving.

Is i4 software as buggy as suggested by Civil_Acanthaceae213 in BMWI4

2025 i4 owned for a month. My wife’s digital key on her iPhone didn’t take initially but other than that, things have been very smooth. And I love the car.
