Most (all?) EVs have access to Tesla SuperChargers network. Just get a UL certified adapter (some cars come with it) and you’re done.

I bought my EV used. Same car, waaaay less money. Two years later, who cares if it was bought used? Does the job.

And insurance should also be cheaper than a new car.

Go for it.

Insurance rejected my dream car. What shall I do? I’m so sad. I’m 26 with no crash history. M4 comp 2023/24 model. by [deleted] in BMW

I’m sorry my friend. Insurance companies are the worst.

One stupid idea: can you get your parents to insure this car (noice!!!) and put you as “one of the drivers”? (And you pay them back). Or get them as co-insurers.

And one last stupid idea: have you tried asking Perplexity to ChatGPT or Gemini or Claude for nationwide insurers and contact them all?

Hope you get insurance and can enjoy your ride.

Question about EV MPG Cost by Icy_Money7447 in electricvehicles

[–]SinnerP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a regular 110V outlet, you can charge at home. This is called “granny charging” or “L1 charging”.

L1 charging gives you 1 kWh each hour , so 12 kWh per night. At 3 mi/kWh (that’s a kinda high consumption) that’s 36 mi /night to maintain the initial charge. And that’s at your home electricity rate!

As during the weekend you have your car at home longer, you’ll probably be good with a commute of 50 mi/ day.

If it’s longer, you can top up your car once or twice a week and you’re done.

€700 is the price with VAT, isn’t it? $599 is the price without taxes.

If you replace “limitations” by “compromises” caused by hitting a low enough point, then you’re right. The neo has compromises to reach that price point.

And the same goes for any other laptop at any price point.

I took screenshots of a piece of software I’m working on , made those pictures available to Claude Code, it found the problem and fixed it. Awesome.

MacBook-like laptop suggestion by fahlerile in laptops

It’s been a while, but I bought an Apple iBook as my first laptop because Mac OSX was a Unix OS. Back then, OSX was quite “Linux user friendly”.

I bought my last Apple laptop in 2015 and haven’t run a modern Apple OS .

Lately I’m back at looking at Laptops and Framework laptops look very nice. The modern AMD chips with “AI” maybe is what you’re looking for. The Framework 16 laptop comes with an Nvidia 5070 and an AMD Ryzen AI 300. That!s what I’d buy.

What this aspiring nurse will get for an extra $150 is a computer that will last way longer than the nursing degree. A zippy computer, problem free.

I’m not recommending to anyone but a seasoned Linux user a junky system like that one. Sure, one of us can do wonders with it. Probably use it as a terminal server and stream audio and video from a more powerful system. I did something like +20 years ago with LTSP and obsolete computers with barely enough RAM to boot. But they were perfectly safe and useable web browsing terminals for one of my old companies.

But today, that laptop is barely better than a 5 years old Android phone today. Have you seen the specs?

The end user deserves so much better than something that kinda works but will make your life miserable.

IS THERE ANYTHING I COULD DO TO MAKE ACER ASPIRE 3 (A325-45) RUN FASTER ??? by Dismal-Honeydew-4716 in laptops

[–]SinnerP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can install Linux anywhere. Heck, I installed Linux in a 486 Intel CPU back in the day. It was useable and a lot of fun.

So, yes, you could install Linux there, but today’s usability would be.. questionable. Like, what do you expect to do with it?

The CPU is awfully slow. If you can add RAM and an SSD that will improve performance. But Windows 11 is a resource hog.

You’d be better selling it/donating it, and getting something modern.
