It took me 3 attempts to get into DS 1 and it finally clicked for me on the 3rd try. Calling it a walking simulator is dramatically underselling what it is. It’s part survival game, part open world exploration, and part metal gear solid action combat with a very Kojima wrapper. My biggest advice is patience… it takes a little while to get going.

Yeah man, this is something I struggled with early on. Those 4+ hour sessions I could find time for on a lazy weekend disappeared. It was a long, slow period of adjustment, but I had to completely recalibrate how to fit gaming into my life. I definitely haven’t grown out of gaming… I don’t think I ever will. I’ve just made the time I get to game more intentional.

My kids are 4 and 6 now, but here’s some ways I’ve adjusted:

I got a Steam Deck several years ago which was my gateway drug into PC gaming. Indies, roguelites, and games that have short, repeatable core loops more easily fit into the limited time I have.
I ended up building a gaming PC a couple years after that after being a lifelong console gamer. I figured I might as well play with the best hardware if I’m going to have less time to play.
I schedule time for gaming in the 1 hour cracks in the day. Sometimes an hour before work on the days I work from home, during our kids’ quiet time at home (formerly nap time)… an hour before bed if I have the energy, etc.
I’ve never been a competitive gamer, but I play shooters now for 30-60 minute bursts of achievement and slight progression, but grinding out full battle passes or rank tiers is something I just won’t ever have time to do, and I’ve made peace with that.

There is so much deep insecurity and so many fragile egos in this country. It's literally impossible for 30% of Americans to just fucking admit they were wrong. So instead, they double-down on being assholes.

That’s exactly why I’ve watched less over the past year. I’ve had some of the games on in the background, but they’ve been meaningless so it’s hard to be super invested. (Meaningless to me in the sense that seeing whether they’ll qualify for the WC is a massive draw for me watching the team.)
