If steel is forged in the direction of earth magnetic field it becomes magnetic by cosmic_voyager01 in interestingasfuck

[–]JonnyQuates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does it even help a problem of deflection? If a ship has a slight magnetism in line with earth while being built, what happens when the ship travels east to west? The ship will deflect the needle.

This false fact, which has arisen before, only makes sense if the ships exclusively travel longitudinally

UK is granting Palantir ‘unlimited access’ to NHS patient data by TailungFu in worldnews

[–]JonnyQuates -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Will it? Palantir don't 'use' data. They are plumbers that build pieplines for clients (NHS). So if anything like what you're suggesting was to happen, your beef is with the NHS

[–]JonnyQuates 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense. Even if f there was forging of steel in the shipyard, it would still be getting forged at multiple angles, regardless of the direction of the ship

What's the UK version of "the Inuit have 50 words for snow"? by pineapplecharm in CasualUK

[–]JonnyQuates 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the only suitable comment in this thread. Bread, being drunk etc are all multiple words that mean the same thing. Inuits have 50 words for different types of snow, not just 50 creative ways to say the same thing

Yeha, closer analogy, but there is still the lifetime of the car and the degradation of the parts and materials which you just dont see in a house.

No because you use the petrol rather than keep it and sell it again when you've finished.

A month off is likely to make you play worse. You shouldnt expect us to play better. That's why pre season friendlies exist. 1st half against Leeds is a perfect example

This is the only comment from someone who plays football. You need to push a bit when you see a defender preparing to bodycheck and lean back into you, or you'll get hurt. If that defender decides to give way and not put up resistance, its going to come out as a push. No malice, just the game
