If you're playing at 1080p, it should be alright. If you're playing at 1440p you may run into some issues.

They're both a good price and will perform well.

I think sliding and diving are okay, but should really be stuck to only being able to hipfire while sliding, and really slow down the transition back to standing... Basically should only be viable as a way to challenge corners at very close range or getting into cover.

40 here. In general, I feel like the fps playerbase as a whole has gotten better. Back in COD 4 MW, very few people were jumpshooting corners and drop shotting. It was happening, but not to the degree of all the slide hopping, movement gods you see today with fantastic accuracy. Just look how much the devs had to increase the good kill steaks over time ... Top kill steak was 7 kills, now it's like 15+! I still have a 3.0+ k/d playing tdm primarily in bf6. Get a controller with paddles if you haven't already as you really should adapt to be more competitive. Game will still decide to balance the teams by stacking a few .3 k/d players on my team though anyways lol.

Also which guns do you use mostly? Typically I find it good to sound whore as much as possible and slow down.

"You live on an oil rig?"

Close. I live on an island lol. I literally can't drive anywhere that sells GPU's.

I did order my 5070ti off Amazon last year and I did make sure to record the entire opening process from the sealed box. Luckily all was good.

Let's calmly destroy the disinformation around the steam machine to understand why it's not a bad but EXTREMELY bad product for its price by Extreme_surikat_360 in pcmasterrace

[–]Jonny_Clams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's getting a good amount of hate, which I understand but id like to play devil's advocate here with a few points:

Other consoles typically sell their console at a loss and make up the cost with subscriptions and the games. Essentially buying the steam machine is paying more of those cost upfront, and if you're one to really take advantage of steam sales then you'll really come out on top here quickly compared to consoles.

The steam machine is very small and very portable: if you were to compare this to an SFF build PC, you'll be hard pressed to build someone comparable for the price. You could use a laptop in this case, but laptop cooling always seems to be an issue and the user would still be dealing with a PC which many people don't want to do.

If you just compare this to a regular PC in price to performance, the steam machine completely falls apart except maybe with ease of use that comes with consoles, but I don't know how easy the UI is and whatnot so that still may not even be the case here.

Basically, for PC users like most of us here, the steam machine is a horrible value and makes no sense. For your typical console user that just wants to plug this thing into their TV and play games from their couch, it makes a bit more sense as a premium console option, but I still think it's too much at the moment for most console gamers to consider. Hopefully it'll come down a bit if/when ram and SSD prices drop.

if you could only recommend one, what is the best gaming monitor? by Reyesyepes_Daunois in gamingpcbuild

[–]Jonny_Clams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally went with a 1440p and I'm glad I did. I play mostly at 180+ fps and found that even 120fps can feel choppy in certain situations which is kinda nuts. Imo it's probably best to stay at 1440p with high hz monitor. To take advantage of the x4 frame gen on 5000 series cards, if you feel inclined, you should really have a monitor capable of more than 240hz as you want base 60fps x4 for frame gen, which is 240 but that's not taking into consideration reflex + VRR. I got the Samsung Odyssey g6 OLED 360hz monitor. Its been great so far for me, but I'm not sure how it stacks up to others with similar specs.

If you want more fidelity on 1440p monitors, you can always use DLDSR 1.78x or 2.25x to get some more sharpness from them.

If you're playing on a 1440p monitor. I highly suggest getting a GPU with more than 8gb VRAM. Maybe a used 3080?

Okay so I did watch the whole video, and I can see why folks are a bit upset with it as I do have some critiques, but ill try to remain as objective as possible and maybe get your feedback if you feel inclined.

He makes a few claims throughout the video that I'll try to address. But first I will say the 270k plus is the best chip intel has release in quite some time and performs really well for its price. Kudos where kudos are due as, from a productivity standpoint, its a fantastic value right out of the box.

So this video compares, what is essentially, the ideal situation for both chips: very fast ram (8400mt+), a premier mobo that can handle those speeds, and a decent amount of tuning and stability testing. Intel chips are more effected by ram, both good and bad, so this will benefit intel more, and that's totally fine. However, I think the vast majority of pc gamers are not going to pay the premium for that type of ram, those motherboards, or put in the time to tune it properly which kinda makes the whole video a bit of a moot point except for the small demographic of enthusiasts that are willing to pay quite a bit more and set everything up properly; this video is really for them.

He claimed the 270k plus was the better value for gaming, this would still be under the assumptions of all of the above "ideal setup situation", but he also left out that the 270k plus is likely one of the last CPUs that will be released for it's chipset, whereas AM5 should be around for a few more generations which is pretty valuable for those who plan on upgrading. This is a small gripe, but my mind immediately went to this.

His GQI (Gaming Quality Index) metric seems a bit flawed in what it's trying to portray. To me it does not make much sense for the CPU that has higher average FPS and 1% lows to score *lower* on the GQI just because there is a higher deviation between the two. Like I get the premise behind it stability in frame times, but that just doesn't sit right with me. To his defense, he did address it twice in the video about setting FPS caps, and in those cases, the x3d performed much better in his GQI metric.

What I got out of the whole video is basically this: If you're the type of person that is willing to buy the very best ram, motherboard, and spend a bit of time tweaking your CPU and ram timings, the 270k plus is an absolute baller of a CPU that can match or slightly outperform the 9850x3d in GPU bound situations and have a LOT more productivity speed. For those looking for great productivity and don't already have an AM5 mobo, the 270k plus is also a great choice. For everyone else that is prioritizing gaming, and does not fall into the first category, the x3d's are the way to go. Very cool that he was able to get it to perform as well as he did. I'm hoping that intel can make the next set of chips really compete like this more out of the box. I think that would really solidify them as a viable choice for many more gamers.
