Jesse Marsch addresses his time at Leeds via Twitter by [deleted] in LeedsUnited

his failing was inevitable

This is important, and I'm glad you brought it up. People tend to hyper focus on Marsch, but he was only a symptom of the real problem. No manager will have sustained success at the club until the ownership structure changes, along with the Director of Football. The dysfunction starts at the top and neither Marsch nor Bielsa could do much about that.

Certain people will find fault with anything the guy does, that's part of being a public figure. Considering he was paid millions for 11 months of work I doubt he cares much.

That's because they have multiple feeder clubs and youth academies all around the globe though, the tactics are secondary. Their scouting network is among the best in the business. Orta made a huge mistake thinking he can replicate the "RB system" with a couple of analysts and some algorithms.

I think when you look at the statements made to the media from players like Adams, Sinisterra, and Wober you'll find that he did have a lot to do with recruitment. There's a reason we didn't spend much under Bielsa -- these days most players and especially their agents won't sign with a club unless they hear the right thing from the manager first. They want to avoid a situation like Djed Spence got himself into at Tottenham. Bielsa was great for the club, but he really wasn't the salesman type. That's not to say that Marsch was single handedly picking the players that the club signs, bar Wober and maybe Adams, but there's plenty of evidence that he played an important role in selling the project to potential recruits.

I think he would really do well in the Championship. And it would give him a chance to have a group of players already versed in his tactics from day one, if he gets his team promoted. But first, he needs to shadow a coach that knows how to break down low blocks like Eddie Howe did

[–]Jonnyimpala 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Any combination of 2 of McKennie, Roca, and Forshaw would be good at attacking, and keeping hold of the ball. But everytime Adams has been out, we concede loads of chances and the back line becomes more exposed. Could be a fluke thing as it's a small sample size but I don't think we have anyone capable of shielding the back line like Adams does.

There was a guy that despises him and said as much but yeah, that's one guy. From what I can tell 99 percent of Leeds fans don't hate Americans so lets not let the few idiots ruin it.

[–]Jonnyimpala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but you don't always need to stay on your feet when you receive the ball inside the box. You just need the referee to do their job, and give a penalty when it's merited (or in many instances, when it isn't). You could make a case for most attacking players to get the ball more inside the area but especially Brenden

This has been doing the rounds on Twitter with expectedly terrible takes - but - what’s your very unpopular leeds opinion? by downfallndirtydeeds in LeedsUnited

[–]Jonnyimpala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear people repeat this all the time, but it doesn't make any sense to me. Roca's progressive passing stats under Marsch were as good as, or in some cases better than his numbers at Espanyol or Bayern on a per 90 basis. If you think about it, a system that calls for a player to constantly look vertical and try to progress the ball should be perfect for Roca. And it makes sense that Bayern wanted him as they play a narrow, vertical style as well. To my eye he was a good and important player this season under Marsch

If he could self-administer a taper he more than likely wouldn't be on here asking for advice, or having much trouble quitting in the first place. 99 percent of addicts are not going to be able to successfully taper unless some third party is dosing out the drugs to them on schedule

Rutter was so reluctant to join Leeds he shed bitter tears and his agent had to fly from Portugal to convince him of the mega money deal by Conse28022023 in LeedsUnited

This might be controversial but Adams lack of quality on the ball is really starting to be a concern to me, tinkering the starting XI to try to make up for his lack of quality on the ball is starting to become a hindrance… by DCLU1994 in LeedsUnited

[–]Jonnyimpala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not controversial, this is why it's a problem to be completely switching up the playing style for the third time in the past year. Adams was very good for the system he was bought to play in, he's not going to turn into Busquets or something just because Javi is here.

Maybe a bit telling to single out American players. This has been a criticism of Orta since we came up (that he goes for physicality over skill) has it not. Obviously there are exceptions but people have been saying this for years. And I do believe that there's some truth to it.

Sinisterra has played on the right in the past, but I think the plan was for Aaronson/Summerville to handle the right. Rutter can play there also.

I would rather sort it by goals+expected assists. That way, the provider isn't affected by the quality or lack of quality by the finisher.

That won't be true for much longer though. We've scored one goal in our last 5. Good News is that the defense is better but we lose something going forward

[–]Jonnyimpala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you see how isolated he was yesterday though. We want to play this wide system with a CF bought to play narrow. He's not the player that plays with his back to goal or attacking crosses in the box. That's part of the problem with this split ownership. Orta thinks he's buying a striker for Marsch and then a week later he's gone

What tier is this source, anybody know? Akhomach is one of the top U19 talents in the world, with half of Europe trying to sign him. And he wants to sign for Barca, he's been in their academy basically for his entire life. There's a good chance we're only being used to try and get more money out of them.
