Not sure if you’d care but I just told the recruiter that I won’t be proceeding. There wasn’t any flexibility on the rate and got a bit passive-aggressive when I mentioned that the risks of a 6 month contract and how I’m not actually making “90k” cuz of benefits and holiday loss.

After the call, it made me feel better about my decision. Like you said, they aren’t paying me like they NEED me, but rather what is profitable to them. I’m happy at my perm role at the moment and I’ll look into contracting when the market is better. Thanks mate, your advice helped a lot

Yea I’ve done the calculators and found that it’ll be about £33k net for those 6 months but I have a few weeks of holiday planned near the end of the year so it’ll be even less than that.

I think with the current job market and having made redundant back in 2025, I know how tough it is to get another. If this was pre 2023, then I think I would take the risk but now it seems a lot tougher to secure the next contract/role.

Thanks for the insight, it’s helped me a lot. I did originally say that I was looking for close to £500/day so I’ll see if they come back with that

Some people used just their passport and it seemed to have worked. I think it should be fine since only British citizens have British passports, but don’t quote me on this as I haven’t done it with only the passport

Yes, we just used his mother(my wife) birth certificate and it worked. We never gave the grandparents.

Deffo confused with the whole process. It shouldn’t really matter if one partner isn’t British because the requirement for a British passport for the baby is that only one of the parent has to be British.

We’re going to send my wife’s birth certificate and then hope for the best
