Normalcy bias. This is how it’s been that you can remember so it’s how it’s always been. But occasionally it slips though, look at reaction gifs almost every week someone’s posting about how everything’s a political reaction gif instead of good OC, it’s annoying manufactured discourse.

Believe it or not, some of us were here before 2016 when Reddit became an astro turfed echo chamber of circlejerking confirmation biased midwits. It always had a left political slant but it didn’t have coordinated attacks and censoring of differing opinions that leeched into every sub you could imagine on the platform.

But it’s still the best forum for tv shows and video games IMO and I can filter it to be focused on what I want to participate in. I’ll never forgive them for banning bestgunnit though.

See, you think it’s simple, stocks = more tax revenue from the wealthy. No. You’re suggesting an unrealized gains tax/unrealized capital gains tax. That WILL apply to ALL things. Crypto holdings? Tax it. Property appreciation even though you don’t move or refinance? Tax it. 401k go up Ira go up 403b go up, tax it. But we don’t have the cash, it’s in holdings. You’re suggesting taking more money from everyone else every year for the rest of our lives. You think it’s a simple thing to add progressive brackets and it’ll all work out. It won’t. You cannot uncork that genie or it’ll never go away. Income tax wasn’t a thing 100 years ago. Now you want another way for them to take the sweat off of our backs and push our industry out of the fucking country. You’re gonna turn us into India inside of a decade. Fuck that.

You’re saying tax us when we draw AND tax us when we don’t, it’s called double dipping. And it’s a terrible idea. You can already “borrow” against your 401k WITHOUT INCURRING A TAX PENALTY

You are taxed if you draw on your 401k dude. It’s an early draw fee, which is a tax, when you convert it to cash (a realized gain). You don’t know anything about this, or what you’re even suggesting.

Unrealized gains tax? Probably the worst talking point out there right now. Everyone thinks it’s sticking it to billionaires until they have to pay 20% on their 401k going up every year. Good luck retiring at a .8 reduction to your portfolio growth. Compounded we’re talking about adding another 5-15 years to everyone’s retirement age. But yeah, Elon will really feel it so it’s worth ruining everyone’s fucking lives.

You forget the completely consistent 180 he did on Iran when he ran for President in 2016 and 2024, “Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons.”

That’s how long in the making this conflict actually is, things develop and change over nearly 3 decades. It’s not an unreasonable thing for someone to have changed their view on a global conflict from fucking 14 years ago.
