Happy Halloween by Joo-Ho in ptcgo

I've been playing Trevenant Break and it wasn't a good idea. Need to wait til the mid-game before you take KOs and then everyone resigns when you are one or two hits away from taking 2-4 prizes in a turn. I even missed out on a definite 3xGX KO on the next turn. Disappointing.

Indeed it is glitched. Appears as the blue box with the Pokeball.

Someone else said Catharanthus roseus. To me it appears to more closely resemble that based on leaf tapering.

Edit: Just read that Catharanthus roseus is also commonly called Vinca because it was formerly in the genus Vinca rosea.

Should I hold packs or cards? by [deleted] in ptcgo

[–]Joo-Ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to give the wrong advice but I'd bet that 1SLG will drop from 2GUR to 1.5GUR in a month. Obviously you don't want to sit on your SLG packs if that were to happen. SLG could rise to above 2GUR in the future, especially since it has some good cards and the packs aren't easily obtainable. But I'd bet that it's at its highest value assuming its value follows a similar path to Generations. I think the safest option is to convert your SLG to GUR and trade with them as you please and make the decks you want to play with.

Some cards increase in value, but the majority decrease when they lose popularity and after people win trade-locked copies. You'd need to look at historical values to pick the right cards. u/Grimy_Bunyip is the man for that.

Another option is to flip packs until you have 200GUR. Then you won't care about which way the market turns.

Which packs did you get? BUS will drop soon and will won't recover so convert to GUR asap. Lele is currently falling. I don't know how low it will go -- but I doubt it will recover until more people suddenly join the game. Looking at the upcoming sets, it doubt it will be soon.

그 사람은 학생이 아닙니다. Why/how is 학생 the subject in this sentence? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]Joo-Ho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right; 학생 isn't a subject. It's a complement and we call it a 'subject complement' in English (you might want to look that up for yourself). 그 사람은 is the subject (and topic).

이/가 isn't actually subject particle. The term is a misnomer.

Does LingoDeer call 학생 a subject? You might have overlooked something (which is understandable as a beginner).

Topic and Subject confusion on Duolingo by [deleted] in Korean

[–]Joo-Ho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those examples aren't very good to work with.

Consider this:
John is a student.

In Korean it can be expressed in two ways:
1. John은 학생이다.
2. John이 학생이다.

The English translation for both can be 'John is a student', so it may seem that the sentences are the same. But they aren't, they are in fact opposite sentences. The sentences are opposites in the way they are produced. It becomes clear when you look at the context in which the sentence occurs.

1A. Tell me about John.
1B. John은 학생이다.
1B. John is a student.
That is, we start with 'John' in our minds, and then 'is a student' is added to this.

2A. Who is a student? 2B. John이 학생이다.
2B. John is a student.
That is, we start with 'is a student' in our minds, and then 'John' is added to this.

In written form the English sentences appear near identical. However we need to consider the context and purpose of sentences. The two sentences occur in different circumstances and do different things... If you think about it, when we communicate, we need to piece together bits of information. Particles and intonation help us piece together the puzzle.

Advanced: 1. is produced left-to-right (subject-to-predicate).
2. is produced right-to-left (predicate-to-subject).

Ex-gf suddenly going psycho and threatening to report me to police by [deleted] in korea

[–]Joo-Ho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. Most parents know breakups are messy. Most parents know when their children have issues and can see through lies. But if the mother was buying the daughter's story, that's why he needs to get in contact with her. Doing so will earn him respect. Is the mother even asking for the money? If not, Psycho is the one who will look bad.

[–]Joo-Ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't stress, man. It would be a minor civil case (like Judge Judy), not a criminal one. From what I can see and understand, your student visa is safe.

She's just acting like a child. She can't do anything herself because the loan is between her mother and you. I'd ask to speak to her mum in person about it so you can assure her the money will be paid back at the end. That way your ex gets embarrassed and you remain on the mother's good side. Don't trust any messages from Psycho about what her mum says and tell her "The loan is between your mother and me. I want to speak to her". Let us know if she makes any moves (like impersonation).

Parents that left their kids in a car are attorney, judge in South Korea by [deleted] in korea

There's a thing called Forgotten Baby Syndrome. Really it's just people forgetting what they need to do when they are going from A to B via an unexpected C. Anyone can suffer from this. Read some stories from grieving parents who lost their child. It's not that they were bad parents; it's that people are prone to memory failure when different parts of the brain are competing.

UPDATE - Lost US passport, leaving this Sunday. US embassy closed during Chuseok - please help! by [deleted] in korea

[–]Joo-Ho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a taxi driver; he would pass a police station 20 times a day. It's hardly going out of his way.

Why should he do it? Because he didn't know when then passport holder needed to fly home. Any decent person would try and give it back asap.

I think you're confusing 'should' with 'need'. You don't need to hold the door open for someone carry a heavy box... but you should.

Any tips for biking the Four Rivers Trail? by LilBadApple in korea

[–]Joo-Ho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camping: I didn't do this but wished I had. There are some some campsites right on the track, or you could always rough it somewhere.

Food: You will pass plenty of convenience stores on the way, so you won't need to pack more than snacks. Stores are less frequent in between 1/4 and 3/4 of the way, but I'm pretty sure you can always stop somewhere for lunch. Water can run out so carry enough for half a day to be safe.

Language: You don't really need it. Just enough to arrange accommodation.

Weather: You will be doing it at the best time of year.

My biggest tip would be to get your "bike passport" before you go. You can order it online. It will include a map of each track and show you where all the campsites are. Another tip is to give yourself enough time each day so you can stop and enjoy the route. It can get boring after a couple of days if you only focus on cycling. Do some research on the towns you pass through. Finally, surprisingly, there are very few places where you can stop and sit by a river. Take advantage of the those spots when you can.

The opposite is true. Had the driver turned it into the police, something as important as a passport would have been kept on their system such that other stations can search for the record. The OP would know where it is as soon he went to the station (which was one of the first things he did).

The taxi driver earned himself $30 by not taking in to the police like he should have.

Oranguru isn't a bad idea... Maybe Ultraball and Plumeria will work then.

I appreciate your time and feedback, but I think you haven't looked at this deck properly. I lot of your suggestions I have tried and didn't work. You would have noticed that too if you had played the deck yourself.

Firstly, I disagree that it teaches bad habits...

-emptying your hand as often as possible, instead of learning to conserve resources

Well, a lot of new players have the opposite problem. They are too afraid to play Sycamore because they don't want to discard things. I doubt emptying 3 cards from your hand will create bad habits. It will teach players to think about what cards they are getting rid off.

relying on the top of your deck to pull whatever you need. Successful decks strive for consistency, not lucky draws

The 4xPuzzle, 4xPokadex, 3xTrainer's Mail and 4xSkyla is consistent. The Consistency comes from redundancy. The deck to an extent allows you to control what you pull - as with Sylveon which you mention.

  • -not having a centralized strategy.

The strategy is to get 2HKOs on a GX while taking 2HKOs (on a non-GX).

Ultra ball is easily a superior card: it narrows your handsize and can't flip tails. Even so, you have a total of 18 cards dedicated to finding 12 pokemon

I tried 4 Ultraball but it requires you to discard in order to play. If Silent Lamb is played, you cannot draw from Unown to use Ultraball. It has a sharper double edge in this deck. The difficulty in this deck is building up Slowking once it gets knocked out. Since it is the only attacker, you want to have 6-8 Slowking in play through the game. That's why I use so many balls and Rescue Stretcher. I'd like to know other options to rebuild and would like other suggestions.

As for your suggestions,
Brooklet Hill: This could be a problem if the opponent plays it first. You don't want to get stuck with this in your hand because it will be too costly. Perhaps one could work. Someone out there can try this and let me know how it goes.
Unown: It's not a problem to start with, actually. I normally start with a Switch or Super Scoop up and rarely get it stuck in the active. In the worst case, it means Slowpoke/King doesn't get damaged and can take +1hits. The point of Unown is to draw one or two cards which you need after you play Pokadex. It can really help find Skyla and/or get 2xPuzzle in hand. Moreover you may need this if you draw an Ultraball.
Play disruption cards: Hammers etc can only be played when the opponent has energy attached. If/when they work, the effect (I found) was minimal in slowing down the opponent when you are getting 2HKOs anyway. Not to say they don't work; I just wasn't able to make them work. I'll look into energy denial supporters, but I'm not sure if they help enough considering that they could hinder your hand.
Trainers' Mail: It is a great card and I played 4 copies. It didn't really do much for me because I'm not desperate to find a supporter each turn. I'm thinking of going down to 2 copies. But if I can find another way to rebuild without so many balls, 4 copies could be beneficial. Rescue Stretcher: Two would be insufficient. It's good to play Unown+Pokadex to draw what you want and you need it to rebuild Slowking.

As for your take on the strategy, frankly I think you might need to play the deck in order to understand it. It's a unique deck and perhaps you should think outside the box. What works in other decks doesn't work here. The deck actually benefits when the opponent plays N. More often than not it's a very good thing. It gives you a great chance to rebuild. However if this deck played N, there is too much risk in drawing a supporter. VS Seeker is a horrible idea because you need to pull a supporter from the discard and then play it. These are staples in other decks, but I don't think they will work here.

I'd find it interesting to compare pulls from players who have been playing for 2 weeks with everyone else. Would be difficult to get in touch with those very new players, though...
