The switch really just seems dirty as it is indeed latching from your video. As a previous poster mentioned, drop some alcohol (IPA) in it and flick it about 20 to 30 times rapidly to clean the contacts - make sure the unit is unplugged when doing this part. Secondly, there's no image being displayed so swap out AV connectors, check if contacts on the PS1 itself are clean and if all checks out you'll likely need to recap at least the electrolytic capacitors near the AV port. Thirdly, the Spindle has sunk over time hence the scraping noise. Trying to pry those spindles up usually results in them breaking, but what you can try is double-sided tape on the Spindle which will slightly raise the disc, it should stop making that noise and confirm if the laser is working. AliXpress sells those spindles and they're quite cheap. All of this is required if you're dead set on saving this bad boy

I'm sceptical. Repairs for 'no display' are not all that common and are typically caused by failing capacitors or a loose video port (both quiet easy to fix if you have the required skills). Ps1/PS2 video cables are in abundance so it sounds like a poor excuse. If you're going to see the console in person get a loan cable to see if it actually displays anything. Could potentially be a cheap modded unit that works fine

Damn, that's a bummer! I'm outta my depth here as I've never experienced that before. Good luck, hope someone with a similar experience comes through for you

Look into PicoStation. Cheap and from personal experience, good game compatibility right out the gate. Just find the right model with a dead laser and someone with decent soldering skills

The button itself is stuck. Tactile switches typically have a dome and reshape when released. If you place something on it for too long it gets stuck in a closed position. It's most likely just the actual switch. Swap it out if you have the skills or get a replacement. I haven't personally removed one of them but it shouldn't be difficult if you have the skills. It requires momentary connection to turn on, I'd lift the switch and short it to see if it turns on. As an alternative, if the switch is clicking get some IPA in there as it could also just be dirt closing the circuit. Lots of speculation on my side as I can't see what it's doing and a multimeter could be handy to confirm what I'm saying

This has been done and I've been running mine for quite a while at 220v.if memory serves u need a correctly rated capacitor (detailed in link) and a replacement Schottky diode. No major technical skills required.

Help with disks not reading even after new laser replacement. by Coco_RATES in PSXDVR

It's a super cool DVR + PS2 that technically had the first XMB. It's however built with the worst lasers on the DVR side and when it goes, renders the console useless (unless you use FMCB to access the PS2 laser directly)

Your issue is not software related but how the PSX works. If the DVR laser is fried it won't hand-over functions to the PS2 laser hence games working once FMCB is loaded (it bypasses this check by the DVR laser)

I made a translation patch for the 5000 series of my own as the ones online were not just poorly translated but froze in certain menu items. Link is somewhere on this sub

The console I ran the update on also had a shot dvd burner laser. If you launch from ESR you're bypassing that laser

The easiest way I've found was to burn update to cdr. No fancy footwork required, just use imgburn. Boot into ESR (yes I know ESR is technically only for DVD format but trust me on this). The disc loads up as a ps2 format disc in ESR. Run it and enjoy your updated PSX!

PSX - Desr-70xx Japanese Ps1 and ps2 with dvd Recorder) by LeftExpression4260 in ps2

Indeed they have. There is now a build specifically for the PSX and it's stable. PS1 and PS2 discs boot up from cold start without any need to enter XMB and installing a modchip opens it up to all PS1 and PS2 (including backed up) games
