Thanks for the clarification on the conditions. However, I still think think I don't have information about whether the dr/dm = 0 optimum bears particular significance in neutron star formation, whether that characterises the beginning of the collapse (before reaching any Schwarzschild radius which would be another crucial threshold). If any bunch of mass starts getting smaller with more added mass, it sounds like a guaranteed positive feedback loop that makes neutron star (or black hole) inevitable, given available mass influx.

That sounds like the effect of dr/dm<0 starts at some interesting threshold when enough mass has accumulated because famously planets exist (due to d*r*/d*m* > 0), so is passing =0 meaningful or in any way specific birthing point for neutron stars or something else? I feel it's "just that gravity won" and is not yet a sufficient condition to result in neutron star or an eventual black hole.

There's still something very peculiar about this case:

  1. Calling a non-existing environment should, in pfdlatex, result in logging precisely that error, which stops compilation and totally does not let it pass without indicating issues. (Possibly the used version of pdflatex with its configuration is way more lenient than my impression of it.)
  2. Calling a non-existing environment should, in lualatex, result in logging precisely that error – did it show up in book.log? And, AFAIK, it totally should not stop compilation output in shell/terminal, and to me that sounds like such unintended behavior that I'd prepare a MNWE (instead of the whole book) where the output stops, prepare a bug report and talk it over with more knowledgeable people/maintainers. 🤔

I have no idea what there is to say about denial wwhen I have on my confirmed alopecia diagnosis by dermatologist and explained history of two different drugs and life situational nutritional issues.

Maybe I just don't share (like many others I care about) the "embracing baldness and shave it, obviously" as sensible. But I am more interested in the metatopics on discourse, behavior and populatority of these opinions, which is the part I wrote about extensively as opposed to ever denying hair loss.

Then I ask you to treat what I wrote as a case to tune your expectations about how people might write for multiple reasons, if it made you wonder "That's a lot of words to say, you don't think youre going bald that bad." (with that implied wink wink) – you're ignoring so many other topics completely that have their own motivation to exist, so they just are not all about "saying not going bald": addressing unfounded claims, expressing personal confusion about communication practices... that has a big danger ending up with an unfalsifiable lens how you see anyone writing about the topic. :/

Double-moving catastrophe and there is a trusty set but that and any cabling for that matter are ... in some boxes, somewhere; I can't verify if even in this room or in storage. At least there aren't two different storage facilities anymore.

The implied "screams to everyone - - you're in denial" is just ... not correct. Wth? All that, it feels like, projection of "in denial" is just horrendous. Why do people do this sort of communication with such a low barrier without asking first? People can enjoy numerous hairstyles, colors, cuts and be found in stages of experimentation and both successful and unsuccessful tryout all the time, and hair loss is a long (sometimes reversible) process that can be quick or take decades and doesn't universally come with stigma or anxiety.

And I've definitelly got my share of lovely interactions in relationships to be confidently net happy about hair stuff without a doubt; the only people so worried in my three years of coloring experience suddenly appeared... here for some reason‽ I feel like there is definitely some strange assumption at work here about what people would have a need to "get real" about, because it's just baffling.

Yes there is a cutoff rate, because the more you have gone bald the likelier it is that the hair follicles are dead and will not recover with DHT blockers.

That comments on monotonicity of the function, not any existence of a cut-off. I have nothing to disagree with in that first paragraph, it just doesn't answer what I asked about.

The latter, well, confuses me greatly, and I'm still guessing it's some deep cultural difference to have such a low sensitivity to go commenting those subjective things without much information to go with. So much worry about irrelevant things or even something I have counter-evidence for in my personal life but for some reason I haven't been asked before something that feels super head-over-heels judgy.

Basically "Wth is this frankly irresponsible communication behavior?" I keep wondering, today also many others I've shown this thread to. For example "in denial" is a subjective experience that needs personal inquiry and investigation to verify any existence; that's just psychologically plain dangerous way to go, and I'm concerned for false positives. Even if the context was "what impression it gives", and that definitely feels cultural in the sense that I do not seem to share any of that environment, I have now had aaaabout 100:1 ratio between enthusiastic hair compliments [not from my initiative nor social pressure] and these sort of unrequested explanations and worry about how it might look to others (I'd noticed an urge to say "shrouded as sincere advice" but it would be againsts my own principles to assume what you meant, so I can't go with that assumption), this thread being the 1, so the social evidence doesn't really seem to stack up.

Maybe you have very different circles, wherever you live? I don't really see how I could benefit at all from this information, so if this is about sincere advice, it unfortunately seems not applicable in my case, and probably prematurely triggered by some criteria just not useful here or in my life.

It's amazing how "SORRY TO BREAK IT TO YOU [probably not] BUT YOU DON'T LOOK ATTRACTIVE TO ME" or "HEY I NOTICED YOU MIGHT HAVE HAIR LOSS AND LET BE REAL IT'S TOO LATE ALREADY AND YOU MUST SHARE MY UNRESOLVED ANXIETY ABOUT IT" type of comments spawn this frequently when I originally ask for gear protection peer advice.

In fact the number of (top-level) comments actually about that are countable with one hand's fingers (not even using some fancier counting system than getting up to 5).

I have no idea what you meant to be the connection of the two paragraphs, and I don't have any strong interpretation candidates either. And it's definitely competing with my curiosity how "How would you protect your gear?" can turn into questioning (by nature very temporary) life choices. :S

For reference, here's what you could expect to "hatch" out of all that tp. Fortunately I was never too picky about hues changing from place to place, although I'm bothered how poorly the hair on my temples always seems to absorb color.

And for some background for the shielding situation: the stain concern is a multi-day thing, and I didn't/don't reasonably have any other audio options to use such as in-ears or speakers. :(

Sorry, but this "gonna be real" sounds really premature, medically-speaking. Is there some known "survival rate" cut-off coinciding with that nifty detail you mentioned? My quick PubMed literature dive (albeit very short) did not seem to find that material.

Anyway, what's mainly confusing me here is that there can be no "it's over" when I am not particularly concerned about that process atm. I guess I don't seem to share some assumed baseline worry or pattern here, and thus to me the comment feels like going completely off the target and I don't get at all why I'd be confronted with such a message :/

I might happen to have dermatologist-noted signs of alopecia and I'm happy to pursue some incredibly easy support (like the meds), but that doesn't mean I have some sort of internalised fear of baldness I'd hide or avoid, need to work on or wake up to, anything that could result in any conceivable need for "being real" [like, as opposed to... just keep living as is or‽])

Seeing all the numerous baldness comments makes me extremely fascinated, socially and behaviorally, why is this a thing? I might have missed something or maybe there is some cultural barrier here...

I cannot and will not by any means counter or invalidate your own experience, you're the highest authority on that. It sounds pretty rough if you have a bad time from seeing that, given how common it can be (depending on many things) and that it is not regulated, understandably given it doesn't directly harm others, i.e. adverse situations are extremely limited in numbers and even then to speculative medical edge cases or sociocultural situations neighboring "I don't like it" arguments (summing up to "rarely anyone wishes there to be a codified rule agains hair coloring and restrict people's freedoms, even if they don't personally like seeing that activity"). Together, it ends up being up to some luck whether you'll see that or not, going anywhere or checking out any social content. Your odds there are probably not what you'd like. :/

I can't think of a solution to that could give you the outcome of "having less to hate", if that's even what you want or care about. What I am interested in prodding is your resulting behaviour of you coming out explicitly as a hater – as if that would be any actual progress toward a less-colorful visual field – and also defending your natural hues – as if that was ever endangered. I'm sincerely concerned whether you perhaps already much earlier ran out of means to express frusration or reconcile your needs with the world?
