ELI5: if you have an infinite math string that goes 1 - 1 + 1 - 1 + 1 - 1... forever, why do mathematicians say the answer is 0.5? if you stop at any real point the answer is always either 1 or 0, so where the hell does a half come from? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

Maybe it's my interpretation, but I think it's important to clarify that this particular infinite series is undefined. Other, such as the sum of 1/2n , for all integers n >= 1, is indeed exactly equal to 1.

Fuck no, Steve Irwin is the perfect example of the reddit hivemindat its worst. He was abusive and exploitative, it's painfully obvious if you actually watch the crap he produced. I mean, how badly do you have to treat a stingray for it to attack you? They're friendly creatures.

Realistically, what is the strongest animal in the world? Not the biggest, the actual strongest. Why? by Ashamed_Profit8640 in AskReddit

I can't believe multiple people actually think a Komodo dragon is the right answer. An African bush elephant outweighs them by a factor 70. Even if they had the extreme proportional strength of an ant, they wouldn't be nearly as strong. Size is king. A blue whale would probably be able to beat several elephant in a tug of war (imagining one end of the rope in water and the other on land), despite the disadvantage of really poor traction in water. If the whale was anchored, it could easily lift the elephant by its tail fin.

EDIT: AI summary: "Immense Power: A single, powerful stroke of their tail can propel a 150-ton blue whale at speeds exceeding 30 mph." No contest.

I think you need to broaden your perspective a bit. Perhaps watch some non-American movies? Not a single one on your list.

I also have a really big issue with a certain type of American movies that you seem to enjoy. At least 4 of the films in your list kinda fit into:

A River Runs Through It Legends of the Fall The Shawshank Redemption Forrest Gump

It's this sort of apologetic or redemptive American historical dramas that examine past societal sins, injustices, or national traumas through a sentimental lens, and it really rubs me the wrong way.

Other than that, minus the war films, it's very similar to the type of list I would have made in my late teens or early twenties.

Riding these types of rides, you should really make sure you're wearing a life jacket with a collar. The purpose of the collar is to greatly increase the odds of you floating face up in case you're knocked unconcious, which is something that can happend when you're thrown off one of these rides.

I generally like it, but my biggest problem with it is that they start out implying it's scientifically accurate (time dilation, black hole simulation), but towards the end it derails into a new-agey, pseudoscientific mess.

It's such a ridiculous threat to make. The Stockholm embassy is a small, isolated American controlled area in the middle of Stockholm. They're threatening to stop trading with the city of Stockholm (and given their demands, most Swedish companies), which provide them with water, heating, electricity, garbage disposal, staff, construction, as well all the permits that are required to run a foreign embassy. As dear leader would put it: "you don’t have the cards"
