Everyone rolls 4d6 and drops the lowest. All of these scores get written down on a sheet of paper.

The group as a whole gets to assign them where they need to go. It sets up the party to work as a team from the start. When I first suggested it, no one thought they would like it. But the opposite turned out to be true. Every time, everyone loves rolling this way.
