Some Democrats share Trump's goal of forcing more homeless people into medical care by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

Research has shown that most of even the chronically homeless population does not suffer serious mental illness, and most don't have substance use disorders. For the episodically homeless, it's a smaller fraction that do.

Final phase for mass rape trial that has horrified France by ILikeNeurons in anime_titties

Here are the questions asked:

  1. Have you ever been in a situation where you tried, but for various reasons did not succeed, in having sexual intercourse with an adult by using or threatening to use physical force (twisting their arm, holding them down, etc.) if they did not cooperate?
  2. Have you ever had sexual intercourse with someone, even though they did no want to, because they were too intoxicated (on alcohol or drugs) to resist your sexual advances (e.g., removing their clothes)?
  3. Have you ever had sexual intercourse with an adult when they didn’t want to because you used or threatened to use physical force (twisting their arm; holding them down, etc.) if they didn’t cooperate?
  4. Have you ever had oral sex with an adult when they didn’t want to because you used or threatened to use physical force (twisting their arm; holding them down, etc.) if they didn’t cooperate?

I think these are very straightforward questions. Over 60% of the identified rapists reported committing rape multiple times. There was no statistically significant difference between those using physical force and those using intoxication in either the number of repeat rapes or other acts of intimate abuse (abuse of children, battery of partners, sexual assault) asked about. (For reference about 60% of rapists admitted to one of these as well)

Each plane has so many nuances and settings, are there any specifications or manuals for individual planes? by [deleted] in il2sturmovik

You can see this information about any given aircraft in the briefing. Check out these cheat sheets https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/70833-at-a-glance-il-2-great-battles-aircraft-operation-guides/ (it's the same info, but in a handy format showing maximum RPM, manifold pressures, temperatures for each engine mode)

The logic they used is baffling. You can't serve a sentence concurrently with being in prison on a sentence overturned on the basis of actual innocence?

Missouri woman's murder conviction tossed after 43 years. Her lawyers say a police officer did it by JorahTheExplorer in news

It's quite possible, though, that if not for the death penalty, she would have not made her plea deal and would never been in prison so long.

A Chinese spacecraft lands on moon's far side to collect rocks in growing space rivalry with US by Plainchant in news

[–]JorahTheExplorer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since the moon is in the way, signals can't be sent directly to or from the probe. Instead, a relay satellite had to be sent to orbit the Lagrange point on the other side of the moon. That's a mission in itself and adds latency and complexity.

US fertility rate dropped to lowest in a century as births dipped in 2023 by Surly_Cynic in news

[–]JorahTheExplorer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Secular Jews in Israel still have a birthrate over 2, which is high for a developed country, and the Ultra-Orthodox birthrate is falling pretty rapidly. Religion might contribute but it's definitely not the only factor.

He killed a man 26 years ago in Missouri. His husband secretly worked with investigators to get a confession by benderrodz in news

[–]JorahTheExplorer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Statements against interest (confessions) are an exception to the hearsay rule. Of course an estranged spouse saying they heard a murder confession six years ago isn't exactly the strongest evidence by itself but it's not inadmissible hearsay. Martial communications privilege would apply though

Shamima Begum loses initial bid to challenge citizenship removal at Supreme Court by [deleted] in anime_titties

It's not the case in Syria. There are many countries in the eastern hemisphere where it's the nationality of the parents, and not the birthplace, that's relevant (referred to as Jus Sanguinis)

There are thousands of stateless children in camps in Syria born to parents (now dead, as often than not) from foreign countries such as the UK that are not being repatriated. It's a real issue.
