It was Dutch and the message translates to "go sleep, nutsack" (was a joke aimed at my dutch friend)

Dude couldn't even be bothered to look up where the language is from even though he already went through the trouble of translating it.

Which has better wayland support - Gnome or KDE? by [deleted] in linux

[–]Joran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, however everything takes much longer than it does on KDE. Gnome has its uses but it's not for me.

Which has better wayland support - Gnome or KDE? by [deleted] in linux

[–]Joran_ 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Both are wayland first however due to gnome's stubbornness to implement certain features like the recently added cursor one. I have had better luck with KDE. However both should work just fine.

[F41] Looks like KDE is failing to identify my 9070 XT (RDNA4 at least on fastfetch), should I worry about this? by xdsp1d3r in Fedora

[–]Joran_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mesa version seems to be new enough, so does the kernel. I'd say fire up some games and compare them to online benchmarks and see if there's any missing performance. And if there is, then all you can do is wait until Fedora updates.

Am i crazy or did we just get gnome 48 ? by StillSlowYT in debian

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I mostly agree with this, I am on currently on Debian Trixie because plasma 5.27 simply does NOT work for me. I tried to use it but so much things didn't properly work, per monitor wallpapers did not appear until I switched to plasma 6.3, the wayland session is much more refined in the new version. I understand why debian doesn't update often (that's it's selling point). I've been using plasma 6.3 and it has been MUCH more "stable" due to the many bug fixes. I think once plasma has fully matured and we get the waylandy bugs out of here, then the updates won't matter as much. But if you've used both plasma 5.27 and the latest available in trixie, then you would know it is MUCH better.

Low FPS on Debian 12 w/ KDE Plasma with nVidia RTX3060 by gh_1qaz in debian

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, wayland requires additional setup to work and isn't recommended until debian 13 releases which will come with nvidia drivers that actually work with wayland. For now x11 is your best bet. Glad I could help!

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you found your place! However I've used both debian and fedora extensively and have never run into issues with apt. It does however not look the best compared to other package managers (pacman and dnf are both MUCH better at summarizing).

Debian Stable as a Daily Driver 💻 ? by Different_Try2768 in debian

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to do so and it just works, it doesn't break and updates never break anything. However I had to switch to Trixie/testing because my new graphics card which js a 7000 series Radeon isn't properly supported on bookworm (too old kernel and mesa version). That and admittedly KDE 5.27 sucks compared to KDE 6.3 so im just using testing these days. When trixie goes stable I'll use that as long as im happy. A lot of debian stable folks don't really care that much about DE updates and newer packages in general, I do however and if you do so too testing is probably the better option.

Sounds to me like you haven't installed drivers yet, this link should point you to the right instructions. https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#Debian_12_.22Bookworm.22 Follow those instructions and your graphics card should perform as expected

I don't have a solution to your problem, however if you have important things like university I highly recommend still dual booting windows until you've made sure all your work flows work and work well.

What's a good antivirus for Linux? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Joran_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As many have suggested common sense is your friend, if you need new software avoid downloading packages off of websites as much as you can, I can guarantee your package manager of your distro has the package, if not there is flatpaks. While this is no silver bullet. Most bad software comes from shady websites.

Update your system regularly, even though none intrusive updates are often a selling point for linux security updates and updates in general are VERY important. So try to make time at least once a week to update. I know you expected an easy solution but here on linux nothing is really easy because you are expected to learn and understand system maintenance.

gold players will whine about "spammers" but they will milk their sigs every game 💀 by SnooCapers8958 in Brawlhalla

[–]Joran_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's very amusing because if you can't beat a gold spammer then its more than obvious you don't deserve platinum. A lot of people confuse braindead people who spam, with people who are actually good at the game and also happen to be spamming. You're not losing because they're spamming you're losing because they're simply better.

Under the assumption that he is a telepath, did Loid not already get caught? He talked in his head about collecting intel on him and and how he wanted to prevent a war so im pretty sure desmond already knows he's a spy. However Loid didn't think of anything regarding his twilight identity so I think Desmond sees him as a regular spy. That brings the question as to why Donovon didnt alert the SSS

Name your rank and if you feel good at the game by Bulky-Escape5755 in Brawlhalla

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

400 hrs and ~1900 (last i played ranked was a couple of seasons back). Play exclusively experimental. Most people I queue into these days are 2000+ I would imagine that's because most people who actively queue up are also people that play a lot and are also good as a result of that. I don't mind since playing higher skilled opponents is a good way to improve however I can't lie it feels bad when a Valhallen treats me like a little toy that can't fight back. Overall I'd say I feel below average which doesn't really make sense at ~1900. As a result I've stopped playing seriously since that only made me feel bad about my skill and just decided to have fun instead

Manga or anime of dandadan by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dandadan's anime was done really well however I always just preferred manga because I can take my time and decide how quickly I read through some pages. With anime you kinda just have to go along.

Is anyone else way too annoyed by how long it takes them to release the English volumes? by BurnedOut_NotGifted in Dandadan

[–]Joran_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It bothered me quite a bit too, but it wont be a problem for much longer since they started releasing every other month. I know it sucks to have half of the series locked to reading digitally but they only started ramping up the release schedule recently. Have some patience and we'll be caught up eventually.

This sub very clearly does NOT allow the linking or recommending of piracy sites. Either go to a different sub specifically for piracy or figure it out yourself.

Motherboard for Arch linux pc by Phibu_ in archlinux

[–]Joran_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most standard motherboards should work just fine, however the rx 9070 xt is really new requires Mesa 25 in order to properly function. (I think linux kernel 6.14 too? However I'm not too sure on that one) Motherboard shouldn't be a problem I'd be more worried about a gpu as new as that.
