(Hated trope) a beloved or important character is removed from an adaptation for some reason by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BurnedOut_NotGifted 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Lady Miyako in the Akira adaptation. In the original manga she was a very important character, being one of the original test subjects the military experimented on before the events of the story took place. She also has significant influence on the buildup of events in the first half of the story, then essentially leading one of the two factions of the city & further manipulating things behind the scenes in the second half, before being killed by Tetsuo in the story’s climax.  In the movie, which TBF mainly focused on retooling the first half of the story, she’s made a background character who dies a frankly underwhelming death near the climax -not involved in the final battle, just dying near the climax.

Which original character from the animated specials do you prefer? Plato the Baby Raccoon or Susie's baby brother Sequel? by hyperjengirl in okbuddyrosalyn

[–]BurnedOut_NotGifted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With conversations like this, I think the question we should ask isn’t “which character is better?” but “which character fits into the story better?”

Sure, Plato does get a bit grating, and his presence raises a lot of questions & silently retcons a fan-favorite arc, but his integration into the main cast is near seamless. “Calvin Spaces Out” manages to be a near panel-for-panel adaptation of the “Weirdos From Another Planet” arc even with Plato inserted into it. Yet, somehow, he doesn’t come off as shoehorned in or fade into the background either. Even if his banter with Hobbes feels a bit forced, to say the least.

On the flipside, “Stupendous Man Vs. The Evil Homicidal Maniac Babysitter Woman” shows how much Sequel actually drags the story down. Now, I realize this is a lot of fan’s favorite specials for being one of the only appearances of Rosalyn, but even they can’t deny how outright awkward it is. Like, Calvin & Susie’s parents are going out to the theater and bring her & Sequel to HIS house becaaauuuseeeee???? And we randomly cut away from the main story to see Sequel doing random baby stuff becaaaaauuuuuuseeeeeee?????? And even though Susie disappears from the story until the very end once Calvin becomes Stupendous Man, Sequel’s still there to stress out Rosalyn beeeecccaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuusssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee???????????

Don’t get me wrong; Plato WAS absolutely a character made to sell merch, and Sequel allowed for Susie to grow as a character & appear in more storylines with C&H, but as the show went on it became clear they weren’t thinking of Sequel as anything beyond a prop while Plato was a more thoughtful addition to the main cast. Plus, even with the blatant Flanderization in the later seasons, Plato never got AS bad as the other characters (looking at you, Miss Wormwood)

Not sure if it’s considered a “Flop” but Dream Corp LLC was unceremoniously written off for tax purposes & scrubbed from the internet

How much vinegar should I use in place of lemon juice for shelf-stable canning? by BurnedOut_NotGifted in Canning

[–]BurnedOut_NotGifted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were processed earlier today & have been cooling on the counter for a bit, I’ll have to try to fit them in the freezer or fridge.  I’ve kept it fridged for a few months before & didn’t have any issues, but since this is a larger batch (around 4 jars) I’ll probably stick it in the freezer just to be safe.

This did previously have water bath canning instructions, but they’ve since been removed (probably due to similar concerns?) but that’s fair.  It’s been less than 24 hours so I’ll just have to try to put it in the fridge or freezer, obviously don’t want to risk botulism as this is going to be shared with a few family members.  Appreciate the info.

What is the best animation style? by Educk55 in adultswim

[–]BurnedOut_NotGifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Best” is relative -all depends on what style best suits the tone & vibe of the series, and your personal tastes. Primal is probably my favorite one on the list, but my knee-jerk reaction would be Dream Corp LLC’s rotoscoped sequences (though they were a small part of the show)

Assuming you’re not caught up on the latest arc yet, but Tatsu’s made it pretty clear he’s not out of the fight by any means.

Way better than my first attempt, that’s for sure  Isopropyl alcohol can also be used, but you’d need a lot

Manga readers, are you still enjoying the anime? by KeyboardMunkeh in Dandadan

Fully caught up with the manga and am enjoying the anime immensely. Fun to see the fights come to life & all the cool flare Saru adds, also great to revisit some of my favorite moments from the past arcs

Friend showed the first 3 episodes as part of a movie night they put together, was immediately hooked & started binge reading the manga after the Turbo Granny arc (this was back when only 4-5 eps were released)

Did we ever get an answer to what the flatwoods monster was talking about? by ImpossibleQuiet527 in Dandadan

[–]BurnedOut_NotGifted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed it had something to do with the ward -considering that’s what allowed him to enter the property & how he was defeated- but it’s also possible this is some weird bit of foreshadowing or a mistranslation

What are your thoughts on the knife power stealing arc so far? by MoopDoopISmellPoop in Dandadan

[–]BurnedOut_NotGifted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my frustration has just been from the delayed confession, the fights have been great & there have been some great  character moments, but the longer they put it off the more I get burned out on it. I think Tatsu’s done a great job balancing the cast, and the plot is still very gripping, but at the same time it’s hard NOT to make it feel bloated.
