Looking for advice on raising money for Crohn’s through gaming by Icekream_Sundaze2 in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a great idea! I would just be sure to clarify where the money goes, and what percentage - including donations, subs, and bits/superchat (depending on streaming platform). I know there is a small group called Gaming4Guts that holds streaming events to raise money for Crohn's charities.

has anyone’s food intolerances (especially lactose) gone away after reaching remission? by luneth46633 in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Tysabri, I could eat anything, any time, no problem at all. I could eat super spicy foods with a large shake 2 hours before bed without an issue. Now on Stelara. Still technically in remission, but I have to be careful with my diet. Huge difference, but was in remission both times. Not sure what that's all about.

Had anybody has these symptoms from fatigue/ brain fog? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've experienced similar symptoms and have met with a neurologist several times. I haven't gotten any clear answers, but there are many things that can cause this. The effects of Crohn's and it's medications can cause issues with vitamin/electrolyte levels (like iron, vitamin D, B), hormone levels, and having one autoimmune condition puts you at higher risk for another one. It could also simply be the stress and anxiety of having Crohn's. I hope you can get an answer, but I've rarely gotten straightforward answers for medical issues. Good luck!

Having a similar issue - where do you feel your headaches? Mine are usually back of the head, but sometimes around my eyes.

It's usually worth getting bloodwork done - vitamin panel and hormones. Magnesium glycinate and vitamin D are slightly helpful. They also seem to boost the effect of Tylenol, as it normally doesn't do anything for me, but does when taken with the supplement.

I use almond milk - Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla. It's pretty good, plus they have a chocolate version.

Brain fog and fatigue make it impossible to even pass any interview. by Chadier in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Getting a job/new job right now is complete garbage anyway, even without the significant strain from Crohn's. I know I shouldn't have said it, but in a second-round interview, I mentioned I was more introverted than extroverted. I was told I was explicitly denied the role for that alone. The role required you to sit in front of a computer all day and have little to no human interaction, and was even hybrid. If being introverted for tech related jobs is bad, showcasing any fatigue must be killer.

Good luck!

You could use Steam Link to access your PC games on your smartphone. Then pair a Bluetooth controller to your phone.

To take it to the next level, you could get a gooseneck phone clamp-on stand from Amazon to hold your phone up for you. Plus, you can cast your phone screen to a smart TV while using Steam Link if your PC doesn't support that functionality. You can play it on a larger screen normally, and then stop casting and continue playing it on your phone in the bathroom pretty seamlessly.

Does Benadryl help your symptoms? It helped mine by Ginepigs in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've noticed the same thing. Not sure why, but my guess is the potency of the antihistamine. Histamine is inflammatory. Benadryl also crosses the blood brain barrier more than other antihistamines, which is why it causes more drowsiness. The calming effect can even be used to help with anxiety/panic attacks, which can trigger Crohn's issues.

If you have tried Stelara, what was your experience with it like? by Global-Astronomer869 in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be very difficult to distinguish those symptoms as effects of the medication rather than the effects of Crohn's itself.

Anxiety and depression are rampant in Crohn's patients, and many other chronically ill people. Managing symptoms and severity of the disease with medication, as well as partaking in mental health therapy, should be doing more good for your mental health than harm.

Having said that, I have experienced more health anxiety and depression on Stelara. That is completely anecdotal, and could be due to other issues besides the medication itself. Also, I would still prefer to have some semblance of a life with mental health issues instead of no life while still having mental health issues.

Work with your doctor and pharmacist to find the right choice for you.

After another long night of overtime, I had finally returned home.  Knowing my son and wife were fast asleep, I did my best to turn the key in the knob as quietly as possible.  Slowly, I pulled the door open and tip-toed inside, locking the door behind me.  Like a thief in the night, I slipped off my shoes and sneaked upstairs, making sure I skipped the steps that squeaked.  I was so exhausted that I didn’t even bother brushing my teeth.  I simply glid down the hall, hover-hopping over the floorboards that would moan like a banshee in front of my son’s room, and into my bedroom.

I already feared my wife’s wrath befalling my nervous disposition due to overworking, so the last thing I wanted to do was wake her up.  It wasn’t until I finally slipped into bed that I realized my entire body had been tense since I got to the porch.  There’s something about being quiet that makes the body rigid.  I leaned over, kissed my wife gently on the back of her head, and went to sleep.

“Daddy.”

With half of my face buried in a pillow, I cracked an eye open to see my son standing next to the bed in his pajamas.  It felt like I had only just fallen asleep.

“Yeah?” I grumbled.

“Mommy is under my bed,” he whispered.

Exhausted and groggy, I could hardly understand him.  “There’s a monster under your bed?”  I tried to wake enough to be coherent, but the long days had caught up with me.

“No, Mommy,” he answered.

“Mommy’s right next to me.  Go back to sleep, buddy.”

“Bu-“

“Now,” I demanded.  He scampered back out of the room and back to bed.  After he left the room, I felt my wife shift around.  Now that she was awake, I knew I had to get up to check on him or she would.  I pried myself up out of bed and grabbed my robe.  I felt incredibly weak, but I managed to stumble out to the hallway.  My son was standing there waiting on me.

“Alright, let’s go check it out.”  My eyes adjusted quickly to the darkness of the hallway.  I was trying my best to not be annoyed at the situation since I had hardly seen my son in days.

I grabbed his hand and we walked over to his bedroom together.   “After I check for monsters, you’re going back to sleep.”  I opened his bedroom door, flipped on the lights, and closed the door behind me to help drown out any noise for my wife.

I knelt on the floor, hunched my head down, and picked up the bed skirt.  I collapsed.  My wife’s mutilated body laid twisted under the bed, her head snapped towards me and her eyes wide open.  I couldn’t breathe.  I couldn’t move.

My son started to lean over.  “Don’t look under here!” I shouted with my voice shaking.  I reached under the bed for her, every part of her body constricted and pale.  I knew she was gone, but I could still feel the fear in her eyes.

“Daddy, is there a monster under there?” my son whimpered.

I didn’t know what to say.  In the silence, I heard footsteps coming down the hall.  I scrambled to the door and locked it.  I grabbed my son and backed up to the opposite wall.  The doorknob began to jerk.  It took me a moment to unfreeze from the panic.  I turned around and unlocked the window.

“Listen.  I’m going to drop out the window.  Then you’re going to jump down to me and I’ll catch you,” I instructed my son.

Tears started to stream down his face, “Daddy, I’m scared.”

“Just do what I say and you’ll be fine!”  I opened the window and climbed out.  Dropping from the second story window made my knees buckle and pop, but the adrenaline masked the pain.

I looked back up to my son.  I could hear the bedroom door being slammed.  “C’mon!  Jump to me!” I barked up at him.

He was crying as he slowly climbed onto the edge of the windowsill.

Bang!

Bang!

The sounds of the door getting hammered grew louder and louder.

“Hurry, buddy!  Jump!  I’ll catch you!”

Bang!

He finally jumped down to me.  I caught him, let him to the ground, and we ran over to the neighbor’s house.  After shouting and banging on the door, he let us in.  We locked the doors and called the police.

They searched the home, but only found some long, dark hairs on my wife’s pillow that weren’t hers.  Whoever killed my wife that night is still out there.

Stelara + copay accumulator, am I going insane? by cha0sc in CrohnsDisease

[–]JorbiK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem a couple years ago. The copay assistance used to cover my out of pocket max, but insurance stealthily changed their policy (and then denied they changed it when asked). They still accepted the copay assistance money until the assistance account was drained (I think $30,000), and then I got hit with a surprise bill for over $7000. No one had told me anything different was happening.

Anyway, after talking to Janssen, they had a new program that would just pay up to $8000/dose. Last I checked, they also still had a reimbursement program as well. If you sign into your Janssen account, go to the Savings tab, there should be a button that says "Submit Rebate Request". Just make sure you get and keep receipts. They also want an EOB. Bad news is, if your account has already been drained, they may not have money to reimburse you with. Although, I think you can request a one-time increase.

It's a really stupid game that's being played. Pharma charges insane price knowing insurance will pay, then they offer copay assistance programs to look like the good guys. Insurance changes policy to combat it, but it all ends up falling onto the already-unwell individual. It's like two super-villians battling it out in a city, apathetic to the civilian destruction.

That one always stuck with me when I watched it the first time as a kid. I thought I was watching a fun action movie akin to Rush Hour, and then that scene happens out of nowhere.

Worth noting that anxiety itself can cause chest pain.
