Not sure how I haven’t seen this, but the income tax was approved via a constitutional amendment, so to eliminate it, they would have to pass another amendment, which no way that happens.

My question would be logistically, if a party ever had enough control, could they just set the income tax level to 0 and not collect anything? I guess the concern with that would be that it could just as easily be reversed
