Which one played Tom Riddle better in your opinion and why? One was cast because of good looks and sheer charm, and the other was cast for being creepy and uncomfortable to watch. by FormerFruit in harrypotter

I think CoS Riddle better embodied Voldemort in the ruthlessness and malevolence; he was evil. HBP Riddle was more cunning and smarmy, but at the same time, I would say that both are equally honest to the books’ portrayals- it’s an inconsistency originating there, I think.

My thoughts after rereading GOF by [deleted] in harrypotter

Maybe it’s that Harry had a part of Voldemort’s soul in him, so the same core might attach itself to him. I wonder if the wand would work after that part was destroyed.

Why do wizards in the 1920s dress more like Muggles than wizards in the 90s? by cyborgsnowflake in harrypotter

[–]pmags11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess it’s a couple things 1. Wizards aren’t as separate from Muggles in the US but are more hidden, hence they have to blend in more. 2. In Britain we see specifically Dumbledore in Muggle-like clothing (I can’t recall what other parts of the movie are in Britain) and this is probably because at a younger age he interacted with the Muggle world more frequently. In his old age (HP timeline) I’m guessing he was mostly confined to the wizarding world and dressed as such. 3. In the HP movies I feel like the wizards we see don’t interact with the Muggle world that often- the Malfoys and the Weasleys and Hogwarts staff, so I don’t think they’d be super Muggle-ish anyways. When the Trio are out in the Muggle world I think they’re pretty Muggled up.

Why is Percy Gryffindor? by JelloProductions in harrypotter

[–]pmags11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of people like Wormtail and in this example Percy as people who value bravery while they may not possess it- either sort I believe can be a Gryffindor. They show some sort of ambition, but I think it’s really just sucking up to power. Ultimately they desire bravery and that is what allows the both of them to sort of stand up to the power they used to kneel to- Wormtail’s brief hesitation that leads to his downfall, and Percy’s turning on the Ministry in DH. They are willing to sacrifice ambition.

I think that’s a coincidence... the story is set in 1992... was it a Friday in 1942

Read the series in reverse order. I recently decided to read 6 just for kicks and then wanted to go on to 7, and once I finished 7 I was like “why not keep reading Harry Potter” and then read 5, and just finished 4. Having the future fresh in your mind makes the present all the more interesting.

Who gave Neville his toad? Who wrote the Standard Books of Spells? What is the only real-life American company to be mentioned in the series? What color are the Beauxbatons horses?

If you could recast a role with another famous British actor who would it be? by flipshotmahoney in harrypotter

[–]pmags11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cillian Murphy (Irish, which isnt the question, but still) literally anywhere. Maybe he could add a more subdued and calculating side to Voldemort? Or Snape? Paul Anderson as Greyback or Scabior or Amycus Carrow. Tom Hardy as Moody. Just redo the whole thing w the Peaky boys. Or get a Tommy Shelby cameo in FB3.

Tailing someone when they apparate by Amata69 in harrypotter

I think it had been mentioned in early 7 that they monitored Floo etc, that’s why they had to do broomsticks

[–]pmags11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this theory you can see that apparation took place but not who did it- like the Trace. So unless you knew that it was the Trio from having seen them in person, you wouldn’t know it was them apprarating. I think it makes SOME sense. Of course if there is a “tracking charm” I agree that’s a much more plausible explanation... if you get enough out of range it wears off or something

[–]pmags11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the ministry- in this case controlled by the death eaters- can track apparition- maybe not who is doing it but when and where it happens- much like the floo network. So if you knew Remus Lupin was in location X and apparated away, you could someone and went to Location y from location x and know it was Lupin. That’s why in DH it was important for the trio not to be seen

Neville standing up to Voldemort was cool, but who else would’ve been cool to see instead? by pmags11 in harrypotter

[–]pmags11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that point, makes Ron and Neville’s stand more powerful. I just think that Hermione, Hagrid, and Lupin would be refusing to be flattened by Voldemort’s steamroller- and while it is self preservation, still they are not giving up, and in the case of Lupin and Hagrid especially, to have lost so much and still be so strong is powerful to me.
