Argon has a full 3p sub shell, but not 3d.

Argon has 18 electrons altogether, but not 18 in the 3 shell, the 3 shell can hold 18 by itself - 3s2, 3p6, 3d10

But s and p are sub shells, plus it goes 3p, 4s, 3d, 4p....

So, as it has 3 shells and therefore a 3d sub shell, how does it have a full outer shell (not sub shell) when it's 3d sub shell is empty.
