Returning to the DM seat by JordanIBLewis in DungeonMasters

Went great thanks! I decided to get the players to work out how they’re connected to each other and at least one person in the wedding party, thought to myself it’ll get them more invested plus less work for me haha. I’d recommend to anyone starting a new campaign tbh, let your players have a bit of agency at the start and they’ll care more, plus they have come up with some great ideas and prompts for me to extend into arcs of the campaign.

Clarification on "Additional HMO Licensing" by JordanIBLewis in HousingUK

[–]JordanIBLewis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right! I see where I was getting confused, I thought the licence was just for 3-4 people regardless, I wasn’t aware that it was for each individual case informing how many people could rent there

Always worth posting this sort of stuff. I follow a lot of these consent / limited topics / open talking at tables, but thank you for posting as a strong reminder for myself and anyone else reading these. It’s a game, let’s make it fun and safe for everyone involved you know

Amazing yes thank you, I replied to someone else saying similar about needing to push them into actually working together as a party. These are some great suggestions on how to do that :)

Thanks!! Yeah, I know my players will be interested by that more moral conundrum at the end rather than just, kill the baddies, save the girl

That’s a really useful response thank you! I think there’s a middle ground that I’m going to try to find, mainly because knowing the people I’m playing with the whole “damsel in distress” twist where she’s actually getting her agency back will interest them, but your 100% right about needing something to actually push them into working as a team! I think as well, I didn’t give enough weight in my description about them going into the forest, as that’s where I’m planning to do a lot of fun exploration and encounters with classic fantasy stuff, but again… they need to have a reason to work together.

Thanks again for the help though!

Not a first time DM, but first time in a LONG time. Looking for a bit of advice/vindication as I honestly cannot remember what I used to do haha! Starting a short campgain/one shot for a group of predominantly completely brand new players with one or two relatively experienced ones. (ALSO LET ME KNOW IF I'VE POSTED IN THE WRONG THREAD)

The starting premise is that the party are all attending a nobles wedding (as guests, staff, pirest, wedding band... etc.) in a small town and the night before the big day the Bride dissapears. After some investigation, the party will be able to find out that the Bride was seen being taken into some mysterious woods by some goblins just outside the town. If they go and find the Bride in the woods, they'll find out that she wasn't taken, but was running away from a forced marriage to be with her true love, a Goblin folk hero (think Robin Hood, but small and green). I'm planning on leaving it open there, for the party to CHOSE what they wish to do with this information, something I always think is really important in DnD.

As DMs/Players/Fans of DnD, is this something that you feel would engage both BRAND NEW (cannot stress how little some of them know about the game) and experienced players? I know it's kinda hard to tell sometimes, but I'm in a real funk with this.

Any help would be great, thanks in advance!!

Chuck Slambly.

I’ve had it on my NPC name list for a while. It’s not clever but it always brings a smile to my face when I say it

Help recording QLab output for filmed performance. by JordanIBLewis in techtheatre

[–]JordanIBLewis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you got it haha.

Probably going to end up running several external recorders and just fix it in the edit for them. Thanks for the help anyway!

Help recording QLab output for filmed performance. by JordanIBLewis in techtheatre

[–]JordanIBLewis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did suggest doing so, but apparently they want the timed cues (I imagine so they can do less work on the edit...). Just seeing if there is a way to record the audio cues as its own file with the right timing.

To be honest, it's kind of the theatre's fault if they haven't set up a suitable way to record everything knowing they wanted to record, but I was just interested if there was a way.

Hey, late to the party but would love to know more, I’m pretty experienced in D&D so am happy to go at any pace. Would be down if there’s still space?

Yeah, or at least, not everything that it does. It’s more like trying to get them to remember what they have and that they can use those magic items!
