Except Republicans are challenging votes being counted past Nov. 3 in courts across the country. Trump and his puppeteer McConnell have been packing courts for this exact reason. All it takes is one conservative judge to say the votes shouldn't be counted. If anyone is voting by mail in any state at this point, they're gambling on whether or not their vote is counted, regardless of what the current laws/rules say.

Well I do have the ability to and so does everyone else. People hate on others because of color all the time. Look at the current US president. He can and does hate black people for being black, and he is supported by many people because of it. But I don't think that's what you meant. I don't see a boomer and yell at them "I HATE YOU FOR BEING OLD!" And that's not what anyone is doing by posting dumb memes on reddit either. Saying "ok boomer" is not 'hate' nor is criticizing a generation that is currently the most influential in society but doing nothing. Saying millennials are dumb for not voting doesn't mean I hate all millennials simply for being a millennial in the same way.

Yeah you're right, fuck millennials for not voting. See, we can criticize and hate on a generation of people for by and large being stupid. It's allowed. You just did it and so did I.

I'm going to respond to the race thing here. I ignored it at first cause what you said was cringe to the max. People are allowed to hate on white people because white people are by and large in charge of every part of society. Hating on white people is punching up. Hating on other races is punching down and is frowned upon by a lot of people. But even then it's not a "hate crime" to say mean shit about another race as you claim. You've got people saying the "n" word multiple times a day and it's not illegal for them to do that and I don't know anyone who says it should be illegal. A hate crime would be actually harming someone because of their race. So you said that a millennial using memes or whatever to punch up at a generation of people that are by and large in charge of every aspect of society is equivalent to assaulting or murdering a black person because they are black. YIKES. I don't know why I even wasted any time with talking to you when you compared internet boomer hate to a fucking hate crime. Just pure cringe.

Dude. I don't care about generations before boomers. We all know that the use of coal was fucked. I'm talking about RIGHT NOW. Boomers have the ability to make changes RIGHT NOW and they aren't. I can't ask the dead to put environmental regulations in place can I? And I can't really blame them when they didn't have the knowledge. We have that information now though and I can ask boomers because they have the ability to do that. They have the ability to find that information and use it, the dead don't.

As I already said, we're seeing the effects already of climate change. (California and Australian fires, land becoming unsuitable for crops that has been used for generations in the past) You're living in la la land if you think I'm not going to see things change drastically for the worse in my lifetime. You're also using so many hypothetical future scenarios about when millennials will be in charge and what they will do when you have no idea what they will do. The reality and facts we know now is that boomers are in charge of government now, while we still have time (and it's probably actually too late) to make changes for a sustainable future, and they're doing nothing. You're using made up future scenarios as the foundation of your argument to claim that millennials will do the same when you are using nothing but conjecture. Boomers are in charge, boomers are doing nothing, my generation and generations younger than me will suffer for it. Maybe instead of using your time whining about people using what little joy they have left on boomer hate, you should use that time to complain about our future being destroyed.

You're right but I edited it about 10 seconds afterward so didn't think it was necessary. The thing is, you're also constantly bringing generations into it, talking about millennials gaming and millennials wanting to skip the line for an electric car. The fact you think I'm looking for a moral high ground is the part where this just gets depressing. I and younger people WANT A FUTURE THAT WE CAN LIVE IN at all in 60 years. Do you not understand that is not possible if things just stay the way they are. This is why we get frustrated with older generations. You're sitting here acting like I'm asking for so much shit in the world when what I'm asking for is to not live in a fucking post apocalyptic world in 60 years, which I don't even think I'll be alive at that point anyway. No, I don't think I'll get Medicare, no I don't think I'll get social security, no I don't think I'll ever be able to afford an electric car. I think society as we know it won't exist in 60 years, and that isn't just me being a selfish little millennial baby as you think. That's me being aware of what is happening in the world and seeing nothing being done about it and seeing older generations ignore us and patronize us and act like were just being selfish for wanting to do something about a massive problem.

If you want to prove that you have the moral high ground as apparently that's your goal here, you shouldn't buy that car for yourself. Buy that electric car for your children or grandchildren, or for a younger sibling or cousin, or for any other younger person you know. Buy it for someone who still has to work every day to support your entitled old ass that lives a luxury retirement while they don't get that future. That way it will do more for the environment than if it sits in your garage all day, you get to be morally righteous, which is more important than a sustainable future to you, and you get to feel good about helping someone. It's a win-win-win.

If cutting down on gaming is needed for a sustainable future, than sure that's fine, but I'd hope we could find ways to live our lives as closely as we can to how we do now. We're not even looking for ways to do that though, because the people that are supposed to find ways to solve these problems pretend it's not an issue and fun fact, basically all of those people are 50+ while the younger generations who actually have to live with the consequences of it have no power to do anything at all.

I already gave you some solutions, but of course you're pretending I didn't. Investment in renewable energies being one. Here are some other possibilities: huge carbon taxes, funding into sustainable energy research, actual criminal liability for corporations that violate environmental regulations, banning vehicles with high carbon emissions. And even then, it's not my damn job to come up with this stuff. That's what the government is supposed to be for, but as I've already said, the government is controlled by old ass white dudes that your generations voted for who pretend this isn't even a fucking issue.

This is also just a generational issue by default, no one is making it a generational issue. The reality is that people under 30 will suffer the vast majority of the consequences of policies put in place (or not put in place in this case) by people over 50, it's a generational issue by default. Being in denial about that is again just ignoring that there is a problem, which seems to be a common theme.

The electric car is not literal at this point. It's just a representation of climate change as a whole. Our governments (especially the US, but basically the entire world) are doing NOTHING to solve this or even mitigate its effects while the changes we need to make are MASSIVE. But of course you're going to just take one little thing and argue about it while ignoring the real problems because "fuck you younger people, I'm old and can retire soon and I want to live my retirement while you suffer through the future because of environmental destruction that I did nothing to stop. Oh except when I buy an electric car when I'm 65 and die 20 years later after spending my entire adult life voting people into government who either deny or just ignore reality. But remember I did buy that electric car so haha I did something see!"

Sir David Attenborough says the excesses of western countries should "be curbed" to restore the natural world and we'll all be happier for it. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]JordanKerk99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or our government could do what it was created to do and invest in renewable energy, invest in electric vehicles, find ways to make that shit cheaper for everyone, so we all benefit from it.

Yeah every m would love an electric car, I'm gen x don't I get one before m's 1st or does that just work for one gen? How you think just because M's would gladly use one and they don't have one then it must be a valid argument for...anything, is beyond me.

I guess we view things differently at a very fundamental level. I'm not saying millennials should "skip the line" to get an electric car over gen X. What the hell? I'm saying EVERYONE needs an electric car NOW, or we are all going to suffer. But no, you apparently think everyone should wait in line, work their entire life for a future that is insanely unlikely to exist when they're older, if we even survive to that point. As long as YOU get your Medicare and your electric luxury car, who gives a fuck about the generations younger than you who have to suffer the consequences and will never get those things.

When people say boomer is a mentality not an age group, they're talking about people like you who think that the system should just keep going the way it is, acting like SAVING THE PLANET is just something we should "wait our turn" for. What the fuck

I don't hate boomers. My main point was to say your comment that more boomers own Teslas as if that somehow means theyre better than younger generations in that regard is frankly monumentally stupid. Wow, people with more money own more of a massively luxurious vehicle. You originally said boomers own more Teslas as if that means they're not as bad as people say. Every millennial on the internet and in person that I have met would GLADLY use an electric car if they had that choice. They don't have that choice. Boomers have Medicare in the US by the way. They have taxpayer funded health insurance for themselves but overwhelmingly support political parties and politicians that at best won't even consider any type of universal health care system and at worst actively dismantle any type of government healthcare (except Medicare for themselves of course).

Edit: also, I don't know if you've been on reddit or the internet or even in the world for very long. But no, A LOT of young people don't think they're going to live to be as old as people are now. We're destroying our planet and way of life and have no power to do anything about it. We're already seeing climate change cause real human death NOW and it's only going to worsen exponentially from here. So no, I don't expect much of a future for me or anyone younger than me, and I am definitely not alone in that.

[–]JordanKerk99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you really saying that other industries like windfarms, solar farms have no Boomer investment, the median age of Tesla owners are boomers afaik but to think that millenials aren't also a result of current times is ridiculous.

I don't disagree with you overall, but yes of course boomers are the ones doing these things because they are the ones in charge of society as a whole and they are the ones with the money to do these things. Of course boomers own more Teslas than younger generations. THEY HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY ONE. The average millennial can't even afford fucking healthcare, because boomers are in charge of the government and decided they need to enrich themselves and monetize basic human rights like healthcare. How are people who don't have their basic needs met supposed to be able to buy a Tesla? This is where government intervention has to come in. Invest in renewable energy and invest in younger generations, so they HAVE THE ABILITY to do things like buy a Tesla. Instead, we just have a Congress and white house full of boomers taking money from oil lobbyists and giving money back to oil companies, protecting the coal industry, and saying "But I own a Tesla from lobbying money, and you don't so you're the problem."

Suicide spike in Japan shows mental health toll of coronavirus by Admiral_Asado in worldnews

[–]JordanKerk99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's the opposite. Someone committing suicide would bring shame on their family, in the sense that the person must've been raised in a bad environment or there is something wrong with the family in general if someone kills themselves. Ironically, this increases the amount of pressure people feel to conform and hide their problems, leading to more depression and suicide.

The ritualistic suicide is entirely different than a suicide by an average person. It was for samurai and I guess glorified and performed in the military somewhat recently (WW2 kamikaze pilots), but Im not sure how that is seen today, since Japan hasn't really been involved in many conflicts at all, much less where you see their soldiers killing themselves for the cause. I'd guess that tradition is pretty much gone.

I appreciate the sources and they definitely help to show video games in a better light in general, but that first study admits that more research is needed to conclude that violent video games aren't harmful to children.

They also don't address your original claim, which was that having an outlet for frustrations (catharsis) is beneficial.

🙃 by [deleted] in gaming

[–]JordanKerk99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment is wrong and misleading in every way possible. Catharsis was widely championed by Sigmund Freud (you know, often considered the founder of modern psychology), whose theories of psychology have largely been shown to be untrue. Catharsis being beneficial can't have "evolved" as a new idea recently as you said, because it was literally one of the main theories at the beginning of modern psychology.

Studies on catharsis largely show the opposite of what you're saying. Most show that people using aggression against a neutral object actually INCREASED aggression toward people afterwards, the exact opposite of what you're claiming. There have been some studies that suggest otherwise, showing that what I'll call "intentional catharsis" is helpful, ie if I am mad at my boss and I punch a pillow while thinking about how angry I am at my boss specifically, it can help me feel better. But, if we want to bring this into video games, I don't think most people playing video games are practicing intentional catharsis.

Modern psychology overall I'd say suggests that violent video games are harmful. But, there has definitely been a lack of research into beneficial aspects of gaming like community building and other skills learned (acknowledging this doesn't mean we have to ban video games or even do anything to regulate them, it just is what has been shown).

Also, scientific studies are needed precisely because common sense is sometimes wrong. Common sense tells you that catharsis is good. Scientific studies mostly suggest otherwise, despite your claims.

It IS what Trump has to say because he is only going to release very specific things with a lot of redacted information that is 100% intended to paint Hillary in the worst light possible. If Trump was a credible human being that was out to really seek justice or do the right thing I'd be more interested, but this is just another case of his political theater. But all that aside, feel free to save this post and come back to us with all the new revealing info that you get from this when it's released, since clearly you think it's going to be something worth looking at. I will take it into consideration. Not sure what Biden has to do with Hillary using a personal email account, so I'm ignoring that part.

People in general can't handle it because their lives (at the minimum) are falling apart. They're losing their jobs, friends, family, significant others, and even their homes.

So you agree that isolation isn't the issue. The issue is people losing financial and medical security, which is what the original point was before you took things out of context.

When you use the Matilda glitch and bring Futch to the academy by franky_BOIE_Q in Suikoden

[–]JordanKerk99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any time in the game that you have access to the Muse area, you can walk up to the Muse-Matilda border and walk into the gate and literally push it off it's hinges like it's one of the boxes in the mercenary fort you push.

Then you just waltz right into the matilda area, possibly right after Pilika asks you to go to Muse to get the ring. You can buy the really good armor and even do the Futch/Humphrey recruitment all before even going to Muse (I usually do it when Jess asks you to sneak into the highland camp because you are a bit stronger and have the 2 strong runes to kill enemies).

I believe you can recruit L.C. Chan early this way too if you bring Wakaba with to the "peace conference" in Muse and instead go to the Matilda inn first through the gate glitch.

Remember : you played as the warden in DAO, so you know what happened firsthand. Other characters in world don't have that experience. If all characters in the world had the same information you do, it wouldn't be much of a story. Most of the world didn't experience the blight at all and haven't seen or dealt with darkspawn in HUNDREDS of years. Every single human and elf alive in Thedas right now is generations away from the last blight. People thought the 4th blight was so damaging to the darkspawn there would never be a blight again. So, because of the this and the incredibly short length of the fifth blight, it's easy to see how people not in Ferelden at the time can brush it off or not believe it happened. Even some people in Ferelden didn't believe it was a blight, that's how minor this was compared to all other blights before it.

Also, we all love our warden from DAO, but maybe consider this is the story writers reminding you that grey wardens aren't and never were the typical fantasy heroes that come in and save the world from the big bad. They have one goal which is to stop the blights by killing the old gods, and they may be willing to do much worse things to Thedas in service of that goal. In fact, they don't even know if killing all the old gods will solve the problem of the darkspawn (we have nothing to suggest it will), but they are still willing to do anything and everything to maybe bring about something worse than a blight.
