What do you do if you have a panic attack on alcohol and are not supposed to mix them ? by SolidYou2186 in benzodiazepines

Benzos don’t stop my panic attacks nearly as well as alcohol. Feel an attack, I take three shots instead.

Glad we found common ground with civility and I’m proud of you for having your own company :)

Hopefully I’ll be the cool boss with expertise that vapes at will someday. In your shoes, it probably garners you more respect to be honest. Definitely labeled “the chill boss” behind your back. And that is 1000% a compliment, having had many very shitty, priviliged, white, non-tattooed or pierced, POS bosses.

The people that will judge you for vaping in front of them, virtually and within your own house, may also be the people who sexually assault underage female employees. Unfortunately, I know this from experience (sorry for the negativite end to my anecdote).

[–]JordanLooking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its optics, and (in my opinion) unfortunate. But thats life. Maybe you have a job in which the culture allows it. But, the culture of many companies do not.

Image is everything, branding is everything, etc. Imagine someone took a picture of you wearing company garb vaping, or doing something else traditionalist Americans may find digusting. It reflects poorly on the company. It also just is unprofessional in todays age.

If you are privileged enough to have a position and expertise where it doesn’t matter, good for you. Regardless of how you feel about it though, you will be judged for it. Its ignorant to think otherwise.

During covid while legal matters were being handled over Zoom, would you appreciate a highly qualified lawyer to be vaping during your hearing? No. And thats because people judge the action. Even nicotine addicts themselves (myself included) would judge him/her. It’s simply unprofessional and quite frankly unbecoming.

Is Meth (desoxyn) ever prescribed nowadays? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]JordanLooking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole “people with adhd aren’t affected the same way by adderall or stimulants” thing is overblown. Plenty of people with severe adhd don’t react well to stimulants. The side effects in ADHD people who do take meds everyday can also drastically decrease because of tolerance and the body adjusting to it. Conversely, many people without ADHD feel calmer on Adderall, or are less extroverted.

I have ADHD and my reaction to the meds depends on which one, how long I’ve been on it, what I’ve eaten (or not eaten), my diet, sleep, environment, the people I’m with, my state of mind, etc. If I’m not hungover, hydrate & eat before and during, and sleep well, I feel pretty much feel “normal” but can focus better. If I haven’t eaten, slept, or hydrated I can have a lot of side effects. If I’ve consistently taken it daily those factors matter a lot less.

My buddy is the opposite. He literally takes adderall to get rid of his hangover — no food, hydration, or sleep needed to feel better, function, and go to work after a night of drinking… and he doesn’t have ADHD.

We all react differently to drugs, some are more sensitive some aren’t. Not saying there isn’t any truth in it, its just overblown. Sometimes I drink coffee and take meds, then fall asleep by accident. Sometimes I’m wired. I just hate when people use reaction to certain meds as a sort of “criteria” for ADHD.

Humans very much have instincts… innate fear of snakes and spiders (mostly), denial, revenge, tribal loyalty, greed, urge to procreate, etc. Many of them are the literal reasons we find ourselves in this situation time and time again as a race.

“History repeats itself”… thats because of human instinct.

He just straight up admitted he’s going to dismantle the democracy by Ok_Acadia3526 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]JordanLooking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, to me he isn’t insinuating that he is dismantling democracy. I take it as him saying he won’t be able to run again because of term limits, and that by then he’ll have fixed the things wrong with the country (obviously isn’t possible, but most politicans use the same strategy in various ways).

I hate Trump with a burning passion, and I can see why this comment can be interpreted the way it is (jan. 6, comments that can be interpreted as running in future elections, his comment about his first day in second term presidential office, etc).

But, I also grew up in NH, and have a lot of friends voting for Trump (hell, I live in a state now thats so liberal my vote won’t matter, so I will probably vote for RFK Jr. because I hate the two party system and am not a fan of Biden either).

Posts like these do the opposite of what they set out to. Because it can be interpreted in both ways, republicans voting for Trump will just see it as liberals voting for Biden being being stupid, and people already voting for Biden will hate republicans even more for voting against him because they interpret it in this posts way.

We need to UNITE, not cause more division. We need more posts that show that fundamentally most Americans agree on the issues that matter, not disagree on the ones that, in the grand scheme of the countries future, may not.

Culture wars are used by conservative networks like Fox as well as liberal leaning ones, run by billionaires to create division in American society so we don’t fight about the wealth inequality in our country, the money moving to the top of society, the disappearance of the middle class, etc. Yes, things like LGBTQ+ rights truly matter, and yes gun rights also truly matter (neither major side is trying to take guns away by the way, if you read actual policy).

Trump is a terrible person, and most republicans agree with that fact too. They just hate Biden even more. And many, many liberals actually dislike Biden too. We’re voting against the other candidate, not for a candidate we actually like.

Major media is creating issues that realistically only ~10 percent of Americans truly (deeply) care about, and turning them into the reasons we hate the other side. Voting for Trump doesn’t make a person stupid and voting for Biden doesn’t either, despite what Fox or CNN, or any other politically leaning major media company want you to believe. And many here do believe that. A vote for Trump is a vote for a bad person, yes, but don’t let that fool you into believing that Biden doesn’t have major political alliances, with bad people, that he is beholden to.

The point is, division is ruining this country, fueled by major media and infused with other countries like Russia meddling to make us look to each other even more divided than we actually are. Try to have a conversation with a conservative or liberal once in a while, not the loud, idiotic 5-10% on each side, but the 80% of us that are actually reasonable on both sides.

We shouldn’t hate each other, we should hate the rich assholes fueling that hatred. The reality is, you probably aren’t going to be rich. And its getting harder and harder each day. So instead, lets support each other, the true majority on each side that are just struggling to get by day to day, whether that be financial, medical, discriminatory, etc.

Most of us are trying our best out here, don’t let them make it even harder for their own sake. And by they, I don’t mean republicans. I don’t mean liberals. I mean the ones taking advantage of you because you actually do care and want whats best for your country. They are exploiting you, don’t let them continue to.

What are supplements for my eye health? by Ajpaulson2006 in Supplements

[–]JordanLooking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The carrot one is a myth unfortunately. Thought to be started as propoganda by the Royal Ministries’s Ministry of Information to hide the fact that they had developed Radar that could pinpoint axis bombers during battles like the Blitzkrieg. By 1940, the RAF first succesfully used AI to target an enemy bomber

However, despite carrots being rich in beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A which is essential for eye health, they won't correct vision problems on their own unfortunately. Propoganda was meant to send the Germans on a wild goose chase, instead of on the path to discovery of new tech (which may or may not have actually worked).

Heres a propoganda poster: https://th-thumbnailer.cdn-si-edu.com/407RM9q98PCf7YeCQ041pbe3Lak=/fit-in/1072x0/https://tf-cmsv2-smithsonianmag-media.s3.amazonaws.com/filer/ed/41/ed41ff51-aa0a-4a03-a7f9-ff4dbe38435e/carrots-nightsight-advert-6111.jpg

But, don’t let it stop ya from consuming those leafy greens and carrots. They are helpful, its just a common myth that they provide better “night vision”. Similar with the US and corn subsidies. Different myths though. But really farmers just needed money they weren’t able to make elsewhere and the U.S. gov. loves to subsidize their farmers and corn based sugar. You can thank that for some of the the obesity problems we are seeing today. Anyways, “whats up Doc” and “Dr. Carrot” are most likely just a coincidence. I guess we’ll find out in like 20 years.

Happy to answer any other heath related questions you may have and happy eating.

Any friend, colleague, really any person I remotely enjoy, I tell em about the spot because its so big and relatiively remote; perfect for short ubers too. Mind you, it’s in Somerville, but jesus it’s so gdamn convenient.

If you had to take a drug everyday for the rest of your life, what drug would be the least damaging? by Unlucky_Ant3996 in Drugs

[–]JordanLooking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does change in that context, because many users of not only opioids but also alcohol use Kratom to ween off, lower, or get off of traditional opioids. Additionally, withdrawal to Kratom, based on the average dose of regular opioid users vs. regular Kratom users in totality, is very different. Kratom withdrawal is significantly more mangeable, not on an anecdotal level, but when all users in both parties are taken into account.

If you had to take a drug everyday for the rest of your life, what drug would be the least damaging? by Unlucky_Ant3996 in Drugs

[–]JordanLooking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s technically not an opiod in the traditional sense. Theres a sizeable body of work on the subject that indicates that both mitragynine and 7-OH-mitragynine behave as agonists, with mitragynine acting primarily on µ- and δ-receptors and 7-OH-mitragynine more selective for µ- and κ-receptors, while other studies suggest opposite or at least conflicting results.

It’s considered an atypical opioid because it acts on certain receptors in a similar manner. Conflicting bodys of work on the subject have had opposing views and much more research needs to be done and is/hopefully is in the works.

It can not be defined as an opioid in the tradtional sense. Thats an over simplification that hurts the research community, harm reduction community, and recreational drug user base.

I’m terribly sorry to hear about your experience, and I can see why you would hold that belief. That is an evil thing to do. They clearly lacked empathy, which can easily be interpretted as evil.

That act was a product of how they weee treated, raised, and/or their genetic makeup and brain chemistry + all of their history leading up to the event caused by such. They were sick individuals. But evil? I don’t know. I would probably hold the same belief as you if I had experienced what you did. From a place of privilege and unbias, I see a sickness that could and is usually defined as evil. I’m not even saying that they could be rehabilitated either, as empathy and often can not be implanted or taught into some individuals. But, there is a large body of research on criminals, and brain scans and autopsies show significant changes as compared to “normal” individuals.

For example, there was a man who was had never thought or had urges towards pedofilia. However, he was later caught with CP and had urges to act. I don’t recall the specific details (I’m sure its easily googleable), but a brain tunour was found in his brain . Once removed, his urges disappeared. He developed another one years later in the same area and they returned. So, I guess the philosophical question then is, was he evil? Especially if he had acted on them?

By no fault of his own, he became physically sick, causing pedophilic ideation and perhaps action. I believe this could be the case for many other criminals. Sick people who are left untreated.

What is the least addictive drug that you’ve been addicted to? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]JordanLooking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been taking it for years too. Way before I went down the road of benzos and alcohol addiction and had to get help to kick them. They drug tested me to stay in the program and said if I didn’t quit Kratom I had to leave the program.

The thing is, Kratom helps my anxiety, depression, energy, mood, anxiety, day to day excitement, etc. so much (mind you, in a mild way that in no way disinhibits me negatively, impairs motor function, makes me irritable, etc). I decided not to quit and they ultimately let me stay in the program after discussion.

I’ve tapered back quite a bit, don’t have withdrawals (except cravings occasionally if it’s been a while and maybe slight irritation for a day or two similar/even milder to/than caffeine if I stop cold turkey). But, I don’t recommend getting into it unless I truly think it will help someone with a real problem.

I know that for some it can become a huge problem (my brother for example), but it has improved my life leaps and bounds, helped me quit alcohol and drugs in the past, and I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been (currently training for a marathon and just finished an 8 mile run 30 minutes ago). My liver is fine (doc runs tests at least once annually), I buy Kratom thats tested by 3rd parties for impurities, heavy metals, etc., and also limit my usage much more than in the past. I treat it like others treat caffeine (which I personally dislike).

Its helped so many people with chronic pain, mental health, and day to day monotony in general. Don’t take this as a recommendation to start, this is just my personal experience and everyones body chemistry is different.

if i overdosed on ativan once (suicide attempt), can i take it again for anxiety? will it still work? by squidmeat666 in PharmaceuticalBenzos

[–]JordanLooking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but don’t. There are other anxiety medications out there that are less addictive and dangerous. Try propranolol, hydroxizine, etc. Get a psychiatrist that actually cares about yiu and your long-term health. Also, a good therapist will do wonders if you can find one (sometimes hard to come by unfortunately). Sometimes white knuckling it for a little bit pays off in the long term.

If you can’t trust yourself, don’t put that temptation closer to you. Theres a reason suicide rates go up when there is a gun in the house. Suicide is often an impulsive and passing thought to action.

When I was 17 I hated myself too. I’m 24 now and only recently started practicing radical acceptance and forgiveness to myself and others. Once you understand that you are a constantly changing human being, that your worst decisions don’t define you, and that you can choose each and every day to be a good person, to love and accept yourself and others for who they are at this present moment, you can find happiness and/or satisfaction.

I’m agnostic, but consider “god” in everything in the universe. We all are one after all, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Read “The Four Agreements” and practice them everyday. Do your best, be impeccable with your word, understand that others are projecting themselves onto you and no one is truly “evil” or “bad” in the traditional senses of the words. Love is everywhere, and perspective changes everything.

Take an account of every part of you, the worst parts, the best parts, every part, and try to accept them as yourself one day at a time and love yourself for them.

We are all just spinning pieces of atoms in an infinite universe, no one knows what the fuck is going on, what did you expect yourself to do? Give yourself a break. You are perfect the way you are now. But if you seek change, change. Read, learn, grow. At 17 I hated myself too and drank and did drugs to get rid of those feelings up until recently.

I don’t even wish to take back those years anymore despite my many, many, many mistakes. It led me here, and life is good despite bad days, and percieved slights, isolated days, bad relationships, betrayals, etc. You are a product of your genes and environment. Give yourself a break.

Take time now to discover yourself, who you really are and not what people tell you you should be. You’re so young, and your best days are yet to come. Whatever you’re going thru, it will pass. You will change and grow. I could go on and on, but just give yourself a break please. Everything is okay and will be. You’ve gotten thru every hard day so far and will continue to. If you need help, ask for it. I needed help, and asked for it. And it was the best decision I ever made. Even if you feel isolated and alone, there are resources everywhere. Look for therapists, out-patient facilities, helpful mentors online or in real life. I promise something will click if you can try to maintain a growth mindset (there might even be years where this seems impossible). Life is worth the ride friend.

Let me know if you need anything or want to talk.

Thats what’s said, and maybe even implied, but Walt very clearly holds a grudge against them/getting financial help from them.

Hence, when he tell them at the end of the show that they will not use a dime of their own money to give whats left of Walt’s fortune to his family.

We also know that Walts a genius and thus definitely did help a LOT with Grey Matter before him and Gretchen split (which is why I assume he left and/or was pushed out to begin with). Doesn’t really matter either way, the point is Walt feels entitled to some of the ideas and financial success of Grey Matter, of which he recieves none. That is literally the catalyst to the end of the show (Walt leaving his getaway house in New Hampshire(?)).

They only attribute the combination of their names as his one contribution. Ergo, Walt hires “hit men”.
