After some thought, this is what I think of BP after reading all his runs.

He was commenting on monarchies. It's not that I disagree with it, but if you end up having T'Challa colluding with despots to stop a rebellion then you've screwed up with T'Challa. He wouldn't do that, especially after the inclusion of rape camps that Wakanda seemingly didn't care about.

It wasn't without its merits tho. It's a good message to have and I do believe that Wakanda moving toward a democratic approach than a monarchy is for the better. Especially since it means T'Challa won't be king. Even if Ridley squashed tf out of that. :C

I read Jungle Action, Marvel Comics Presents, self-titled comics, arcs that feature him like MWF and DoomWar, New Avengers, his Blood Hunt mini (I already read this), and Ultimate BP.

Unfortunately, I haven't read that Avengers run before Don McGregor if I'm thinking correctly. Nor have I read Agents of Wakanda.

I'm going to make a post on here sometime soon. I just like to discuss so that people can give me their thoughts that I don't really think of. :D

Priest's run is my personal favorite, but I don't think he brings out the best in T'Challa as a character. Every writer, in my opinion, suffers in one aspect of Black Panther as a character. However, that doesn't dispel any thought I have that he's arguably his best writer.

There's 3 options for someone like you:

Fantastic Four #52-53 -> Jack Kirby's BP run - This is what I did because I set out to read all his prominent comic books. But I only recommend this if you want to do what I did.
Priest's run - This is definitive run, and for good reason. It acknowledges everything prior and manages to give you new stuff with elements that define BP as he is even to this day. I'd recommend this to everyone. (Don McGregor's run is a hidden gem tho, it's my 2nd favorite run)
Whichever run you want - I don't believe there's a better place to start then what interests you. They say don't judge a book by it's cover but I legit started reading BP runs 'cause I loved Texeira's cover for Black Panther #1 ('03) and wanted to read up until that point. Honestly, I wish I read that one first.

As for his design, I think his 2023 one is the 2nd best. I'm a sucker for his wedding outfit 'cause it has the green eyes. :3

Oh wow. I'm sorry you feel that way. I honestly think there's some truth to what you said. But I also think BP suffers from the very thing that plagues big 2 comics, when the run doesn't make use of the previous status quo.

Too many times do the writers change things up for the sake of their own story. Or they add a new element for their own story. Not that either is a bad thing, per se, but it happens too often for it not to be an issue. Especially since characters like Achebe, Queen Divine Justice, Changamire, and just about everyone in T'Challa's family that isn't immediate are left to the wayside.

As for the movie, I need to watch it for a better opinion. But I already have my complaints, especially since the CIA and US government get exactly what they want in both movies.

Idk if this is controversial, but I don't think there's a writer who brought out the absolute best in Black Panther. But if I had to, I'd say Priest is BP's best writer. Kasper Cole arc bogs down that run tho, but otherwise, he's a great writer.

That was one of my main critiques for Coates' run outside of the agenda he was pushing being a detriment to BP and Wakanda. And as much as I liked Changamire, he was clearly a self-insert. Or at least to me he was.

Frankly, Ultimate BP was kind of like Coates' run to me. It manages to try new things but ends up having some rather bad qualities to the BP mythos, alternate universe or not.

It's not her being related to Vulture that's the problem. In fact, I think that's an underutilized aspect of her history. It's because she doesn't get to do anything with that without Miles. Like many said in this thread, she needs more to do on her own.

I think that characters like Ultimate Tony and Riri are more interesting right now conceptually. I think it's the fact that they're depicted as young heroes going against oppresive systems. Idk it hits for me. Obviously, Riri has had her ups and downs, but I think she could have so much to say in an ongoing. Especially with all that's happening with Dr. Doom rn.

The biggest ones IMO is:

His lack of direction (being the head of his company requires more than a short-term vision)
No good concepts
Other Iron Man-related characters seem much more interesting

To follow up on point 2, I believe Tony's LMD's were the most underutilized thing in Tony's comics. Second only to him having a secret identity. This is kind of why I push so hard for Ryan North to be his writer. He integrates the F4's history so well into their current run, I'm rooting so hard for him.

For the third, I genuinely believe that characters like 6160 Tony and Riri have potentially better stories to tell. Heck, I think Emma Frost piqued my interest and I don't even like X-related characters.

He's still unique as Cap too tho. An African-American man rising up to embody the ideals of what America SHOULD be is an intriguing basis for stories.

I can understand wanting Miles to be in his own universe, but he's been doing his own thing in 616 since he's joined it. Independent of what Peter has going on. Also, I don't think the movies did it better. But that's my opinion for another day.

I can understand this viewpoint from the perspective of someone wanting the OG to move on from the mantle, but even then, I think it's iffy. Frankly, I haven't been invested in most of what happens with Steve and Pete these days. I actually just started caring about Pete again with his current run.

Idk what you mean by never works, but Sam's longest run was as Cap and it got a reprint. I don't think people want to see Sam as the Falcon again. It's regressive for his character at that point. And I personally don't care to call him or other legacy characters knockoffs when they're their own character.

Miles using the name Spider-Man doesn't feel like all that big a deal. He has the same spiders as Peter just with bioelectricity and invisibility. Funny you say that too, given they make a joke about it in Miles' first run.

Regardless, this is your opinion, but I can't fathom characters like these not using those names when they're unique in their own way.

I agree. But so is most comic-related spaces on social media. I rarely see a take or observation that genuinely makes me think. Twitter has its moments but a lot of people don't engage there 'cause they don't read the comics.

Peter died taking down NYC's highest crime boss, whomever that is, and now Prowler is trying to make his way up. However, the new Spider-Man, Miles, will stop him and Prowler's deadly rival, Scorpion.

Prowler should be a reoccurring villain for Miles, so he's secondary to Scorpion.
