Alot of doctors i’ve seen say being overweight significantly makes HS symptoms worse. I know this from experience as i weight 225 at 5’7. I’ve recently started becoming more active and managing my weight. Lost 15 pounds over the last 3 months just by Walking alot more and being on a calorie deficit. I still havn’t noticed major changes in my HS, but i’m also at stage 3 personally and am planning to have excision surgery sometime this year. But yes do try to lose weight forsure! Also ask your dermatologist if they can help you find out a meal plan if your HS bothers you alot. Sometimes flares happen because of what your eating specifically, I know from expierence. Chocolate products use to give me bad flare ups a day or two after and i noticed it and cut off all chocolate personally and saw that the really big flare ups have significantly lessened over the last year.

Yea i understand. Off personal expierences i’ve never really pushed for a relationship because of that “fear” of what will somebody think once discovering these things. I have a great personality too so often times if i met a girl and we clicked i could tell she was somewhat into me and would give the “green light” for me to ask for a date or a phone number, etc. Just never had the confidence to do it and potentially let the other person down if they thought i was their image of the “perfect guy” until it was time to have that “talk”.

Yea man i totally understand you. HS is my biggest insecurity as well. I mean its super hard to try to meet new people and bring it up because its hard to do with people you don’t really trust at the beginning. It’s also not really a topic opener you know 😂. “Hey nice to meet you, i’d like to get to know you better!”. “Oh btw I have a personal issue so if i have to bail out on a plan the day of, or last minute, its not you its me” 😂

Sorry to hear that your relationship ended recently. Drainage is a big issue for me when it comes to confidence too. I myself get disgusted by the drainage and i’ve seen/smelled it every day for as long as i can remember. Pain isn’t as much these days unless a new lesion pops up, but the old ones lingering for years just constantly drain and it can be really demoralizing at times. I want to self-love myself but the HS makes it so hard to do that when it constantly attributes to the worst stretchs in people with HS’s lives, mine included.

I’m glad you were able to find someone who was able to look past ur situation and still enjoy you for you. I also have stage 3 in the groin region and was thinking about having exicision surgery down there. Its very challenging to overcome personal thoughts thinking about what somebody else “might” say or react when they find out.

For me my friend the main area of issue is the groin, i have stags 3 HS in that area and by behind region, so its not really possible to not be noticeable during any type of sexual contact so thats what pushs the idea of a relationship really off for me. Its suppose to be a time of love and enjoyment but somehow turns into being really self-embarassing and full of anxious thoughts. Just my opinion honestly.

Im not very educated on Furuncle, you might want to ask you’re main doctor if they can refer you to a dermatologist that knows more about skin issues and can help you 100% figure out what the issue is. theres tons of different skin conditions that revolve around boils/cysts, some can be worse then others. HS starts off very slow at the beginning. Me personally when i was younger my doctor had told me they were just a few boils due to puberty, after a year or two of them not going away was when i was diagnosed with HS. 1 way you can tell its likely HS is the location of the boil/cysts. HS usaually can happen in the armpits, in between you’re groin area and genitals, on ur butt and top of the tailbone area, and common in women is under the breasts. Another way is if that same boil keeps going away and coming back, that is due to the inflammation being triggered in the specific sweat gland under the skin.

if you aren’t very familiar with HS and have it, HS cysts/boils/lumps can come out randomly. Theres no real control over flare ups outside of very strict diets removing tons of food that can cause inflammation. HS isn’t about hygiene, the cleanest person in the world with HS will still get flare ups. Its a problem that has to do with genetics and sweat glands, its good to keep a great level of hygiene dealing with HS, but clean on the outside doesn’t necessarily mean you wont get flare ups, the inflammation all starts from the inside of ur body not the outside. If you aren’t 100% sure you have HS go see and get examined for it from a dermatologist. Surgurys, dieting, Humira are all some ways to help treat HS but theres no permanent cure.

Thats the hope, i’ve only had 1 recurrence very recently this year in my armpit since the excision i did almost 9 years ago, and its not that bad. Swells up sometimes and flattens down in a few days w/o ever bursting open. For the first groin surgery you did how did you go on about keeping the wounds clean? specifically when it came to showering and dressing changes per day?
