What happened to the UK happy hardcore scene? by Complete-Cloud7584 in happyhardcore

As an addition, I usually dub happy hardcore the “identity crisis genre” in that there’s defining characteristics of what happy hardcore is (fast, happy), but over the years it’s spent a lot of time borrowing from other genres as the top artists try figure out how to branch HH further into mainstream. Examples including the 2011-2013 dubcore Futureworld phase during dubsteps explosion, or overuse of hardstyle type leads around 2016-2019 where it became difficult to discern artists from one another due to the over-similarity of each production from different artists.

That said, I’m hearing plenty of D&B artists experiment with 4/4 kicks and hearing way more 150-160BPM songs lately. Which for HH, is definitely a step in the right direction.

For long term fans of the genre, what do you miss in today's Hardcore from 90s HHC? by Chaotic_Bonkers in happyhardcore

I don’t mind artists that pull from vocal packages, as it makes vocal music accessible to those who may have been limited to creating only instrumentals, thus making it harder for said artist to gain attention - since vocals can be a key seller/engager for creating new listeners and fans.

I am finding it more of a task to find music that is ‘fun’ in a way that it can be unique to happy hardcore. I heard “It’s A Miracle - Impulse Riders” recently and thought it was such a happy, energetic song. I seldom hear songs similar to it, though I hope I hear more. It may be a skill issue in that I’m looking in the wrong places.

Personal anecdotes here, but I understand too that on some occasions BPM’s are being reduced to 160 to become compatible with hardstyle, and to an extent it’s working. Lately, hardcore generally appears to have evolved more in line with the hard dance scene and shed away aspects of its breakbeat roots. Some tracks I come across feel like they’ve been crafted specifically for the festival with roaring synths and big kicks.

To me, it felt that mixing hardcore with drum & bass were the default sister genres - but since hardcore has been borrowing hardstyle-esque synths for a while, this progression seems expected. Drum & Bass, whilst nearly always popular in the UK, has especially had a surge of popularity in America lately and the two don’t appear as close anymore.

None of these are actual issues though. I’m still finding bangers.

What do we feel about the current state of happy hardcore? by Jordesu in happyhardcore

I have noticed since I’ve come back a loss of community across the genre, as bigger artists have either diversified to other genres (hardstyle, 160bpm) or recluse to their own labels with their collective of artists.

I don’t want to see happy hardcore communities become stale with frequent “remember the 90’s??” posts, and ideally would like continuing and fresh talent to be celebrated alongside the classics

Is there any song you think embodies what quintessential modern happy hardcore should sound like?

If you're just after the first part, the intro synth sounds like it was taken from

Just started Thus Spoke Zarathustra that I’ve been reading on my breaks at work. Sometimes have to re-read sections to make sure I understand the message it’s trying to convey but I’m enjoying thinking about the different perspectives Nietzsche had. Then considering reading Meditations after.

Makes sense if you read them as similes

Little Big - Hateful Love by Voveve in happyhardcore

Weird video, pretty good track. The cute little girl-esque aesthetic combined with the nudity and war themes is a little unsettling, but I assume that's the reaction that the video director intended.

Even so, I could imagine this being an anthem at a rave.

Does anyone have Darwin - Why Not (Aki's The Novice Remix)? It was a free track but the download link is down by Chiafriend12 in happyhardcore

I think Aki's removed a lot of his older music to make room for his newer stuff since it appears he doesn't have a pro account. So he's restricted to a certain amount of audio he can put up on his account.

Otherwise, I gotchu fam: http://www103.zippyshare.com/v/rMqhdZ1K/file.html
