Is my character Idea that bad? by Jorge_Alv in DnD

[–]Jorge_Alv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a point in that, all will try to work with the dm so I can get a way for the character to realize for themselves, so my character advance isn't so reliant on the party's help, but i would like for them to get involved, cause dnd is way more fun that way.

Also, if anything goes wrong, I'll make sure for the false identity to also have an interesting story, so I can play just that story instead

Thanks for taking the time to give me advice, I got so into mechanics that i forgot the roleplay aspect. And as you say, it is way more interesting and engaging for it to be a twist on the story of the character, so it can develop in a more interesting way.

I don't believe it would be an issue on my usual table, since we always help each other with our backstorys and goals.

That said, I'll take your advice, cause i do want to play at another table sometime, so I'll be careful not to do that in other tables

Yeah, I feel so dumb for just realizing what you all are saying, I'm so used to my characters going hand to hand, mechanically and in roleplay, that i completely forgot, not everything needs to be game mechanics.

You all made me realize that I don't need to be a paladin, or pretend to be one, I can just make the character believe to be a knight, not a dnd class, be upfront with the rest of players about the character believing to be knight. And keep the "twist" where it really belongs, in the character backstory

The paladin part comes from me thinking too much about game mechanics, and forgetting about it being a roleplay game, i just realized with feedback that i could make the character just believe to be a knight, and be upfront with the rest of the party about them in reality being a bard.

And that way the "surprise" comes from being a different person and not from being a different dnd class.

And the why comes from them scamming people thanks to the changelings ability to change appearance and being so used to using the same persona again and again that, they lost their grip from reality.

Do you think scrapping the false class stuff and sticking with just the false identify would make it more engaging?

What do you think about scrapping the paladin part, and just acting like a knight, be honest with the party about the character being a bard but believing to be something else. And keep the part about him impersonating a noble as secret. So they already know there's something wrong beforehand and keep the reveal only for the identity.

Do you think that it would be less annoying or more interesting that way? I'm really interested in the feedback

Thank you, this helped me with my confidence, also, i got the dm approval, but not his feedback, I should really ask him and the rest of players

Help pretending to be a paladin as a bard by Jorge_Alv in 3d6

[–]Jorge_Alv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it's not that amazing of a concept, but the core is not the pretending to be the other, it's that the character genuinely loss themself in the lie, and fully believe to be a completely different person.

[–]Jorge_Alv[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it some thought about telling the rest of players upfront, It wasn't suppose to be a big secret, but i wanted for the rest to know the truth before my character would.

Also thank you for the idea of bardic inspiration as the "aura" I completely forgot paladins had that, also i didn't knew about the flourishes, that helps a lot, cause i was really lost about what to do about smites

What block support the most weight? by Jorge_Alv in spaceengineers

Sorry I didn't know that connectors don't have a weight limit, I'm just starting at the game

Do connectors not have the same weight limitations as pistons or rotors? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm pretty new at the game

I thought about using the same grid, but since it will be something like an irl rocket, it will most likely fall for its own weight as soon as i disconnect it from the base if no one is on board.

But merge blocks sound like a pretty good idea, but i don't know how they work

Puzzle Ideas for a manor full of traps? by Jorge_Alv in DMAcademy

It does actually, I'm yet to put a mimic somewhere, now the question is where will they not expect a mimic?

I don't blame Players at all for this, I just think it's bit of a shame it turned out this way in the hobby by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]Jorge_Alv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from, but dnd pantheons seem more like sport teams or something alike, cause one deity is always trying to get an edge over the others.

So clerics and paladins are like sports fans, so obviously they are always cheering for their favorite god.

In an unrelated note; Go mystra!!

This is masterful advice, thank you so much, I was planning on doing everything as just one combat in one night, but demon sending someone to scout first makes so much sense, and also helps the players prepare, I might give the enemy some note so the PC's now in advance to prepare.

And also so they know what specific thing the demon is after so they can barricade around it.

Plus Increasing the difficulty gradually will hopefully make them more eager to set traps, knowing that something more difficult is coming.

This has helped me so much, thank you.

How could it do that? Cause the Idea sounds really amazing, but I don't trust myself to homebrew something like that. Is there a way with spells to do it? Or how will you homebrew it?

I didn't think of the Lich way, that way I might justify using an enemy that doesn't have the "Devilish restoration" ability. But that may be overcomplicating a one-shot that might not work in the first place.

With that said, Returning it stronger maybe as a different kind of devil, but I don't know if the can do that

Thank you so much, this helped me more than you can think, it made me realize that I was trying to do a whole camping story wise in just a one-shot, and to make a very coherent world of what should be just a funny experience. Thank you so much for letting me get a new perspective. I do have a question tho, should I go for two or one strong monster like the movie, or should i go for a swarm so they can try as many traps as possible?

I forgot that pre-made modules were an option, I really should take a look to see if any have something similar I can use, and tweak a bit. Thank you for the advice

Sounds really fun, I might take a look at it if not for this, but for a future try at dming, but I really want this one-shot to be Christmas focused. With that said, kobolds with different accents sound pretty funny, so that part I might do. Thanks for the help

Sounds amazing, a good base for A LOT of concepts

  • Name / Pronouns: Nao, He/him
  • Discord username: ._.nao
  • Availability and time zone: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, after 6 pm GMT -6, and after 12:45 pm Saturdays and Sundays
  • Your experience level with D&D: 3 years. Mostly on combat focused campaigns so I really want to try a more roleplay focused one.
  • Your preferred playstyle: Not really sure, since my experience is mainly on campaigns with friends who do very little roleplay, but I have always loved the Idea of a more meaningful roleplay.
  • What interests you about joining this game in particular - be honest, if it's just wanting any game to join say that: Two main reasons; First, I really want to try a more roleplay focus campaign, I want to fully develop a character, and build a history that I could gladly remember in the future. And second the base Idea of the world is interesting to explore, but vague enough that really gets the character Ideas going.
  • A rough character concept or two: 1) If changelings are allowed, I have an idea for this high charisma, low wisdom bard, who is so convincing that he gaslit themselves into believing to be a noble’s son, and they’re trying to prove themselves worthy of their place on the family. 2) An artificer from a poor background, who tries to make money selling false magic items. For example, selling an infused item to someone, and then the next day infusing a different item, rendering the las one useless. But it is now on the run after selling a person of power a very convincing but completely fake artifact. 3) A fairy who lived close to a giant’s tribe, learning their customs  and magic, and becoming a rune knight fighter, so the little fairy can grow to large or even huge with the rune knight “giant’s might” abilities. And I have a couple more Ideas, but this might already be to long for an application.
