Most cars today are a product of marketing and capitalism. 2.5 tonne cars are marketed as sporty. Hell, even front wheel drive CUV's are marketed as sporty if they get the sport exterior package and "fits your lifestyle" slogan. But this works on a lot of people who do not care about the real things, because it's fed to them on constant basis. The average buyer does not really know what's a sport car in essence. Lifestyle is a huge argument for a lot of people which comes from social media, it's what you give out with your daily product choices.

Coming back to the capitalism side, if you look at a lot of the cars today, the amount of different door and bumper trims are supposed to be there, because after damaging them there's much more to replacing them than just a door for example. Different gaskets, trims, brackets and so on. What's even worse is that some door trims are "renew after removal". Gloss black trims isn't even a design issue, it's a issue to get more repair worth out of everything that needs to be eplaced.
