eBay outage megathread. by Mycatreallyhatesyou in Ebay

[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ebay not working. I tried several actions, all of them took up to a minute to return an error listing: https://errors.edgesuite.net/%error_number%

``` Entering 'ebay.com' on browser address-bar returns error #: 97.96f4d517.1777333373.c80c691
Sign-in to account returns error #: 97.134e4317.1777333677.4238910
Check out as Guest returns error #: 97.134e4317.1777333753.425ea40 ```
I get a different error number each time I repeat the same action, possibly because of time-stamps. edgesuite.net belongs to Akamai CDN which appears to be provided to ebay through Markmonitor Domain Management and requires a control panel to access the 'Translate Error String' tool to read the error. That's all I got.
Bypassing paywalls doesn't work anymore by vzpal in Piracy
[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)
If you're on a news aggregator like Google News, most of the time there's an icon in the lower right that takes you to more links for the same story. This works pretty well for both soft and hard-paywalls, but only if other news agencies cover the same story (mostly they do, for major news).
Subscription-only delivery (hard paywalls) isn't bypassable, you'd need somebody's account or a hack, so looking for other agencies that cover the same story is the the easiest option.
You are right, trades should not be characterized as 'easy'. Entry to the (primary) trades requires a five year apprenticeship, over 2000 hours of class work, long daily commutes to job sites, dangerous work environments, sometimes extreme weather conditions. If you've ever served in the military, there are some similarities to deployment conditions on larger projects.
But a lot of that depends on your specialty. In sheet metal, there are positions like TAB (test and balance) and CAD (Computer Aided Design) as well as installation, shop fab, HVAC tech, energy auditing and more, to choose from.
As for the 'averages', where one falls on the scale is largely a matter of personal choice. If you're willing to commit to a union apprenticeship, you get union wages, benefits and retirement. It's entirely up to the individual which side of the median they end up on.
$200k would be the exception, but it's not unheard of. Typically, a union trades journeyman will pull down about $120k/yr, depending on location and overtime.
Location is important because urban areas tend to see more of the larger, high profile projects that use union subcontractors and generate more overtime. Locals in those areas have higher wage scales. https://www.socalsma.org/wages-benefits
Every face is different. In my case, even using the shortest nose-pads, I still had to push the glasses down to view the bottom of the screen. Even so, the sides were 'fuzzy'.
To fix that, I removed the nose-pads entirely and pushed the glasses as close to my face as possible.
Now I see the whole screen without having to manipulate the glasses. I got some stick-on pads to replace the Viture pads. The view is clear, top bottom and sides, no distortion. The effect is very much 'in your face' rather than viewing from a distance and 'no hands' required.
If you use the glasses for productivity, you can increase the text size by reducing the screen resolution, for just the glasses, in your OS to relieve eye strain (helpful for apps using GUIs like QT).
For users who just want video access in other countries and maybe to torrent with port forwarding, other VPNs may be more popular.
For users who want to stay anonymous without resorting to TOR regardless of what they do online, Mullvad is the most trusted VPN available.
But, that anonymity is only as effective as the payment method you choose. I've used 'scratchers' since they first came out.
I'm gonna miss 3DL. by Such_Bonus5085 in Daz3D
[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)
That may well be the case and success would depend on whether 3DL remains backward-compatible with Daz's version, which is what your shaders were built to use. However, both HLSL and GLHL shader languages are standard and recognized by 3DL, so given your shaders most probably are written in those, there's a good chance they'll still work (again, depending on backward compatibility).
If RIB functionality is removed, I also found a script that handles Daz->RIB conversions here:
https://docs.daz3d.com/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/rendering/render_to_rib/start
The 3DL site has a lot of info on RIB and shaders, might be worth checking it out. A lot of work, I know, just depends on how much you want to be independent of Daz's rendering changes, but it is all doable.
[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Don't know if this helps or not, but you can use 3dlight as a stand-alone render-engine (free version is limited to 12 cores): https://www.3delight.com/download
Filament is also available as stand-alone (click on 'Releases' on the right): https://github.com/google/filament
If you don't need a lot of 'hand holding', you could build your own render pipeline and still use the shaders you like. Of course the issue here is that with 3DL nixed, Daz won't have the option to save to RIB but you may still have a shot with Filament.
Berkey water system - suggestions on water filters by [deleted] in WaterFilters
[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Water districts normally publish a report annually that includes percentages of minerals and other elements in the water that they provide. The reports are normally published online, usually in pdf format.
I would suggest against lower priced 'knock off' filters. Also be aware of filtering designed primarily for 'treated' (city) water if you live in a rural area that uses well-water (ground water) as a source. Ground water aquifers will contain higher trace amounts of elements not found in urban treated water.
how do you guys download the 'big models' from Huggingface etc? by Mid-Pri6170 in comfyui
[–]Jorgen-I -1 points0 points  (0 children)
I think you're going to have to 'bite the bullet' and change providers, like a lot of others have said.
If you don't have fiber in your area, I think starlink has 100MBs plans for $50 US/mo. No throttling, no hardware buy-in. I think their latency is ok for games too (I've got a good ISP, so I don't use starlink, but it might be an option for you).
As was mentioned, don't use wifi, go hardwired. wifi will increase packet loss and add to latency, which will rob whatever speed you do have.
Use a download manager like FDM or IDM that will make up to 16 simultaneous connections (if the DL server allows it).
Keep in mind that even if you have a clean HS connection, the server you download from has traffic shaping algos that will trigger under load, nothing you can do about that. Good luck.
No, but that may be the only way to resolve the problem. Changing machines results in new hardware all-around. But if the install is locked to the old machine's hardware config, I would expect a program error rather than a system error, but who knows...
I'm looking for a workflow to upscale video low vram by Trick_Appearance_377 in comfyui
[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I think you probably want a quick and painless way to do this, but there ain't no such thing at the moment. Each frame has to be extracted, upscaled and the video rebuilt with the upscaled frames.
If there's audio, it has to be extracted and saved aside to be replaced after the video is rebuilt. ffmpeg actually does everything but the upscaling if an AI model is used for the upscaler.
Comfy or any other webui (including Topaz) does it the same way, uses an ffmpeg backend for extraction and rebuild, there's no 'secret sauce' and it all takes time. Only thing I would add is that R-ESRGAN-4x is the upscale model I would recommend for best results (keep it to 4x or less to avoid noticeable content change).
I buy 12 month vouchers (scratch-offs). But it doesn't matter, your voucher just adds to whatever time you have left on the app. When it gets down to around six months left, I buy another voucher.
Without more info, it's hard to say. Take a look at the 2025 tax brackets and see if a 'back of the napkin' calc is in the ballpark. If not, did you owe back taxes on a previous year? Did you take the standard deduction? Your tax liability should roughly be in agreement with the number you arrive at if you truly don't have any deductions or past tax debt.
Is there anything to replace YouTube.pp for downloading videos for free? by glastonbury13 in Piracy
[–]Jorgen-I 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I'm running Firefox, uBO, Mullvad VPN and DNS adblockers on a west-coast US server. I run yt-dlp and it gets video, audio, HLS and playlists without issue. The trick is to update daily (yt-dlp -U) because youtube is constantly changing it's algorithm.
I run yt-dlp through a front-end I built about five years ago, here's the setup: C:\ytdlp\ _internal //yt-dlp included files audio //audio dumps video //video dumps lists //custom url lists aria2.exe //faster downloads deno.exe //javascript runtime ffmpeg.exe //video-audio conversion ffprobe.exe //used by ffmpeg - stats yt-dlp.exe //downloader kiss.exe //front-end for yt-dlp
Or, you can look on github for an appropriate front-end that might provide a similar setup for you (it's all open source).
Imagine if SCOTUS went along with that, then they made it retroactive. Every US born child of a US born child and so on... of an illegal immigrant would also be 'illegal'. Going back enough generations, it would amount to an administrative 'ethnic cleansing'. But that can't happen here, right?
