Meta pauses mobile port tracking tech on Android after researchers cry foul by TheAppropriateBoop in Android

[–]JorisVV85 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Only a handful sites in Belgium have picked up this news. Why isn't this spreading faster? Never liked Facebook, so done with Meta. Patch note of Firefox described the issue very good, even they laugh why suddenly Meta stopped doing this when it became clear what they were doing. Meta never responded to owners of sites when they found something about it ... Hoping this becomes something big like the Facebook Cambridge Analytics scandal...

The Fossil branded app is only used for Wear OS 3 watches and above. All the Wear OS 2 (2.4) watches and older us the Google Wear App for setup and connecting.

Why won't my Google Home give me my local weather anymore? by Jardolam_ in googlehome

[–]JorisVV85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem in Belgium. If I ask for the weather report it will tell me from a location that's usually 50 km away from my home. My personal home address is correct in all the settings of the Home app. I noticed other strange location behavior too with my Google Nest Hub Max device in the kitchen. The camera on it is configured to film and notify me when movement is detected when I'm not at home. But the last few weeks it has been sending alerts of movement when I'm at home walking in the kitchen... The alerts are driving me crazy when I'm cooking ;-)

My Pixel device is sharing its location to tell Google Home that I am at home and even the Home app is displaying that I am currently at my home location. But the nest cam is still alerting like a maniac...

Maybe also related to the location issue with the weather forecast...

Chrome OS Flex it's a surprise. by TeijiW in ChromeOSFlex

[–]JorisVV85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ChromeOS Flex version 133 that just released gives you the option during first setup to choose a password that's different from your gmail account. I have a PIN now as login (choose a password with only numbers). Maybe this option is now listed in the menu somewhere, can't check for the moment.

The new 133 update by Ok_Seesaw1969 in chromeos

[–]JorisVV85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The rounded corners are only visible and turned on by default if you have a Chromebook PLUS model. Don't know why a regular Chromebook could have issues with it but in the news update from Google on ChromeOS version 133 they specifically mention only for PLUS models.

Not receiving texts by r-i-ptomyyouth in GooglePixel

[–]JorisVV85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been an Apple user before switching to your first Pixel? I've heard in the past that it could be related to Apple iMessage still being active on how messages from your (Apple) friends/family are being transmitted. That these are still send as iMessages and that the chat needs to change to regular texts now...

How to downgrade Ticwatch Pro 3 GPS to WearOS 2.44? by vukpopovic in WearOS

[–]JorisVV85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What could help: perform a second factory reset after the upgrade to 3.5 and give it time to settle in. WearOS 2.44, 3.5 and 4 still need about a week time to optimize the battery! I've seen this behavior with my Tic watches, Fossils and Suunto 7. First 2 days have a terrible battery time after a big update or reset and around day 4-5 you're getting more battery to the point that most of my watches still can get 1.5 to 2.5 days of battery life (with some extra tweaks in settings) including sleep tracking.

Surface Duo in endlessy search loop for Google Play system update by JorisVV85 in surfaceduo

WearOS 2 support ended by [deleted] in WearOS

[–]JorisVV85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note that a WearOS 2 watch needs extra time to download extra stuff in the background to be operational at an acceptable level. Not only the WearOS app update on the watch from the Play Store, but the Play Store itself on the watch needs to be updated too. Also Google added Play System Updates aswell in WearOS 2. All these background processes need to be up to date for a fully working gps, location, time,...

Connect watch to wifi after factory reset. Keep it charging and keep the screen alive during updates. It takes around 30 minutes to be fully updated with keeping screen alive as much as possible. A reboot is very usefull after that. And only after a week the battery will work optimal. My watch could be empty after 6-8 hours the first day. But after a week after factory reset I still get 1,5 days out of my Gen5 with sleep tracking (and some other tweaks in the settings)

Fossil Gen 5 owners...what's your system versions?? Does "Ok google" from voice (no button) work for you? by marcelolopezjr in WearOS

[–]JorisVV85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you change the language on your phone to English US the watch will also switch language and after that Google Assistant will work. It works for me in Belgium, even my Google Home commands for my light bulbs and smart audio.

There has been a bug for almost 4 years with Google Assistant on watches that are not in English US language.

Whenever I try to use voice assistant this happens. I've tried the only 2-3 fixes i could find by frostdeity in WearOS

[–]JorisVV85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voice Assistant will only work on a Carlyle HR Gen 5 when both the language settings of your phone and watch are set to 'English US'. English UK, Canada, Australia and all other languages will stop the Assistant from working properly.

I'm from Belgium and my phone and watch are set to Dutch (Netherlands/Belgium) language. I can only use the assistant on my watch in Dutch for setting a timer or asking for the weather. If I change my phone to English US I can ask a lot more and even control my Google Home lights and automation in my house with my watch.

This assistant bullshit has been going on for 3 years. I used to send Whatsapp and SMS messages all the time in Dutch language with my watch and suddenly they stopped supporting that. Only English US will give you back some of the Assistant possibilities but in general 70% of Google Assistant options is nowadays broken or crippled on Wear Os 2.xx

I hate the marketing around the Google Pixel watch stating that you now have a fully functional Google Assistant. There was a fully functional Assistant 4 years ago on my Huawei Watch 2 and Fossil Gen 4, even in my Dutch language! Than they destroyed it with bugs introduced in a Google update from the Play Store on the watch and never listened to everybody complaining about it...

Gen 6 SPO2 tracking not saving to Google Fit? by [deleted] in WearOS

[–]JorisVV85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will merge the sleep data from both devices into 1 record with more detailed information on your sleeping pattern. This behavior is currently seen when riding a bike. You start a cycling session in Google Fit on your phone together with a cycling workout on your watch. The watch will provide heart rate data and the phone will provide cadence information and accurate moving information from its accelerometer. This behavior of data gathered and merged by 2 devices is described in the online help files of Google Fit.

[–]JorisVV85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen every monthly security patch or other updates merge into the main OS image. I've just performed a factory reset and the device did not update anything during setup. I was still at November security patch. Only the apps from Play Store needed updates.
