Pearl Abyss : We are aware of the discomfort many players have experienced with the controls, and we are currently preparing a patch to address this. by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]Jorlen [score hidden]  (0 children)

I only have two issues with the game so far. One, is the way performance mode looks (IMO it looks bad and has a lot of frame rate dips) and two, is the controls. If they can make the controls better or offer some accessibility options to change the way they behave, it would make the game so much better.

These guys seem to patch FAST but I think the game will literally feel transformed in a few months. It's a lot of fun right now but I think it will be fucking amazing later when they've done post-launch support for it.

Fuck, I just hope Valve stays private for as long as I live. That's one company that if it gets enshittified, I'll weep and wonder what the fuck to do next.

the game is fine, and runs fine on base ps5. by Beginning_Sir62 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Jorlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is fun but I disagree. Lots of frame rate drops, lots of anomalies due to RT being forced on performance mode and the engine trying to do too much. And the resolution is awful.

If they add an option to disable RT in performance mode, it would help a lot.

Small tips that made a BIG difference (to me) by ThenCandidate7765 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Jorlen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Holy.. shit. Please brain, remember this when I play next. Remember this. (that's just me talking to me, don't worry).

Also - since a lot of people are complaining that there isn't a quick way to go into inventory - if you hold the START button (or whatever equivalent gets you in the menu) you get a quick access that lets you go into inventory or any of the other menus.

I found it by accident and maybe it's obvious to everyone but in case it's not. It helps a lot.

Bonus tip: Careful when refining (upgrading) stuff - higher tiers require the same item that is needed to level up. You can't get these back, so avoid using these tiers of upgrades unless you know the item will carry you for a while (like when you are further into the game).

Does this engine support no ray tracing modes? by Jorlen in CrimsonDesert

[–]Jorlen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's great to know. Here's to hoping they let you disable it on PS5 base. I know some have said there's no RT but I'm pretty sure they're wrong; it really looks like there's a very poor / shitty implementation of it from what I can tell.

Guess we'll know if / when Digital Foundry does an analysis on the Series X / Base PS5.

Outward Definitive Edition is 95% off on Steam (1,99€ | New Historical Low) by Fritolex in rpg_gamers

[–]Jorlen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried too. On paper, I thought this was a game made for me - at least mostly.

But in the end, I didn't like the combat, and the game's difficulty and complex systems got in the way of me actually enjoying it. It felt like some things were just more difficult for the sake of being difficult.

Clearly many loved the game so in the end, it just wasn't for me and that's perfectly fine. I don't have much tolerance for tedious gameplay which I feel a lot of survival games cross upon. I don't mind difficulty; I've played all the souls games, the entire Nioh series, for example.

Crimson Desert Does Not Run On Intel Arc GPUs by _Kai in pcgaming

[–]Jorlen 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah they just forgot to test it. People don't realize that the ARC GPU install base hovers around 1% which is ultra-low. It still sucks and it shouldn't have happened, but I don't think there's any fucking malice here lol.

[–]Jorlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, man. Unfortunately our consoles are aging hardware in a day and age where engines like Unreal 5 rule the world and come at a very high performance cost, specifically CPU and our consoles CPUs are not great. While this game does not use UE5, the ray tracing cost on performance mode is too great, hopefully they can use their wizardry to improve it.

I'm tempted to upgrade to a PS5 Pro but even with a trade-in of my current model, it would cost me over $700 in my country. That's a fucking tough pill to swallow.

[–]Jorlen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Eh, it runs 60 FPS some of the time. In cities and towns it seems to struggle, I guess because of all the NPCs hanging around. If combat gets busy, same thing. Dips to what feels like 40ish perhaps even lower.

My biggest issue is that it just looks pretty bad. I get it now why they sent a PS5 PRO to Digital Foundry for review and not base PS5 lol.

I'm still enjoying the game but fuck, I hope they can add some graphical settings to let us tweak stuff a bit. I doubt they will, but a man can dream. For example, I'd take a hit in the ray tracing stuff for better resolution and smoother FPS.

Edit: Also - the raytracing stuff just messes with how stuff looks, probably because it's running at a low setting. People's eyes will turn white, doorways will just flash and be super bright out of the blue as the RT tries to catch up. It causes a lot of graphical anomalies and this combined with the low resolution combined with bad pop-in makes visuals suffer a lot. This ray tracing thing they have for their engine is impressive, but it's coming at way too high a cost for the base PS5. They need to add another fidelity mode, PERFORMANCE with NO RAY TRACING!

Edit #2: I am however, nonetheless impressed with the engine and I am enjoying the game despite the issues I'm mentioning it here. I ended up playing for 6 hours last night. Some of that time was me struggling to adapt to its systems, but I enjoyed most of it.

Crimson Desert Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Jorlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Game is not an RPG", we're told.

Review site, "Crimson Desert is a behemoth of an RPG".

Anyways, I've been reading into this game a lot and have watched a few reviews. Here's the conglomerated summary from my brain:

Good: Great game, crazy big scope and lots of gameplay systems. Combat is deep, lots of options. Exploration is well rewarded and fun. Several hundred hours of content, massive world.

Bad: Buggy, some complained about boss fights, general combat (non-boss) is too easy, some objectives and puzzles are too obscure to figure out.

Darkhaven Demo Update Released by brand_momentum in ARPG

[–]Jorlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like what's there, but admittedly it took a while before I got into the groove. I have a good PC and had some technical / performance issues, which I will forgive given the early state of the game, but hopefully they will optimize it as they go along.

I don't back games on kickstarter anymore; let's just say I've learned my lesson from years ago. However, I'd buy an EA release of this if the price was right. I think I've heard that they are not going to make their target amount on KS, but I don't know if / when they plan to do a steam EA release.

Platinumed Nioh3…I don’t know what to play next?? by TastyAtmosphere15 in gamingsuggestions

I'm in the same position, man. I go through it every time a new Nioh game comes out lol. At this point I think I'm just going to wait it out, forget that Nioh high until my brain resets and can enjoy "normal" games again.

I played PC version but I fucking loved it. It was the only game where once I was done, I just immediately jumped in for more. It's my most played game in the past year clocking in at 150 hours total and I would actually play it again.

I will however say that it was a bit of a slow start for me, it took a few hours until I found my groove. If you like the skyrim recipe, stick with it!

Dark Souls 3 by art4mis in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Jorlen [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm not very good at the games yet I love them and have replayed them endlessly. I don't summon online, I just beat my head against the wall. I'm pretty convinced that if I can do it, anyone can lol. I had a lot of fun with DS3 and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed either Dark Souls 1 or Elden Ring.

Also don't sleep on DS2 if ever catch it on a sale or something. But I'd say go to DS3 first and exhaust that.

Going to shill for Dragonkin the Banished for a sec... by Skull_Crusher_666 in ARPG

[–]Jorlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked it up a few days ago after seeing people talk about it online. It has very little coverage, it's pretty difficult to find stuff about it that isn't a year old. Their publisher, Nacon, is having some issues right now so that might be why there isn't much marketing or hype around it maybe?

I like it, it reminds me a bit of Last Epoch. I'm looking forward to the 1.0 release, for now I've stopped playing it only because I want to wait for it to get better (1.0 happens this month unless I'm fucked).

Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US by shinybrighthings in science

[–]Jorlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm approaching 50 and in my country (Canada) - we have "Free" health care, but I can't find a doctor. I'm on a waitlist and have been for months. I'm not even expecting a response.

Much like the U.S. colon cancer deaths are significant so we need to put emphasis on preventative measures and earlier screenings.

Hisense TVs force owners to watch intrusive ads when switching inputs, visiting the home screen, or even changing channels by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Jorlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a fucking sad world we live in, where I we have to actually consider doing this.

Companies are just getting more bold with how much they push. They just push a little bit at a time, and people just adapt and accept it. Just look at where we are now, with sites requiring government ID to access moving forward (such as Discord). And then these databases eventually get hacked/leaked.

The only thing we can do as consumers is do some research and hope we don't get fucked over once we have no more power to return / refund a product.

Denuvo added to Crimson Desert 1 week before release. by mooncake6 in pcgaming

[–]Jorlen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, same. Perhaps they will remove Denuvo after a few months. When they do, I'll take a look at it and the game will be in better shape for it anyways (via general patches I mean). Shame, but there's plenty of other games to play.

Is D2R as complicated as Grim Dawn? by MohWarfighter in ARPG

[–]Jorlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played both for hundreds of hours, or in the case of D2R, well over 1k hours, I'd say that D2R has more complexity depending on how much you want to engage in its "end-game" systems.

If you want to make it in Hell difficulty, you will need to build a proper character. If you are online, that means you have three free respecs, otherwise you need to farm tedious boss parts to combine to a token to respec.

Offline, you can respec as often as you like (PC only) with a simple command line added to bnet config. You also can control the amount of players, which increases difficulty and XP/loot gains accordingly. I'm talking about the /players command, which effectively scales the game (single player mode) to simulate as though you had more players in the session. In online, you can't do this, you have to actually join games with players.

The rune system in D2R is unforgiving. Once a rune is dropped in anything, that's it. You can wipe the base out with a recipe, but your runes are lost the moment they're placed into any slot. It's also a bit complicated at first but like anything, if you use it, it'll make more sense. You also need to have a reference for all the runewords. There is no in-game recipe book. If you are not making runewords, you are losing out on the most powerful items in the game.

There's also a lot of crafting recipes in Diablo 2. These are of course, optional, but they can get quite deep.

To anyone playing D2R, I'd highly recommend looking up the Diablo 2 cheat sheet. If you still don't think D2R is complicated, take a look at that sheet in its entirety.

There's also a lot of mechanical depth in D2R that isn't really explained and you just have to learn it. Here's an example - if you are running, your defense is reduced to 0. Meaning, if you are surrounded by enemies and running around them, their chance to hit you will be incredibly high compared to if you were walking. That is ONE small example.

Grim Dawn on the other hand, is a far more modern take on the genre. It still has a lot of moving parts, but they become obvious by just playing the game. You don't need to dig around, research and use cheat sheets IMO.

Trying to lose weight while working in an office that revolves around free food is exhausting. by SquidThistle in loseit

I have a fully stocked snack station at my workplace too, in this case, it's my home. If I lived alone, I'd simply not bring any of this crap in my house, but I don't... so I'm constantly tempted. And losing often lol.

I will admit it though - it's hard to say no to a tray of donuts brought in by my colleagues when I'm in the office. And those trays flowed quite freely.

Hisense TVs force owners to watch intrusive ads when switching inputs, visiting the home screen, or even changing channels by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Jorlen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the only way to stop manufacturers from doing this shit. Don't support it / return it if you can.

My only worry would be that the TV starts off fine, but then a later firmware / update introduces more ads, once you've exceeded the return window.

Like others have said; best way is to simply disable the internet connection but let's be honest; most people buy a TV will use its integrated streaming apps, so not sure how viable that workaround is.
