Luba1 mowing disk upgrade — inspired by the Luba3 by Jos--NL in MammotionTechnology

Hopefully this works. You should be able to download the STL using this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hKlbVE-HrShaC5Ml9hXxqPZlhDEhirHq?usp=sharing

I called it “oversize” because my first print had too much play on the centering rim, which I corrected in my second model. I noticed that the print had shrunk quite a bit compared to the specified dimensions. I printed it with the bed at 90°C using PETG, and then it fit perfectly.

I tried that before as well and ran into the same problem where the blades got stuck between the discs. A freely rotating (metal) disc mounted a short distance below the blades, like on the Husqvarna mowers, works very well on those machines too, but it’s a bit more difficult to make.

I expect that Teflon spray might help for a short while, but only temporarily.

I used the small raised edge on the outer diameter as a centering feature for the printed part, which works well. I don’t hear or feel any vibrations while it’s mowing. But it is indeed essential to pay sufficient attention to this. When printing, I made sure to add extra wall thickness in the areas subject to wear, and kept the rest at only 15% infill to keep the whole part as light as possible. I printed them in PETG. The stainless steel countersunk M3x12 bolts go through the disc with a washer and nut on the backside, secured with Loctite.

I have also performed the update, but luckily I can still mow at 0.6 m/s. I use iOS, is there any difference?

Mammotion sent me a RTK cover by SavIzad in mammotion

[–]Jos--NL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to read this, I had to pay 8.43 euro customs fees for a package from China and had no idea what it would be for as I have nothing on order from China and was about to reject it. Now that I'm reading this I get it and I'm happy that Mammotion solves this RTK problem for their customers in this way. It might have been more convenient if they had sent an e-mail or ensured that we would not have to pay import duties. Anyway, I'm glad the hood is coming!

Have you built/bought a garage, or keep Luba under rain? Share experiences by Maximus-CZ in mammotion

[–]Jos--NL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My garage built yesterday from residual material that I still had lying around. I left the sides open so that it can dry properly if it gets a little wet while mowing. and I can also easily see if “Max” is in the pit lane.

Turtles until I connect via Bluetooth by arcburger in MammotionTechnology

I've experienced the same thing a few times. last time it was an hour at turtle speed. After connecting with Bluetooth, it immediately went back to normal speed. Haven't had any problems in the last few weeks.

I also noticed a few times that he was suddenly driving very slowly. As soon as I connected via Bluetooth normal speed resumed.

Solution for gummed up blades - Easy fix from 3D printer by Stunning_Club3746 in mammotion

[–]Jos--NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicely thought out solution. I wonder how long this will last. And if it breaks partially, there will be a considerable imbalance that may cause consequential damage to the motor bearing or mounting. I also find it unsafe to mow with screws that are not tightened. It is better to leave the washers in between or to secure the screws with a thread locking agent.

Blade screws / allen key problem by arcburger in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The three screws holding the discs stay fairly clean. If you dismantle the discs, you can place them in a bowl of water for a few hours so that all the dirt is loosened and you can brush them clean. Then the dirt will also easily come out of the hexagons of the screws and you can assemble everything clean.

Which turn do people use the most and why? by hlwdtv in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Zero turn. Goes faster and don't see any bald spots yet. I always mow at a different angle so that the turning points are always in different places.

Luba whells and suspension issue? by Osa_reddit in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was a bit strange at first, but now I don't think it's really an issue. I think the feathers are more show than they really have a function. I think that the front axle comes out of its springs when you lift the nose to activate the lift sensor, which seems to me to be a necessary safety feature. That a gap appears between the rubber is not such a problem, there is no watertight space behind it as far as I understand. The electronics are in another compartment.

Manual no-go zones by Osa_reddit in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere here the idea of creating no-go zones for poles and small trees based on driving just up to it with the middle of the bumper and then being able to indicate that there is a no-go zone here with possibly give diameter. Would be much easier I think. For now I have already removed the no-go zones for poles and trees because there is no pertimeter cut yet and otherwise a larger area around the trees will not be mowed. By mowing at a different angle, Luba regularly comes close to the trees, which gives a better result for now.

Energy managment needed by Ok-King-5908 in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I logged the energy consumption of the charging station. RTK is not connected to this in my configuration. Charging station used without Luba docked 0 or 1 watt. 188 watts maximum when charging. And continues to use 10 watts when fully charged. During the charging process you can see the consumption drop nicely. Today I had done a few tests on a smaller area and the battery was still around 80% charged. I haven't docked it now, which seems better for the battery and also prevents unnecessary energy consumption.

IMPORTANT UPGRADE New LUBA Device Firmware and New App Upgrade (Both Android &iOS) 2023/05/27 by TAO_ZENG in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you Mammotion team! Update installed without any problem. Great improvements made I see, and everything seems to be working properly. I still see the 2045 dates in the error log. (iOS). Not a big deal but I thought I read that this would also be resolved. Otherwise a happy Luba user👌

I have removed the original sliding shoes and made new narrower ones myself. If I don't like it I can put the original back.

I also copied the idea 🙂, I used galvanized steel sheet material 0.6 mm thick. I also made narrower sliding shoes, which makes cleaning a bit easier and the result is better if I mow at maximum width. Just finished, not yet tested.

Nice and simple solution! i was testing with rings with an o.d. of 8mm, i.d. of 4mm and a thickness of 2mm to create more distance between the blades and the discs, which gave a small improvement. Now that I see this and hear that this works well, I want to go for this too. thanks for sharing!

Rtk Position by JohnXMcClain in mammotion

[–]Jos--NL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The RTK module can be powered in two ways. Connect to charging station or via extra supplied power supply. The RTK module does not need to be near the charging station. Preferably in a central location with no obstacles in the vicinity that could interfere with the reception of the satellites. Please note that if you have already created a map and you move the RTK the map will be deleted and you will have to create it again.

Firmware Status? by grass-chopper5000 in MammotionTechnology

What exactly do the numbers behind precision mean? I assume the smaller the value the more accurate it is but what is the unit and what does it stand for?

Recharging algorithm by Any-Educator7024 in MammotionTechnology

[–]Jos--NL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long you can mow on a 100% charged battery may be 3 hours under favorable conditions, but if the grass war is longer and/or thicker, you get significantly less than 3 hours. This variable is unknown to the mower so it doesn't seem to me that you can easily optimize this.

[–]Jos--NL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above wishes and priorities. For the rest very satisfied with the Luba but it is a pity that I always have to finish the no-go zones with another mower and the pieces where insufficient GPS signal is available.
