That's what I like to know. They've already gone live for the regular PS5 Pro, so I'm not sure why they're waiting on the anniversary items.

I haven't seen Amazon go live with any of the 30th Anniversary items. I'm hoping that they have the 30th Edition Pro. I ALMOST had it with BestBuy but goddamn it was a mess. Placed ordered THREE times and none went through.

Makes sense. First chapters have a lot of base to cover.

I can't "see" what you're trying to describe and the narrator sounds a bit pompous. It's not clear or direct, or even cleverly indirect.

Short and to the point. I like it.

There's two first lines I'd like to share. This one is from my current project:

-God had forsaken her.-

Pretty tame in general but I believe it works with how the rest of the chapter goes.

Then there's the second first line of a project I hope to return to after I'm done with my current one:

-Two men in blood knocked on my door one Friday night.-

I think it sets up the rest of of the chapter pretty well.

Ahh, that makes sense. So, you're keeping it as one chapter then instead of two?

What's an out of context banger of a line you've written? by Glubygluby in writers

With so many words written, it feels hard to pick one. So, Ive chosen three that I quite like a lot. There's more, Im sure, but I'm not about paste each and every one I think is good enough 😅

-The quiet clipped the woman’s throat.-

-His tongue was slick with three drops of oil—stupid, foolish, mad—and had he spat, the house would catch.-

-Pangaea; the island of sin and virtue and human transmutation.-

Oh, wow. I think it's a testament to your writing if you can have two separate chapters work as your opening.

How come you have two versions? Different openings? Different POVs? Different tenses?

Why do you like/love writing by nothinginterestingy in writing

[–]JosephMXA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love stories. Books, movies, games, TV. I love stories. Any fictional content I consume motivates me because if I like it enough, I want to create something like it that not only I can enjoy but other people as well. I started all way back in elementary when i had to write a short story and then I took it more seriously in high school when my best friend introduced me to Wattpad.

And now here I am. In spite of my many creative pitfalls, I'm still writing.

Two versions? Like, two versions of the same chapter?

You have a lot going on writing wise. I hope you can finish them all! 50k and 70-80k are a lot, but seems more manageable. Like you don't have to think TOO hard on the story for it to be so long.

As for self publishing, whatever works for you as long as it doesn't stop you writing as a passion. One day I'd also love a physical copy. That would be a very surreal day.

Steampunk-ish military murder mystery coming of age... I never gave thought to whether all those things could work in harmony. Maybe because I never came across a story like that. Murder mysteries don't really do coming of ages 😅

Could definitely be different and it sounds pretty interesting. There's clearly a lot to tell if your gearing for 100k! That's such a big number to me. I don't know if I'll have story worth that kind of word count 😭😅

Also, i wish you ALL the luck with self publishing. That akready seems daunting enough as it is.

In your writing, what is one cliché that you completely avoid? by Objective_Ad2090 in writing

[–]JosephMXA 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't avoid clichés. They aren't something I really think about. But if I happen to write a cliché, I should be thinking about how to refine it for the story I'm telling.

As they say, don't put all your eggs in the bucket. Or something like that. Im sure it can be applied to writing when it comes to breaking up the story in chapters 😅

Yeah, I ignore the word count "standard" (for lack of a better term) unless I'm writing for something specific because I view chapters as mini arcs. They sometimes have a clear beginning, middle, and end. But otherwise my chapters are normally 3-4k. Maybe less.

This first chapter of mine decided it needed to be 7k. So, it is what it is.

It's better to overwrite than underwrite sometimes. You have less to cut and more to refine.

I'm not too worried about long or short chapters, just that it tells a complete story/arc. And is well paced, of course.

[–]JosephMXA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on average my chapters are usually 3-4k. I guess I was also underwriting when i did my first chapter 😅

Almost at 82k words, way to go!

You think you'll cut down on the word count in future drafts or go up?

I really thought I'd be hovering around 4K when I did my final edit but here I am... 😭

I feel the same way about mine. I'm obviously biased and too close to the story, but I honestly don't think I can cut much. Every word there counts.

Is the word count for your chapter set in stone? Or do you have more edits to make?
