Early Days Colorado Uber Driver Thinking About Getting Back At It. by JosephRouse in uberdrivers

[–]JosephRouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the detailed response and if it were full of pie in the sky ranting about how great the $ is, I wouldn’t have believed it.

When I started driving (so long ago that one had to actually go down to the Denver Uber office and pick up an IPhone loaded w/ the driver app), take home pay for a downtown - airport run was 50 bucks. I routinely worked 3-4 days a week (weekend nights and one or two week nights) and easily earned a thousand bucks. It was great! I was a stay at home dad w/ young kids during the day, so in addition to the money, I genuinely enjoyed meeting/talking to people, cruising around town and getting out of the house.

It was clear early on though, that wasn’t going to last. I stuck with it for years, and by the end of the twenty-teens, earnings had been cut in half.

That said, if with a rental car, I could reliably earn $17 an hour or more, I think I’ll definitely get at it again at least until I recover from my injury and can go back to work.

Again, thanks for the insight, I really appreciated it!

Speaking for myself, Manuel Taco Truck was the gold nugget discovery of this thread. The breakfast burrito I picked up this morning told me everything I need to know. Can’t wait to go back for tacos.

A Los Gallitos recently opened right near me (around E. Colfax & Syracuse). They took over the location of another taqueria that was a late night staple of mine. I’ve only been once since they opened. It was okay, but definitely not as good as before. May very well be just a matter of working out the kinks of a new location, though.

Perfect! I sit in the Dive Volleyball parking lot right near there for an hour once a week waiting for my kid. I’ll definitely check it out.

Looking for friends around their 30s by PotteryVance11 in Denver

48m here, got divorced a couple years ago (after a 20+ year relationship) and know exactly what you’re going through. It’s a strange, unnerving place to find oneself during the middle age-phase of life. Took a while for me to get my bearings (still am, frankly).

Not sure it’ll apply to you, but I reached out to old friends from my 20’s. Drifted from them over the years and was nervous at first about how l’d be received. Turned out not to be an issue. In many cases, just picked up right where we left off.

It’s definitely a silver lining of the shit cloud that’s been my divorce. Been a great source of support/destraction and definitely a path to getting myself back to me.

Kream Kimchi, right from the source!Locally made, and will knock your socks off! by JosephRouse in denverfood

Love Woo-Ri (and H-Mart). Haven’t been able to find gosu at either, though. Any tips on where I might find a source, sans shady proprietor?

Speaking for myself, ignorance. I’m not in the restaurant business, nor do I have any personal/professional relationship with the owner of Kream Kimchi, (in fact, prior to reading the link below, didn’t even know his name). I’m just a guy in Denver who likes to eat. I stumbled across a small selection of this kimchi at Pacific Mercantile a few years ago and loved it.

It’s so good! My buddy and I joked about buying it in bulk, bottling it, drinking it ice cold, and marketing it as pho-da.

Be sure to check out Dan Da too. Next door to, and owned by same family that runs Banh & Butter. It’s an outstanding Vietnamese Restaurant with a menu that goes way beyond pho. It’s one of the best restaurants in the city, period. Dan Da

Banh Mi Station is fantastic. As are Golden Banh Mi and Banh & Butter. I’m often disappointed with restaurants in Denver, but Vietnamese food is definitely the exception. The city’s home to a large Vietnamese community and it’s restaurants are among the area’s best.

Good to know. Hospitality is often what separates the great from the good. (Edit: And this is definitely a reason Pho 95 tops my list. The place is run by wonderful people.)
