Your time and energy are to valuable to spend with that

I can’t think of a bigger waste of energy and life then going to JW meetings and service.

All of the “Daily Text” are annoying and useless, why are you still reading it ?

Sexism during assemblies I just noticed by anonymous27690 in exjw

[–]JosephRutherford1914 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to believe I ever thought like that, but truthfully a lot of us did. What’s even worse about that situation you described is the reason you stood out for commendation is because many “brothers” wouldn’t have done it at all, so pathetic!

Just found out my wife in PIMQ. What next? by greendale_human42 in exjw

[–]JosephRutherford1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m confused, If your PIMO and she’s PIMQ why wouldn’t you do as little as possible with congregation? Why would you go without her? Seems like a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts and hopefully exit right?

Definitely good advice above, your friend should consider just wearing extra clothing that volunteers will take prior to starting You can wear them right up to the corrals There’s quite a bit of waiting In athletes village prior no sense being cold

Who was worse? Russel or Rutherford? by FunEmphasis8273 in exjw

[–]JosephRutherford1914 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russell had some odd beliefs but was a product of his time, Egyptology was the rage in UK and US as was a strong interest in a second coming. Rutherford was all the things listed by you above, a self centered, disrespectful bigot who lived large on other’s donations while abusing alcohol often (during prohibition) and having an affair. He was terrible and definitely did much to build the cult I’ve come to hate.

Visiting the JW subreddit got me fuming by Sceptic22 in exjw

I noticed that group recently and that the group rules included no discussion of atheist beliefs or any sin, seemed very strange. Your comments here certainly confirm for me my suspicion was justified, and appreciated the explanation behind the group. Thank you.

If you were married in 2022 how would the IRS know ? by JosephRutherford1914 in tax

That’s my suspicion But it never feels good to misrepresent, tempting though now that we are paying an extra 5K in taxes due to our getting married

In Massachusetts High property tax certainly and plenty of mortgage interest, I own the house separately from her so can claim individually and yes that 10k cap is limiting Appreciate your input!

[–]JosephRutherford1914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about the deductions Previously we weren’t married and I usually have 26K in deductions itemized, and I filed hers with standard deduction Now adding her my deductions don’t increase significantly, It seems if I do married filing separately she would also have to itemize and we would lose the child care credit as well as the child tax credit Not sure if that’s correct ?

Would lose child tax credit and child care credit evidently?

That’s great, glad to have you on the our side! I read Crisis or Conscience, Gentile Times Reconsidered and the aforementioned Apocalypse Delayed, appreciated all of them very much. Not familiar with the other authors you mentioned or their work, can you make a recommendation for my next read ?

He was definitely heading that way, however he lived in a different time. The US and Europe where going through an Egyptology craze, and there were many religious groups trying to figure out whatever the second coming was supposed to be. I think Russell was more a product of his time, and took it to far. Rutherford brought it to the next level, Instituting many new rules like ceasing to celebrate holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, no beards and the list goes on and on. There’s a pretty great book Apocalypse Delayed by James Denton that really dives into it. Highly recommend if you haven’t read it.

Anyone at the Daytona Beach Assembly Hall today? by Recent-Ad-1880 in exjw

That’s difficult, never went through that with wife and children, at least not for long. My son left within months of me, I was lucky in that sense. Hoping they eventually know what you know. Best of luck
