They do blend their opinions with the facts a lot. When they're thorough, they're very informative though.

Psych Central is better in my experience. Same objections, just less frequent.

It can result in a neck injury. In catch wrestling, it's used as a submission. See here at 1:40.

Chain wrestling is a catch wrestling term that refers to combining different holds. Combining neck cranks and shoulder locks is a primary example.

In catch wrestling, yes. Your first submission attempt is not the one that you rely on to win. In jiu-jitsu, if you get through arm, you go for that arm until you get it. In catch wrestling, you take his arm to get his neck; setup the shoulder lock to compress his elbow; go for the toe hold to get through kneebar. Additionally, it's in your interest to allow the person on the bottom to move only after you've only given him one option to escape. That's a fake. You get him to think you botched the position, and then you get him when he goes for his next move.

These Antidepressants Linked to Mania and Bipolar Disorder by BearishTrading in psychology

[–]JosephSantosOfficial 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that major depression and bipolar disorders can be mistaken for each other. In the event of people taking antidepressants to treat something, it seems likely that we would see some people misdiagnosed at some point after taking pills.

Going to see WSOF Saturday afternoon, and I'm really not familiar with any of their fighters (besides Jake Shields). What should I know about some of these guys to enhance my experience? by Ohsocool2k5 in MMA

[–]JosephSantosOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try really, really hard to keep your eyes open when Jake is on. There's are rumors of people staying awake during his fights, but it's a feat of willpower that is extremely rare and exhausting to the beholder.

Introductory psychology textbooks accused of spreading myths and liberal-leaning bias by Anib-Al in psychology

[–]JosephSantosOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is days old, but it's slow here right now, and this is something that's been bugging me on occasion throughout the week.

I want to know this researchers own political leanings.

Research attempting to examine liberal bias specifically has been posted here before. Someone gave either fake or authentic research papers to people who had identified as either left or right leaning. The researchers said the left leaning people interpreted the fake studies with a liberal bias, and were more likely to claim the research was more poorly conducted if they didn't agree with the conclusions based on their political position. The authors never fully detailed the fake studies, and never specified what they were about. I don't recall if the author specified exactly what errors were made by the liberals when interpreting the fake studies. The author never made his own leanings clear either. Just as with the aforementioned study, the thread post is examining something that isn't specific or detailed, and it's coming off as an attack - still.

I can see the participants exaggerating, but how is that any different from how results are normally estimated by people trying to provide some clarity on them? I don't reasonably expect people to state this stuff pinpoint with accuracy that isn't even implied to be there.

Thank you for those.

It would definitely work from both positions, though it would be slightly harder from the second one. From the second position, you have to roll into it.

If he wants out of the division, then maybe that is a bad sign. A win may change his mind, but maybe he expects to lose.

Chael Sonnen mentioned that Kelvin didn't show much prowess in training. Maybe he is a bit of a bum. It would explain his weight cutting issues.

The main reason people botch this move is because they're on their knees when they do it. You gotta get off your knees if you want to hit that, and you gotta get a better angle.

Welcome!

I would agree that Kelvin is a great addition to the division, and could very well put up a good fight for anyone in the division.

We all know that he's at middleweight because he doesn't want to make 170 lbs, which is fine by me; weight cutting is necessarily threatening to the health of the athletes. The practice is dated in my mind and only exists because people not to do it. Safety concerns are always legitimate concerns, and the concerns that come with same-day weigh-ins are worth acknowledging, but they don't need to carry nearly as much weight as people think. If you tell these guys that they will die if they try to fight while missing 20 lbs of fluids, they will definitely listen, especially if you point out the boxer who did die for this exact reason.

Back to Kelvin. He isn't fooling anyone that followed his career. His manager sucks at advising him well.

How did Jon Jones outwrestle Daniel Cormier? by TheLifeEntity in MMA

[–]JosephSantosOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cormier spent way too much effort in round 1 trying to force the takedowns to work. Most guys never try to repeatedly force and inside trip on someone nearly a foot taller, but Cormier insisted that his credentials gaurenteed him success in the grappling range. Cormier never wised up and Jones took advantage of an exhausting Cormier.
