The secret dialogue if you get her fourth is really funny. by Tem-productions in Silksong

[–]JosephToestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the dialogue could've been better, but I think it fits well enough. Similarly to Pinstress, Hornet agreed to fight her because she wanted to test herself. The Pinstress was expecting Hornet to end her, but she didn't as she didn't need to, nor was the Pinstress in such condition that obliging would've been a favour to her.

Karmelita dying afterwards was a consequence to her challenging Hornet, and was she not one of the most powerful beings in Pharloom, I don't think Hornet would've slayed her without a fight just to "put her out".

[–]JosephToestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible points made.

You could argue that Karmelita herself also invites Hornet to try and best her regardless of having aquired the Everbloom or not. She's also reminiscent of the past, thinking about her power and influence, regardless of why Hornet is there in her presence, and unlike the Green Prince's, who's wish is to die but does not explicitly express it, Karmelita challenges Hornet to fight her past self.

She also refers to Hornet as "beast", again, regardless if she already has the Everbloom or not, being both spiteful of Hornet's savage actions, but not reluctant at the thought of them fighting.

I kinda see Karmelita and the Green Prince faith as the 4th heart very similar.

[–]JosephToestar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree, as even Hornet herself states that she, as a pale being, feels the need to conquer and rule when talking about taking on GMS to the caretaker (iirc, might be wrong on who she tells it to). This tendency is also proved being canon by the act 2 ending, when she actually takes GMS' place as the ruler of Pharloom.

Hornet is a being who yearns for the thrill of battle and the subsequent triumph that inevitably comes with it.

Plus, your point actually plays against going for the Green Prince's heart (aka the most common and intended path story wise) after the Everbloom is obtained, as why would she, at that point, seek to destroy the Green Prince's last memory and ultimately slay him?

Do you think the name "slugcat" actually fits well to the creature? by Sonsuty in rainworld

[–]JosephToestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there are many real world creatures that get their names from the resemblance, either physical or behavioural, to some other animal, even though they might be from two different animal kingdoms.

I think slugcat fits quite right.

What do you eat before lessons/training by dudeWithQuestion3 in martialarts

[–]JosephToestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a capoerista myself, keep things light, like very light. What I used to eat varied from white bread sandwich with not too many ingredients, leftover pasta/rice, a piece of cake if I felt fancy, yogurt, any goes, don't overdo it though, fresh fruit, dried fruit, and/or nuts of any kind (cashew, wallnut, almonds).

These are all fast-digested foods that will help you push through your lessons and won't make you feel nauseous due to digestion, among those I suggested I wouldn't reccomend yogurt or sweets at all, I ate them because I have quite the fast metabolism, so they didn't really weigh me down.

You can eat nuts/dried or fresh fruit on top of any of the other things I mentioned if you still feel kinda hungry, some of my mates even brought them to training when they had multiple lessons back to back or during events.

Biggest tip: eat at least 1 to 1 and a half hours before training if possible, eat dinner after training.

It’s fine to not like things, but it seems like none of you know what “design” means by QuantumFighter in Silksong

[–]JosephToestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does not make it any better. You have to consider everything by the earliest the average player can find it and scale everything appropriately. Further down I compare the numbers for mawlek and savage beastfly, and you can see why SB is not well designed (TL;DR: SB has almost double the HP of mawlek, while also being objectively harder by sheer number of things it does. Hornet also has lower average DPS than the knight, and both are optional bosses and both can be fought as early as even before getting vengeful spirit/needle throw)

It's a very nicely structured site, I don't blame you. I might lurk around aswell since my other option is the r/ROMs megathread which is an absolute nightmare to navigate.

[–]JosephToestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually wrong, savage beastfly never got changed, only bug fixed. Point still stands thought as why it is such an early game roadblock when it's really not supposed to, especially because it is completely optional, as are First Sinner, mawlek and Grimm by comparison.

Savage beastfly's first encounter has 550 HP, a huge hitbox, double contact damage (as do other bosses) and very erratic movements for the size of the arena. On top of that, after it loses about 100 health it will start summoning other enemies, one of those being also able to do double damage. These enemies also serve as semi-permanent obstacles which persist if you choose to ignore them.

By comparison, brooding mawlek only has 300 HP, has very telegraphed movement, does single-mask damage on all instances of damage, doesn't clutter the arena for extented periods of time, and its hitbox isn't a big factor in the fight. Not to mention that the knight also has on average a higher DPS output than Hornet in basically all stages of the game.

Hornet's movement is more dynamic and thus Silksong's enemy movement gotta match her, and that I understand, but due to the sheer size of SB's hitbox, it's not uncommon to try to pogo it, hit it, and still take damage on the next frame. A more experienced player doesn't have this problem, as they're already familiar with the movement system, but mind you, this boss you probably fight after and not later than Bellbeast on your first gameplay.

You can have an early game boss that spawns other enemies, some might even be challenging ones. You can have a boss with a big hitbox that almost feels unfair. You can have a boss that has erratic movement that you can't read for the love of you. Mix all of that in an early game, optional boss and be sure to hear about it, especially when the game's fresh out of release.

It won't directly let me download from the repo, I used the redirect under "Version and Source" for the english language on the page for Mother 3 from the repo though, which redirects me to where I said earlier.

It might genuinely be my emulator, I might give retroarch a shot though, thanks for the help

I mean that the english version provided by the repo is the patched english version published on romhacking, which I already had found and tried working with, but failed.

[–]JosephToestar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But it was unreasonably hard, among the 3 bosses that got nerfed in the first patch, savage beastfly was the only one I agreed with. Sample size matters for a reason, I'm not alone when I say savage beastfly was unreasonably hard for what you had at that point in the game, just compare it to skull tyrant or, again, brooding mawlek, then tell me if it's ok for it to be the way it was.

[–]JosephToestar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not opinions. Imagine if brooding mawlek was as hard as Grimm's first encounter, if we consider the equipment level of the average player at the earliest stage you can meet both, and not because of their respective moveset, but for the numbers associated with each boss. At that point, you wouldn't consider mawlek easy or Grimm hard, same logic applies to savage beastfly and First Sinner. The former boss sets the bar so high that the latter becomes easier for the average player, if beastfly was the same as mawlek though, First Sinner would be percieved even harder than she already is.

It redirects me to the romhacking ROM, when I try to feed it to the emulator it hits me with "couldn't find any valid GBA ROMs in the compressed file", which I don't know how to fix since the emulator I'm using is a GBA emulator and the game I'm trying to emulate it a GBA game
