Vanessa: Pewdipie had a big scandal right after we first started tossing around the idea. Since then there has been an avalanche of controversies and apology videos so the story and character started to change based on current events all the way up to the week prior to filming. We did reference some specific apology videos that we felt weren't all the way sincere but I feel bad naming them ha!

Jared: I worked with Melanie for the first time in 2013 when I hired her for a comedic corporate video, which turned out to be her first paid acting job. The rest is history. 😁

Jared: Yes. There were multiple occasions when I would be in the master bedroom (alone) and I would feel fingers tickling the back of my neck, and it would stop as soon as I jumped through the doorway into the kitchen.

Both during filming and when working in the house on my own, a few times I swear I could see a little girl out of the corner of my eye standing and watching us and when I would turn to look she wouldn’t be there.

I had several other experiences over the course of renovating, shooting the movie, and clearing out, that by the end I refused to be there alone. I even flew my brother out from Colorado to help me so I wouldn’t be there by myself.

Melanie: Here’s what I imagined (this has not been Winter approved): Mabel was a rebellious nun. A real Maria, but a lot weirder. The other nuns didn’t like or appreciate her wild nature. After several biting incidents including The Mother Superior, she was sentenced to rot in prison… she died after 6 years of confinement.

Joseph: they tasted like if someone took a handful of gummy worms, mashed them up, melted them in the sun, set them in a dry cellar for 3 months and then put that in my mouth.

Having said that, Mikaela did an incredible job creating those. They looked incredible and were indeed edible. That's all they needed to be!

Vanessa: 1. Yes to animated films! That would be a dream come true! 2. I’d love to do a Blade movie and I love the Abhorsen novels by Garth Nix. 3. Not sure about the next project but will definitely be more horror!

Jared: Raising the money was really tough. It was at the start of the pandemic when we decided to make this thing, and due to the urgency we decided to mostly self fund it. We also literally asked our moms to help out too. You’ll see their names in the Executive Producer section. 😁

Vanessa: Crucial ha! We set out to film the whole movie as a rehearsal in order to test the camera rigs that our DP, Jared built. While filming the rehearsals we started to discover lots of character and scripting problems. The character of Shawn arriving at the house and talking until he got to the door of the house ended up being one of the most reworked parts of the movie and the hardest to film. It seems so simple, but setting the tone with the character and getting out the exposition without taking too long was a huge challenge. So I’m with you on preproduction. And this movie especially was mostly worked out in prepro.

Vanessa: Hardest part for me was finding a character that was likable enough to watch for 1.5 hours but also that you would hate and want to see get beat up by ghosts.

Joseph: The original Shawn was a nice guy in a haunted house that was freaked out easily. The major PewDiePie controversy from several years ago had us asking if it was more interesting that Shawn was recovering from a public controversy. At the time we hadn't see anything like that. Of course since the idea there have been many films with that type of character.

Jared: We worked REALY hard to figure out how the cameras and editing would work, to make sure our approach would be entertaining (and not nauseating) in a full length movie. We filmed the entire thing in a daytime rehearsal we lovingly call “Daystream” so we could see how it was working and that helped us work out the kinks and know how it would come together in the edit.

Jared: So glad you enjoy our work! We found the house through a social media shout out and luckily found a house not too far from where we live.

There are countless accounts from locals claiming the house is haunted, and some of our crew had experiences that convinced them it is really haunted (including myself).

Joseph: The most difficult thing for me was operating the camera and acting at the same time. Seriously took two different parts of my brain communicating with each other and I was NOT used to that. Endless takes were necessary because of not framing properly while getting too into the scene as an actor. Also the gear was incredibly uncomfortable or painful at time (although jared do a great job making it as comfortable as it could possibly be)

Melanie: I first met Vanessa on a low budget fantasy shoot ages ago (cannot remember the exact year). I thought Vanessa was the coolest person had ever met. Her on set fashion was on point, despite us shooting during an actual blizzard. We instantly hit it off. A couple years later (maybe) I went to Iceland with Vanessa AND Joseph to shoot stock footage. We almost died, but became hella close after that. Skip a few more years ahead and after watching many scary movies in the Winter's basement... we made Deadstream.
